  1. Since the Michael Vick and Alex Smith dominos have fallen, I thought I'd give a prediction of who falls where in the draft. I really see Geno Smith being there for the Bills at #8. I think that there are talent starved teams ahead of us that will want to use this draft to rebuild their team's foundation before they go asking a rookie QB to produce for them. I threw in a surprise team who might bite if someone fell to them... Bills - Geno Smith (T, Jackson as mentor? Russ B. saying "we haven't been relevant" a foreshadowing of a big splash?) Texans - Matt Barkley (Shaub officially put on notice) Eagles - EJ Manuel (Chip recruited him heavily) Cardinals - Tyler Wilson or Tyler Bray (Arians needs a QB prospect after building OL at #7) QB needy teams who know they'll be bad this year and who'll be building their teams this draft, waiting till 2014 to pick their QB of the future - Jaguars Oakland Browns Jets
  2. Today's defensive players are much too fast for Barkley's slow wheels and weak arm to deal with. You've got to have a great arm or athleticism or both to be any QB of note in the NFL. Barkley has neither and will eventually take his rightful place, following in the footsteps of all former star USC QBs...a clipboard holder. I'm not here to say the 2014 QB class is a lock, just that this year has a very uncanny resemblance to the 2011 draft class of nobodies who were way overdrafted (with the exception of Cam Newton who was the only one I liked). Drafting Barkley would not only doom this franchise for another 3 years, there will probably be a great player we would have passed on in getting him...Jordan, Ansah, Patterson, Warmack
  3. It's actually a MUCH better plan than drafting either Barkley at #8 or Nassib at #41, then after going with one of them for three years, finding out that they indeed never were franchise QBs to begin with just like everyone without the "Star USC QB" or "Star Syracuse QB"" blinders on were saying. The Bills really should think about trading back (if such a deal were offered) and taking a team's 2014 first round pick in the deal. The reason being is that next year's class has about four or five real NFL franchise QB talent and having two first round picks would be great ammo for a 2014 trade up scenario. 2014 QBs...Bridgwater, Johnny Football, Boyd, Thomas, and maybe even McCarron.
  4. I think the Matt Barkley people have convinced themselves that he can somehow become a franchise QB without a actually having a real "NFL Franchise QB" strong arm. That's like searching for a unicorn. Now, if your definition of an NFL Franchise QB includes the name Andy Dalton, then you would of course include his "talent twin" Matt Barkley. But there in lies the problem right there. Andy Dalton is and will forever be an average NFL QB. It's sad to see how many Bills fans will now settle for the Andy Dalton model of "he's not really a franchise QB but we'll pretend anyways." The only guys in this draft who have real NFL Franchise QB arms are Smith, Manuel, Bray, and Glennon.
  5. I keep seeing support for the Bills drafting Matt Barkley at #8. Sorry, but I just don't see it... 1. Geno Smith is both an athletically gifted and strong armed QB who is genuinely worthy of a 1st round grade because of this duel threat. Matt Barkley is neither athletically gifted nor does he have a strong arm to garner such a consideration. Barkley seems more mentally mature of the two, but you actually have to have the physical traits of a franchise QB to be considered a top 10 drafted QB who will in fact be expected to become a franchise QB. Smith is such a player, Barkley is not. 2. I see very little difference between what both Matt Barkley and Ryan Nassib bring to the table. If anything, I see Ryan Nassib as having a higher upside because he isn't the finished product that Matt Barkley is. Barkley is as good as he's going to get. He just spent four years starting at a top college program. What you see is what you get and there is no more higher ceiling to what he is right now. Now I'm not a Nassib fan and I don't want the Bills to draft either him or Barkley, but the simple question remains...Why would the Bills draft Matt Barkley (coming of a shoulder injury no less) when they could draft Ryan Nassib with the second round pick? I still hope the Bill get either Jordan, Patterson or Ansah at #8 and EJ Manuel in the second. I think EJ Manuel's the entire franchise QB package (who may need a year or two of development) but who will have a Steve McNair type of franchise QB career. I just don't trust Geno Smith's leadership qualities, however I'll certainly get on board and support the selection if he's the pick.
  6. For the final time...THERE IS NO REDOING MALLETT'S CONTRACT AND THE BILLS ARE NOT TRADING FOR THEIR "QB OF THE FUTURE" WITH ONE YEAR REMAINING ON HIS CONTRACT... http://bostonherald....de_talk_for_now This thread REALLY needs to end so we can discuss real possibilities at the QB position.
  7. I don't want Mallett, but for those who do...there's no chance the Bills would do it because of this stipulation... http://bostonherald.com/sports/patriots_nfl/the_blitz/2013/02/hold_off_on_the_ryan_mallett_trade_talk_for_now "Under the new CBA, all players drafted in 2011 or later cannot restructure their contract until they complete their third season. Therefore, any team that acquires Mallett can't sign him to an extension until next year. That could take away from some of his value." The Bills are simply not trading for their "QB of the future" with one year left on his contract and no way to extend it...LOL
  8. Matt Barkley is backup material in the NFL. He's just another in a long line of "clean cut" all-american looking college QBs who looks the part but will fall flat on his face once he gets there because he's too short, slow and athletic. There's no way the Bills are interested in drafting him. The Bills will not pick any QB (including Geno) with the first pick because there aren't any worthy enough. Picking a QB at #8 is a big deal. I don't see a new regime hitching their wagons for three years to a QB with question marks which all of these guys have. The Bills will start thinking QB with the second pick. However if there's a great player there at another position like tight end, they may wait till the third. I think the Bills are a team that has one eye on this QB class and one eye on the 2014 QB class.
  9. Bray is dumber than a box of rocks. Go check out his combine interview and you'll see what I mean. Wilson and Manuel have the "it" factor of talent combined with real leadership qualities that make them the only two QBs I see with the possibilities of becoming future top ten NFL QBs. All the other QBs are severely lacking in one of these very important components that make great NFL QBs. If one of these two are there at the second pick the Bills would be stupid to pass on him. Saying all that, I'd pick Patterson at #8, then either Wilson or Manuel in the 2nd and if neither are there I'd take the TE from Rice, then roll with Travaris Jackson for 2013 with an eye on the 2014 class of QBs. Who knows, with all those weapons Jackson even could take this team to the playoffs.
  10. I see that you have Barkley for the Bills at #8. If that's correct, then I think there's a ridiculously higher risk in the Bills doing what you suggest there. Patterson is a player on the ascent. He made the jump from JUCO to the semi-pro SEC and made those players look silly. The only check mark that he doesn't hit is that "need more than one year" thing. That would be a concern if he had NOT just proven himself in the SEC. Barkley is a slow, unathletic QB with a busted up arm, who's play was on the descent and who comes from a college with a laundry list of QB busts. Barkley is a throwback QB from another time period. Guys like him are bench QBs meant to come in for a couple of games when the real NFL starting QB gets hurt. Patterson at #8 is a two-handed slam dunk pick compared to picking Barkley at #8 expecting him to be your franchise QB.
  11. Geno and Donovan are like twins with their physical gifts for the QB position. The weird thing is that I get the same "the whole world is against me" vibe from Geno that Donovan has always had. If this is true and it's official the Chiefs don't want Geno Smith, then that's a huge red flag considering Andy Reed is a QB guru and he'd rather have the pedestrian Alex Smith. Also remember, the money allotment for #1 QB is no longer as substantial.
  12. Chiefs makes sense... http://www.nfl.com/n...ty-chiefs-radar This does not bode well for those who like Geno Smith. If you're a McNabb clone and Andy Reed would rather have Alex Smith than you...um, that's not good. I'm seriously beginning to think Geno Smith has personality issues.
  13. ...of men. I checked out all of the QB press conferences and I'm beyond impressed with how both Manuel and Wilson come across. They aren't fake or coached up. They are both seem very mature beyond their years. The difference between these two guys and the other QBs with regards to their maturity levels and leadership qualities is a substantially large gap after watching all of the videos. As for Nassib, he seems like a very likable and personable guy who will put in the work and do his very best. But I don't necessarily see that natural leader type, nor do I see a guy who actually believes that he's the best of this group. One note, Wilson had a very interesting smile on his face when talking about his meeting with the Bills. You can check out all of the videos them here... http://www.kcchiefs.com/media-center/videos/EJ-Manuel-Combine-Press-Conference/6ca249da-b855-4cc0-ae81-0c999a80dd5e#/media-center/videos/EJ_Manuel_Combine_Press_Conference/6ca249da-b855-4cc0-ae81-0c999a80dd5e Can't wait to see them all tomorrow at the combine.
  14. EJ Manuel was dealing with finding out in September that his Mom had breast cancer. None of these other guys had to deal with something like that, and the kid still put up very good numbers. That says a lot about how he will handle the pressure of the NFL.
  15. I'm not against picking a defensive player at #8. But having the Jets former DC run things should dramatically improve the run defense on the Bills. I certainly don't want an ILB at #8 if that's what your plan would be with that pick. I'd be good with Jordan or Ansah at #8. With that all being said, this league is now highly tilted towards offensive players. That's an undeniable fact. Defenses are being rendered toothless with these new rules. That's why having a guy with the special "make you miss" talents of Patterson would be so valuable in today's game. But like I said, I'm open to them taking a defensive player if he were a special player with huge upside of creating havoc on offenses.
  16. The Bills obviously will be getting a QB with their 2nd or 3rd rd pick this year and even possibly a 1st rd pick next year if this year's rookie isn't cutting it. Unless Geno Smith is there at #8, the Bills should take Patterson or an impactful defensive player like Dion Jordan. You shouldn't force the draft, especially with the highly suspect QBs in this class. I'm perfectly ok with them rolling the dice on a QB in the 2nd.
  17. It would matter if he was in school for four years and did nothing till his last year there. It's not like there were no other receivers on that team, he was low man on the totem pole. You can not teach what that guy's got. Not only that, you can tell he knows he's a future star. You can have college production, I'm picking Patterson over any WR in the draft.
  18. His stats don't matter. He was a receiver who wasn't featured because he was coming out of JUCO. You must look at what he did with his opportunities and translate that to the NFL game. There's no doubt this kid is ridiculously gifted and he knows it. He will have no problem adapting to the NFL. There's no comparison to Allen when it comes to who has the better NFL talent.
  19. You do realize you're being sarcastic as a basis to support your argument? I don't think I've ever seen that before. Adding Patterson would literally be adding another dimension to the Bills offense. The Bills adding a "shiny new toy" a few years back gave them one of the best players in the entire league right now. I would love to have the next "greatest show on earth" offense and the only thing left finding be the QB to run the darn thing.
  20. Patterson doesn't drop past Miami. There's a good chance the Jets would take him. Think they don't need a playmaker? Last night, former Jets GM had them taking him right after the Bills pick. Don't be surprised if the Jets jumped ahead of the Bills and switched picks with the Cards to make sure they get him. That is if they do like him of course. This would not be a reach pick and actually probably hits Patterson's true draft value which starts right around our pick. The great thing is that it would also fit a major Bills need. Would I hope Dion Jordan is there instead, yes! But I'd be very excited if we drafted Patterson at #8.
  21. IMO this guy is the odds on favorite to being the Bills' pick at #8. Dion Jordan is my second odds on favorite, but unfortunately there's probably a good chance he won't be there when the Bills pick. As for Patterson, I think the combo of him and Johnson would be very dynamic. We'd certainly have the most "Swag" WR combo in the league. They could become Swag 1 and Swag 2. I don't buy into in the "one year wonder" stuff. Fans always go back to the Maybin pick and not only is Maybin an exception, he never had the size or body to play his NFL position. THAT was where the Bills went wrong. If you watch Patterson's highlight video and don't come away with the opinion that you're watching a future NFL WR star then there's no hope for you at evaluating NFL talent. Dude scorches on the screen and will do so at the next level. His moves are VERY Spiller like.
  22. See the New York Jets. I just hope the Bills trade ahead of Philly in the 2nd and draft EJ Manuel.
  23. You forgot Dion Jordan. He has freakish size, athleticism and versatility. I think he will be a nightmare to defend against in the NFL.
  24. When you hear a QB being touted because of "work ethic" and "intelligence", you just know it's code for a "successful white college QB with very little speed and athleticism"...LOL Nassib is NOT a franchise QB. He's one dimensional and NFL defenses eat that up like nobody's business. The Bills should ignore Mike "I have serious man-love for Blaine Gabbert" Mayock and draft a guy who has the size, speed, athleticism, AND leadership, AND work ethic, AND mental toughness for the job... ...google "Want to Turn Your NFL Franchise Around? Look No Further Than EJ Manuel" for the bleacher report article. It's a very good one which unfortunately can't be linked due to TSW rules here.
  25. We???? You should speak for yourself next time. Intelligent football fans know that Andy Dalton is an average QB who's already hit his ceiling. Even Bengal fans know this. I would like to think that most Bills fans here would not want Dalton as their "QB of the future". If any did, then they would be admitting that they are ok with accepting mediocre at the most important and critical position in the NFL. You can fool yourself with silly "he made pro bowl appearances" and stat comparisons all you want. Dalton is AVERAGE,. It's insulting to fans here that you even mention his name next to Eli, Ben and Russell. Four Superbowl wins and a prodigious QB talent. You're comparing Andy Dalton to that? Really? There was a time when Bills fans accepted nothing less than having one of the best at that position. I believe that they still feel this way. Now if the Bills FO thinks the way that you do, then we as fans are all in trouble since the next great winning era of the Buffalo Bills will no doubt be years and years away from becoming reality.
