  1. Wilson's big problem was his height. Scott's big problem is his one year to judge him on. However with Kaepernick and Wilson's unreal fast success and with Scott's striking similarities to these two guys…Matt Scott is the best QB prospect in this class. Yes, of course Scott is much rougher around the edges than was Wilson. He only started one year full time. But Scott's a gamer dude. He has everything Wilson had in terms of speed athleticism and arm. He also strikes me as a VERY strong competitor who hates to lose. IMO he will only need a year to smooth out his rough edges and I'm telling ay the guy will be a rock star QB for Buffalo just like Kaepernick and Wilson are for their teams. Patterson at #8 and Scott at #41 and lets roll... Want another opinion? Search Matt Scott's name in google news and read the article "2013 NFL Draft: Matt Scott Prospect Profile" at Niners Nation (can't be posted here). The guy writes for a Superbowl team which has Kaepernick and yet still wants them to draft Scott in round three. This was his "PROS" for Scott… Can run read option Strong Arm Goes through reads quickly Pinpoint throws Tough BTW, I'm very glad to see some traction happening for the Bills drafting Matt Scott.
  2. That wasn't the question. The question is, why after four years under Marrone isn't Nassib considered a solid 1st round/franchise QB pick? Why isn't he considered the franchise QB that McNabb was coming out of college? It's only logical that either Marrone got the best of Nassib's average talent, or Marrone sucks at coaching his QBs up. It's got nothing to do with peaking.
  3. Why isn't Ryan Nassib considered 1st round/franchise QB material after spending 4 years with our new head coach? Does Doug Marrone need two more years to make him into a franchise QB? That would make six years. It defies logic that Marrone thinks Nassib is franchise QB material. He's had him for four years and has coached him up to as good as he's ever going to get.
  4. I just threw up in my mouth at the thought.
  5. I just couldn't imagine the Bills passing on a prospect like Geno Smith. While I have my reservations about him, having a guy who threw that many TD passes fall into Buffalo's lap at #8 and passing on him would be kind of an outrageous move. If Smith fell to the Bills he'd probably have a very big chip on his shoulders. That would be a very good thing. Thurman Thomas had that draft day chip. Now if they pass on him and target Scott with their second pick because they like him better, well of course you know I'd be on board for that...LOL But that would be an extremely gutsy move. I like Scott (and Manuel) a lot, but I don't think I could even pass on Geno Smith if he were there. Let him spend the rest of his career proving all of those QB needy teams ahead of the Bills wrong.
  6. I'm sorry, but I just do not get the Barkley love by the Buffalo Bills fans here. Buffalo is a place where the wind whips around on a nice day let alone one in late October, November, December and January. Yes they do play one game in the dome in Toronto. But they also play on the road in New York and New England. Did anyone see his pro day? Even the upbeat QB lovin' NFL draft experts couldn't give him a seal of approval like they did with every other QB's pro day this year. This article best sums up Barkley's lackluster pro day... http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2013/03/27/matt-barkley-pro-day-usc/2026329/ "Some of the concern among scouts isn't about the injury, but arm strength even when healthy. Barkley was sharp on short routes, but had some wobbles on deeper throws, overthrowing some and leaving receivers to wait for others." I think that Bills fans are falling into the trap of wanting the "star" college QB and rationalizing as to why he would be a good fit for Buffalo. His long throws were bad. Defenses will know he throws bad long balls and sit on the short stuff. Barkley is a back up QB. I hope that Bills fans come to their senses and realize that the best QB prospects for our team would be Geno Smith, EJ Manuel or Matt Scott. These three dudes have it all. Are any locks to succeed? Of course not. But at least they have the required arm strength and athletic ability for the job of a starting QB which plays outdoors in western new york. There is no way the Bills want Matt Barkley. If they do, we are so screwed because it would mean they are being run by very stupid people.
  7. I understand that my opinion is an outlier here and mostly everywhere. I'll try to explain my thinking regarding Matt Scott. There was apparently a whole lot of NFL personnel at Arizona's pro day. From everything I've read about that day, there was a very real "buzz" going on with Matt Scott. Why is this? What's the reason? I think that the NFL is on the cusp of welcoming a new breed of QB and a new brand of football which will eventually dominate the game. Matt Scott fits the mold. He's got it all except the long record. He's fast, athletic, can sling the ball like nobody's business, he's very competitive, he rocked both Stanford's and USC's defenses, he showed a great comback in his bowl game. Yet, the draft echo chamber only talks about the same six or seven guys not named Scott. It's very weird to me. The drop back QBs are going to dwindle with each and every year, just watch. Matt Scott is the new breed and can probably be had with our 2nd rd pick. IMO NFL teams don't want to let another future rock star like Kaepernick or Wilson slide through their fingers. I truly believe that Scott is the guy NFL teams are tagging as this year's hidden rock star. That draft guy said round three is where he goes? Since that's out there I say he goes in round two. Is he raw? Yes, but who cares if it will take only a year before he's having success like Kaepernick or Wilson. As for the one year thing, his previous coach wanted to run a classic drop back offense which was obviously going to be Foles, so Scott decided to take a redshirt year and kicked butt in his one and done year with Rodriquez. He needs some smoothing out, but I have a feeling this guy is going to be very good. This is a strange year where everyone is all over the place on this QB class. It sucks that whichever QB the Bills do end up drafting, he will have a large group that wasn't in favor drafting him for the Bills QB of the future.
  8. I think that Matt Scott is the "stealth" QB in this draft. In that, he's regarded as a middle round project by the "experts" and draft blogs, when in reality he's probably one of the highest rated QBs in this draft class by the NFL team scouts. Since it's getting out that Scott's already being projected as a third round pick, that means the "stealth"ness is wearing off. That means NFL teams won't get him on the cheap and if one of the many teams want him they will have to spend a second round pick on him. Also, I thought this was very strange... UPDATE: Manuel worked out for the Eagles on Thursday and will work out for the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. I wonder what the great Andy Dalton thinks about that?...LOL
  9. I would sign on for that if the Bills were going to be a "ground and pound" style offense, but I think Marrone wants to go more "fast break/score a bunch of points" style of offense like the Saints with Drew Brees. In essence, the offensive line isn't as important in a fast break offense as highly skilled talent would be. That is why I lean more towards the "home run" pick of Patterson. If (and I know it's a big IF) the Bills hit big time with Patterson and Scott, they will be in the Superbowl hunt for a long time because the AFC is void of very many quality teams. Yes, the Ravens won the Superbowl, but look at them now. Brady and Manning are in their final years. I hope the Bills "hit for the fence" this draft in rounds 1 and 2.
  10. That Matt Scott write up looks like he very well could be the next coming of Drew Brees. Doug Marrone coached on the Saints team which had Brees and I'll bet that the Saints offense is the one he wants to model this Bills team after. He would love to have a QB that has Brees' skills and talents because he's seen it up close, knows how it works in the NFL and knows it can win you a Superbowl provided you hit on the QB. I'm really hoping the Bills draft Patterson in the 1st, and Scott in the 2nd. I don't mind having a 2nd rd QB being a bust, but if Scott is indeed a real franchise QB hiding in the weeds like Kaepernick and Wilson then the Bills have the makings of an truly awesome offense. I there's no way Scott lasts till our 3rd round pick. IMO he's being severely under rated by the experts.
  11. It seems like the LB position more than any other in the NFL has more stars that come from the middle to late rounds than in the first two. I have a feeling the Bills have some LBs targeting in the 3rd to 5th rounds that they feel have a great future in the system they want to run. I think the Bills should draft WR/TE or TE/WR in rounds 2 and 3, after drafting either Smith or Manuel in the 1st. You need to make his job as easy as possible in his rookie year. Then go defense the rest of the way.
  12. I'm about 99% sure the Bills will draft either Geno Smith or EJ Manuel at #8. Look what Marrone did with an average skilled player like Ryan Nassib. Can you imagine what he can do with real NFL skilled talent like Smith or Manuel? I feel bad that there seems to be a number of fans here who's enthusiasm has been tamped down with the criticisms of these two players. I'm very excited because it seems that they are both hard workers who love football and are very motivated to excel at the next level. You combine that with their skills and this coaching staff and you have the recipe for the Bills finally finding a real franchise QB again.
  13. I didn't say he's complete, but he's certainly not a "project" either. He's a guy that is worthy of a first round pick by all the draft sites I've seen and from what I've read. IMO projects are guys that need a lot of development and that will take at least two years to turn into a quality NFL starting QB if they ever do. EJ Manuel is more of a boom/bust guy, in that he has everything you want in a modern QB, however you just don't know if he has that "it" factor to take him to the top of the NFL. Everyone knew that RGIII and Luck had the "it" factor. But the QBs in this class are more the norm. With Spiller, Johnson, Graham, plus adding a quality WR like Hunter or Wheatley in the 2nd and McDonald the TE from Rice in the 3rd...Manuel would have a great opportunity to hit the ground running with a solid rookie year as the starter. He just needs to be coached out of some bad habits with his mechanics.
  14. LOL...that's total BS. EJ Manuel is smarter and much more of a leader type than Smith, and he's fits the mold of today's modern athletic and fast NFL QB while Barkley clearly does not. Where do people get this stuff? Manuel isn't a lock to be a great QB, but he's certainly not a "project" prospect. He ran a pro offense at FSU. The guy is huge and can outrun defenders with ease. Has a good arm with a lot of potential there. Just draft EJ Manuel in the first and Hunter or Wheatley in the second round and let's get this train a movin'.
  15. Doug Marrone coached Ryan Nassib his entire career, right? Why then isn't he a slam dunk franchise QB prospect by now with four years under Marrone? Does Marrone think that it will take another one or two years of his coaching for Nassib to become a franchise QB? Why would Marrone pick Nassib when he hasn't been able to make him a top slam dunk prospect by now? It stands to reason that Marrone got the best out of Nassib in that much time, maxed out his talent, and that he now wants to draft someone with a franchise QB ceiling like Smith, Manuel or Scott.
  16. I'm right there with ya! Right now, if I was running this draft I would pick Patterson at #8, Scott at #41 and the best TE left at #71, then defense the rest of the way. Matt Scott has it all...he's fast, athletic, has the size (although needs a few more LBs), has an amazing release, and maybe the best thing about him is his confidence and competitiveness. IMO he is the most competitive out of all of the QBs in this class. I truly believe that he is this year's Russell Wilson. I also truly believe that he does not make it out of the 2nd round. There were a ton of NFL personnel at Arizona's pro day and they were there to see Matt Scott. He is obviously being downplayed as a mid rounder here and in the NFL media and blogs, but I don't think that's the case with the NFL teams. I think he's going in the second round and he gets picked (rightly so) before Nassib.
  17. Make no mistake, the Bills will draft either Geno Smith or EJ Manuel at #8 in the first round. There's the slight chance they move ahead of the Cards for Geno Smith. All the evidence points to the Bills drafting their "franchise" QB THIS year. You don't do that by moving back in the round or waiting and hoping your guy is there in the second round. Will they take another QB like say Matt Scott or Tyler Wilson in the third to hedge their bets? I could see that happeing. As for Ryan Nassib, one question that his supporters can't really answer in a positive manner is why after four years under the coaching of Doug Marrone is Nassib not a slam dunk franchise QB prospect? If Nassib does have that high of a ceiling, why didn't Marrone bring it out of him by his fourth season? Why wasn't he looked at like a big time prospect like Luck and RGIII? It's a nagging question that hopefully only leads to Nassib isn't their guy and Marrone got the best of him and he will get the best out of Smith or Manuel who have much higher ceilings.
  18. I'm not comparing their college careers. I think Matt Scott's floor is a poor man's Russell Wilson or Drew Brees. Wilson was no "diamond in the rough" his issue was height and height alone. Scott is a true "diamond in the rough" type of player. The NFL has a lot of franchise/Superbowl winning QBs who came from all sorts of places. For instance, Kurt Warner was in the Arena Football League! I see Scott as a potential great QB on an unconventional path. His pre-Rodriquez Arizona coach much preferred the classic "drop back" style of Foles so Scott decided to redshirt that year. That was smart of him. Here's an article by a Chiefs fan/blogger that is well written and explains Scott's talented "gamer"appeal... http://chiefconcerns.com/matt-scott-kansas-citys-qb-of-the-future/ "I’m convinced this kid has somethin’. His game isn’t perfect but he finds ways to win. He’s tough…gritty. Both are qualities you look for in a QB. When things breakdown, he improvises. With Scott, the play is never over." Some of these other QBs seem to have had things come very easy to them in life. I kind of like the guy who was an underdog and had to scrap and claw and who showed a lot of heart going against top college programs like Stanford and USC and in the final minutes of that bowl game.
  19. Where did I say "bad" personality? There's nothing "good" or "bad" about it, just that he may not have the strongest of personalities for the very high pressure job of being drafted as a top 10 NFL QB. Cam Newton handled it, Vince Young did not. Both had questionable personalities for the high pressure job. I don't necessarily buy into it, but his personality is somewhat of a concern. There is not one Luck or RGIII in this draft. Every single one of the QBs in this class has questions and concerns that we as fans will have to deal with until the QB they pick starts playing for real. There's no need to get upset though. I actually like Geno Smith as a person and think he's a nice guy, but you have to have a thick skin and a certain amount of toughness to handle being a top 10 drafted QB, there's no way around it.
  20. When you are over 5 seconds you had better be tall, have a great arm, make quick decisions with the added ability to move well in the pocket. That's what takes Nassib, Barkley and Dysert off the board of QBs with franchise starter potential.
  21. Greg Cosell coming out and saying such things really helps the Bills chances of getting Smith at #8. Of course the Panthers laughed off the Newton concerns (as they should have) so it isn't any sure thing that Smith drops, but Newton did have the "off the charts" dual threat that made them very comfortable. Smith doesn't have that on his resume. So there's the real possibility out there he drops and he's there at #8. It gives me pause, but these experts have many misses when it comes to first round QBs. Cosell stating that Ryan Nassib is the #1 QB in this class totally takes me back to me laughing at Mike Mayock's evaluation of Blaine Gabbert. I actually hope the Jets end up drafting him as their QB of the future.
  22. I wouldn't bank on that. There are concerns out there about Geno Smith's personality, ability to handle pressure and lack of quick decision making. You add that to there being about 5 high quality QBs coming out next year that look like it will be 2012 all over again and there's the very real possibility of Geno Smith becoming a Bill at #8. I see no team trading ahead of the Bills for Smith so it all comes down to whether these teams ahead of us are comfortable enough to draft a QB that high with some question marks. I'm not really high on Smith, but I'd still be happy if we did end up getting him. However I'd be just as happy if we got Manuel or Scott. I have this gut feeling that Scott is this year's Russell Wilson. The guy is very competitive and he has all of the tools you want except for lack of experience and bulk. It will take him a little bit longer than Wilson, but he seems like he'll easily become at least a poor man's Russell Wilson or Drew Brees with the possibility of becoming just as good as them.
  23. I find that very hard to believe. Do you have a link to this 4.65 40 run by Dysert? He did say that he will run drills before the draft so we should have a definitive answer. As for the people comparing Dysert to Peyton Manning? Really?
  24. Nassib is on his way to becoming the official Blaine Gabbert of this draft since Greg Cosell did his best "Mike Mayock makes a foolish endorsement" impersonation. One thing this Geno Smith bashing does is bring the possibility of him being available for the Bills at #8. The teams ahead of them seem to want to find a reason to not draft him and wait till next year's draft for their QB of the future. It will take some guts for the Jags, Raiders, Eagles, Browns or Cardinals to draft Smith so high without any enthusiasm and positive "buzz" like there was for Luck and RGIII. Geno Smith may be there at #8 after all is said and done Bills fans.
  25. What cracked me up was this... "While not particularly elusive or fast, Dysert is more athletic than he looks" That screams of code words for slow white dude who looked athletic enough for the Mac conference but will get eaten alive in the NFL...LOL The guy didn't run a 40 yard dash at the combine because he had a pulled hamstring, a month later at his pro day he said he couldn't run it because the hammy was about 85 percent...LOL I put Dysert in the same class as Nassib and Barkley. Just waaaaaay to slow to be a starter in the NFL.
