Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse
1billsfan replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mentioned this in the Tavon thread, but I'll mention it here also. Doug Marrone had Ryan Nassib for FOUR YEARS. Is there any logical reason for Marrone not to know if Nassib is NFL franchise material after that much time spent with him as his head coach? Therefore, if Marrone thinks Nassib's a franchise QB then he should be picked at #8. If he doesn't think he's a franchise QB then he shouldn't be picked in any round. I don't want Ryan Nassib at all since I think he looks like another Colt McCoy. If the Bills do pick Nassib then I'll expect him to be an elite franchise QB, because Marrone gave the stamp of approval. There will be no excuses since Marrone has been his teacher for four years. Marrone and Nassib sink or swim together. -
If they pass on Ryan Nassib at #8 then there would be no logical reason to pick him at #41. Why do I say this? Because Marrone's had Nassib for FOUR YEARS. Either he knows that Nassib is an elite franchise level QB or he knows that he's a marginal QB with the ceiling of an Andy Dalton or worse like a Colt McCoy. If Marrone doesn't know what Ryan Nassib is by now, he is truly an idiot. I'm of the opinion that Marrone has no intention of drafting Nassib because he knows that he's not this franchise's next Jim Kelly franchise level QB. Not even close. Marrone will draft a guy like Smith, Manuel or Scott who actually have true potential to become franchise QBs.

Less than 2 weeks till the draft, your pick at #8

With the new "can't touch 'em" rules I think trying to pick impactful defensive players in the first round is like chasing ghosts of a bygone era of the NFL. If I were a GM, my 1st round picks would almost always go to offensive players (unless it's a guy like Clowney from SC). The NFL has changed greatly in the last couple of years. I see adding Patterson like adding one of the real pieces that makes a team Superbowl winners. Kind of like how the Cowboys got Smith and Irvin in 1st rounds gearing up for their eventual winning of three titles. -

Patterson is the guy for me at #8. I think that he will be one of those guys that some teams ahead of us wish they'd drafted but went with the so-called "safe" pick instead. Go and watch his highlight videos again. His moves are unreal. The Bills need a true impact player on offense to compliment Spiller and one who you'd be happy to place the franchise tag on in the future. -
Bills workout Tennessee prospects, no Patterson
1billsfan replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Patterson's going to be a superstar in the NFL. The reason the Bills are doing this is because it's probably a smokescreen so the Jets don't jump them by swapping picks with the Cardinals. i think people overanalyze this stuff after a long draft season. This league is now about outscoring your opponent, it's no longer about stopping them. More than anything, you MUST have a QB AND a serious impactful receiving threat to compete for championships today. Seeing how Nix loved Spiller and seeing Patterson's even better freakish moves on the football field, it stands to reason the Patterson is a very real possibility at #8. I'm amazed at how undervalued the WR position has been this draft season. My hope is for Patterson at #8 and Scott at #41. If they both become big time hits then this team will instantly become a serious contender for a long time. -
Cordarrelle Patterson - WR - Tennessee
1billsfan replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Patterson's going to be a superstar. Just like all the greats,…he loves the game of football, he loves the spotlight and he has supreme confidence in his freakishly insane abilities. There's a very good chance the Bills will be getting the steal of the draft if they pick Patterson at #8. Let the teams ahead of us over-think themselves and go defense or OL. This league is being built just for players like Patterson to go off on defenses due to new league rules. -
More than any position in football, fan opinions on QBs are just as valid as draft "experts" because no one knows who has "it" and who doesn't unless of course they're slam dunk guys like Luck and RGIII. I remember two years ago laughing at Mike Mayock thinking Blaine Gabbert was the best QB and him thinking that Newton was going to be a bust. That's a pretty big miss on Mayock. I had it right and he had it wrong. Does that make me smarter? No, but it proves draft experts are extremely hit and miss with their QB evaluations no matter who they are talking about. I get the feeling it's the one position that frightens them the most in making their evaluations. As for absolutes on the best WR and QB, it's just my opinion. This place would be boring if everyone rode the fence on what they thought of who the best players were going to be, don't you think so?

Doug Marrone's had him for four years and Ryan Nassib's widely considered the fourth best QB in what's widely considered a "weak" QB class. Given this, how in the world could Marrone feel that Nassib is going to be a star QB in the NFL? That makes no sense to me. As for the draft...IMO, the Bills will draft Cordarelle Patterson at #8 and Matt Scott at #41. The best WR and the best QB in this class.

Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

Because I keep hearing from draft experts and fans here that he's late first/early second round talent. I see him as a career backup at best. He's like a Blaine Gabbert or a Colt McCoy to me. IMO he simply doesn't have the necessary athletic skills nor arm strength you must have to be a long term starter at the NFL level. -
Poll, Is there a Franchise QB in this year's draft
1billsfan replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the baseline for the "franchise QB" label are QBs like McNair, McNabb, Rivers and Romo. Guys who have the ability to carry a franchise, but aren't necessarily in the "elite" category. IMO Hasselback was a good QB, yet I never thought of as a franchise level QB. -

Looking at the landscape of the AFC, once Brady and Manning retire you have Luck, Flacco and a more and more frequently broken down Rothlesberger as the top QBs in what will be a weak conference in the next decade. It's not like the NFC which is loaded with great QBs. So the prospect of getting potential franchise QB talents like Smith, Manuel or Scott would be very promising for hopes of the Buffalo Bills returning to the Superbowl. I could see any of those three guys taking the Bills to the Superbowl in the soon to be very weak AFC. Then once you get in, you never know... -
Ryan Nassib - QB - Syracuse

I think Nassib has been one of the most over rated prospects this draft season and IMO is the seventh QB off the board. I have it in this order… 1st: Smith, Manuel 2nd: Barkley, Glennon, Scott 3rd: Wilson, Nassib I would LOVE for the Jets to draft him as their QB of the future. -

Nassib gets an A+ for sucking on purpose in the Senior Bowl. Seriously though, how weak and feeble minded would a guy have to be to go to that extent to be back with his college head coach. Also, why would any self respecting Bills fan want a guy who did that? -

Marrone was with the Saints, he knows what an elite, Superbowl winning QB looks like up close. If he doesn't know about Nassib after four years spent with him, then he needs a new profession. My guess is that due to his unathletic qualities and average arm strength, Marrone knows Nassib is at best a career backup. -
For the record, I think that writer is a jerk and I'd take Newton in a heartbeat. I wanted him drafted by the Bills at the time and I'd still take him on the Bills. Smith's personality is nothing more than just simply a concern for me, it's not a deal breaker. I'd be happy if the Bills drafted him at #8. I hope Scott's the guy, but I'll be pumped if it's either Smith or Manuel.
-
Through watching a few interviews of him, I do sense a possible personality quirk with Geno Smith like there was with McNabb and still is to some extent with Newton. There's almost an aire of him being a little too sensitive for the job of franchise QB. I'll be happy if he's the pick, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have concerns about Smith's personality.
-
Marrone was a coach with the Saints which had Drew Brees. They may see Scott as having the same skill set as Brees. Fast, athletic, quick and accurate release, very competitive. He's rough around the edges. But with Kolb they could bring him along slowly enough. Glad he may be in the conversation, thanks for sharing that.
-
Projection wise he's as good of a prospect IMO. He's not as polished, but there's no reason why Scott wouldn't have thrown for 35+ TDs and vaulted to the top of the 2014 draft if given another year of starting in college. To me, he's been the most under rated prospect in this draft in terms of draft experts, media and fans. We'll see how the NFL sees him by which round they draft him in. Beyond the physical attributes, this guy seems like a guy who truly hates losing to me. He seems to possess that gene that all the great QBs have. I think he makes a great franchise QB prospect. We shall see.
-
Scott does indeed need a year of polishing up and it's clear now that there's no way they were ever thinking of drafting Matt "most ready to start" Barkley. This move screams the Bills are not taking a QB at #8. They're either taking BPA…a Jordan, Ansah or Jones type pick, or they will trade out of #8 for an extra 2nd or 3rd rd pick.
-
Russell Wilson had four years of college starts. He was obviously polished. Imagine if Matt Scott had four years of college starts. He had 27 TDs this year. imagine what year three of starting would have been like. As for Wilson, it still remains to be seen this year whether his height will be an issue or not. DCs are doing their homework on him this off season. If he can be successful this year he will be officially one of the top QBs. But we've seen players that don't have answers to the DCs answers after their first year of success. I'm shocked that you're not a bigger fan of Matt Scott's. When I saw his Stanford and USC video's I couldn't believe the difference in the combination of arm, athleticism and competitor than to ALL the other QBs being discussed here the first couple of months.
-
Would be ironic if this were the Ryan Nassib thread. But it's the Matt Scott thread. Really, look up the slang definition for echo chamber.
-
That's the same round Wilson went in. Don't be surprised if he goes in the second round though like Kaepernick did. BTW, did you read the article? Matt Scott sounds like this years diamond in the rough steal of a QB. You need to look past the echo chamber and check out what Scott has that all of these other QBs in this class don't (read the article). The reason I like him better than Smith and Manuel is that he is tough and a true gamer. Two things that I think are suspect in both Smith and Manuel. As for all the others, I don't think they're starting material in the NFL let alone franchise QB material.
