  1. This. The Raiders didn't have a first round pick last year and they don't have a second round pick this year all because of trading for Carson Palmer. It's because of that steep of price that there's almost no way I could see the Raiders picking Geno Smith. They have to ride it out with Palmer one more year and hope that they hit on their 1st and 3rd round picks to start rebuilding that team's core. I think the Raiders know they'll be bad this year and will look to pick their "QB of the future" in 2014 when that QB class will have a much more sure thing prospect than what Geno Smith currently offers.
  2. I think it's safe to say that the possibility of Ryan Nassib squeaking out a win in a 40 yard dash between the two is the only thing he's better at than Tom Brady. I also think it's safe to say that hearing rumors of the Bills wanting Nassib is a sure sign that they don't want him.
  3. Joe Flacco (2008 NFL Combine) - 4.84 That's actually a passable number for an NFL QB especially one who's so tall with long arms and legs which buys you time. Now the question should be whether Nassib or Barkley could outrun a glacier. Unfortunately, NFL teams don't put glaciers on their defense.
  4. The Bills must already know that Nassib is a backup QB at the NFL level. I've read this stuff could be a smoke screen by them. Marrone was the line coach on a Saints team who had Drew Brees. He has to know what it takes both physically and mentally. Nassib may be a hard worker, but there's nothing he can do about being slower than 12 offensive lineman in the combine. Or that out of the entire cast of defensive players at the combine he was only faster than 10 of them. You know, the guys that will be chasing him? In his career, Barkley has -113 yards rushing the football. Think that had something to do with him not wanting to run the 40 yard dash? Ryan Nassib at least had 139 positive yards rushing and he was one of the slowest players at the combine. I know that some fans of these two players will say, "hey, he's supposed to throw the football not run with it!". But consider that these defensive players will be waaay too fast for them to even get the pass off. That is, unless you have the mid-90s Cowboy offensive line. I like two guys who I think have the traits you want in a franchise QB, Matt Scott and EJ Manuel. I'm very wary of Smith because of his subdued personality, but the guy obviously has the physical traits. If they picked Geno Smith, I would be at least happy they have the guy with the physical traits to play the position at an elite level. Nassib and Barkley are backups at best in the NFL.
  5. Matt Scott had the best final minute of any of the QBs in the bowl games... http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?id=323500012
  6. Ryan Nassib is slower than 12 offensive lineman in the 40 yard dash...LOL
  7. If this is true, then I'm really starting to wish the Bills never hired Doug Marrone. This would not be the plan for the Bills to become the 49ers of the AFC, it's the plan to become the Cincinnati "one and done in the playoffs is good enough for me" Bengals.
  8. The videos of Nassib are on youtube with all his throws. His WRs are constantly waiting on the ball to get there when he throws it deep, and those are college WRs not NFL WRs who are much faster. Not only that, but Nassib seems to put a lot of his body into those type of throws. I give the kid a lot of credit for having a very good college career at Syracuse. I simply hope the Bills don't see him as a potential franchise QB. If they do and they pick him, I will expect another three year delay in this franchise making a real comeback. When you starting having to tout a QBs bench press then I think you should KNOW he's not the guy. Nassib doesn't have the arm, speed or athletic ability to be a starting QB in the NFL. He could be a good backup though. I think that's what his destiny is at the next level.
  9. Let me first say that I think Barkley and Nassib are two great guys and would be great for the Bills to pick as "flyers" in later rounds. However there are two guys that, in my opinion, have both the physical skills and the right personality to possibly attain the top ten franchise NFL QB level and that's Matt Scott and EJ Manuel. Yes, they have drawbacks too but all of these guys do. They have the most upside to me. They are both fast, they can elude the rush and throw on the run, they can run with the ball, they are both accurate, they are both very personable guys which is important also. There are negatives to Scott...only one year to evaluate, comes from a quick read offense, smallish build. The negatives on Manuel are inconsistencies in the passing game and he didn't put up huge numbers. With that being said, I still hope one of them is taken by the Bills at some point in this draft. I don't want either of them with the first round pick because neither are not worthy of that kind of risk there. But after that I wouldn't be upset if they picked one of them with the second round pick.
  10. If you're intimidated by seniors, what does that say about how long it will take to be ready to take over an NFL team? That is if you even have the necessary arm strength and/or athletic ability to even be effective at that level, which I don't think he has. To me, Nassib is a Fitzpatrick clone, with the best case scenario him being Andy Dalton who's a forever average kind of guy. I haven't been waiting 20 years for the next Andy Dalton, I want the next Jim Kelly. As for Geno and Barkley, I don't like either of them. I don't like Geno's sullen personality at all, and I think Barkley's another "best case scenario" Andy Dalton type.
  11. Nassib literally wilted in the Senior Bowl. He looked scared and intimidated in that game.
  12. Eactly how is "some of the people were dead on" equate to there being a clamoring for Kaeprnick on TSW? Also, the "there were a lot of discussions" comment didn't mean that there was a clamoring for Kaepernick. If anything, it was more so the opposite of that. The majority of the fans here didn't want the Bills to draft him in either rd 1 or rd 2 of the 2011 draft. I'm not apologizing for being open minded with regards to the QB position and who the Bills should draft, I still am. Only it's down to two QBs now...either Matt Scott and EJ Manuel...LOL
  13. The 2011 Tennessee Titans (#8, Jake Locker) called and said you should definitely wait and to draft your QB in the 2nd round this year.
  14. No hard feelings at all. When I saw this video I was astonished that this kid hasn't hit the radar here or in the draft expert media. Although that may be changing... http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Fourdown-territory-Scotts-rising-stock.html "I did not foresee such a loud buzz to surround the dual-threat signal-caller after catching the eye of scouts across the league at the NFL's Scouting Combine." http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/14-Players-Who-Helped-Their-Draft-Stock-Most-At-Combine.html "12. Matt Scott, QB, Arizona: Many of the bigger names quarterbacks failed to impress at the Combine, but Scott definitely showed that he has to be considered one of the better developmental prospects. Regarded more as a run first quarterback whose strength was his athleticism, Scott’s quick release, strong arm and accuracy were much better than expected. Scott still needs a big pro day, but if he throws as well as he did in Indy then I believe he will end up climbing to the top of day three on Draft day." IMO it's for sure, he doesn't get past the Jaguars at #95. His former QB coach at Arizona is now the QB coach for the Jaguars. We all know that the new regime there can't wait to give Blaine Gabbert the boot. Also, I could see an unexpected team with a QB willing to pick Scott in the third round. San Francisco comes to mind since they have so many picks and he'd be a perfect backup if Kaepernick were to get hurt and miss some games. So if the Bills want him it would have to be their 3rd round pick but who's to say the Jags don't get "spooked" seeing his stock rise and pick him with their third rounder. I know many here think I'm crazy, but this is why I'd also consider him with the second round pick. This QB class has all the earmarkings of a dud class. After watching all of the videos, the only two QBs that I really like (they seem to have the combination of NFL level physical skills and leadership qualities) and who I think have that star QB potential is Manuel and Scott. As for Geno Smith, I just get a really bad vibe from him personality-wise. He doesn't seem like a very positive or sociable person to me. I may be wrong, but that's the vibe I get.
  15. You need to read the thread to get the whole context. I got dissed for putting Scott in the same boat as Kaepernick and WIlson. It has nothing to do with the Bills picking players.
  16. Would you rather have a guy who knows Xs and Os but doesn't have the arm or physical skills to be a starting NFL QB (Barkley, Nassib) or the guy with the arm and great physical skills who could be taught the Xs and Os. Obviously you'd want both, but that kind of guy is getting picked #1 overall like Andrew Luck. If Cam Newton (no rocket scientist) can learn an NFL offense then why couldn't this kid? BTW, Matt Scott beat Russell Wilson's combine cone drills times. A QB who's obviously incredibly quick and athletic. These kind of QBs are the future of the NFL QB position. Guys like Flacco, Brady and Manning are going the way of the dinosaurs. These college programs are not staying with the classic drop back guys any longer. The NFL is changing and old school QBs like Barkley and Nassib will not have any careers of note in the league.
  17. I think we're splitting hairs here. Maybe I should say that there was no TSW groundswell. We both know what one of those is like here. I don't want to fight with anybody here. I'm too old for that. I was just shocked that this guy has not been seriously discussed at length here. As for me just wanting an "'athletic QB that can run" go back and watch him throw the ball. That ball explodes off his arm and is very accurate. THAT is what I real like about Matt Scott! The fact that he's athletic and is fast and quick to make cuts and move just ADDS to why I think he's better than any QB in this draft. Here' a highlight of his throws vs USC and an interview… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfLgZ4GqGWk I look at Barkley and Nassib and I see the same throwing motion that Fitzpatrick has. I think that they are both backups at the NFL level because they do not have the arm or athleticism to be a successful starter. Matt Scott has both the arm and athleticism and the only thing is how long to get him comfortable enough to be the starter. Six games in? A year? Two years? If he's a six games in or a year type of learner than the Bills should seriously consider drafting him as their QB of the future in the second round. Maybe after trading back in the round for an extra third would be the best thing to do.
  18. I don't know why this guy hasn't been getting more press. He throws the ball much better than anyone in this class. Did you see how many drops there were in that Stanford game?...LOL
  19. Dude, I'm here almost everyday. I went back into the damn TSW archives. There was NO clamoring for drafting either of these two players PERIOD By "no clamoring" I mean other than a few fans showing passionate support for the Bills drafting of either Kaepernick or Wilson. It nice that you posted the college stats of these guys, but where was this fervor from you in April 2011 or April 2012? It's AMAZING the clarity you have now for these guys. You are basically saying "I told you so" even though you never actually really did tell us so before their respective drafts. The reality is that Matt Scott looks ever bit the NFL QB that Kaepernick and Wilson did when they were being evaluated. I really don't care that he only has one year to look at. That was the case with Cam Newton. I think the long college career thing is played out. I'm not in fear of making another one year wonder Aaron Maybin mistake because I never thought he was big enough in the first place. These college players today are no longer intimidated by the NFL like they were years ago. Matt Scott does not seem intimidated and appears to have the same "I'm really good, you'll see" attitude that both Kaepernick and Wilson had coming into the NFL.
  20. I highly doubt the Raiders pick Geno Smith. They are a team devoid of talent and they just lost Richard Seymour. They have no 2nd round pick this year. They need to hit on their 1st and 3rd round picks badly and will probably wait to look at next year's QBs since they will no doubt be picking top 5 again. That would be a disaster scenario for Smith.
  21. Revisionist history much. Kaepernick and Wilson were complete afterthoughts here. I went back and looked at the archives. There were only a few that liked them enough for the Bills to pick them. Where was this love of these guys from you before their drafts? If you can't post such a thing then you really have no business mocking anyone liking Scott over any of these bozos in this draft class. If you're so certain, please show me a better (key word) college game video of Wilson or Kaepernick than Scott displays here against Stanford.
  22. Do we as Bills fans really want to look down at "sleeper QB" prospects? Stanford not good enough opponent for you? I've been watching a lot of the 2013 QB youtube videos of Smith, Barkley, Nassib, Manuel ect and not one of them has a better video showing ball throwing skills than the one I posted. That ball shoots out and is on the money every time. Bang bang. Remember, the Bills passed on Kaepernick and Wilson both of which were pretty much scoffed at by the majority of fans here (including me) as real franchise QB prospects. Not sure if either one had a much better video than Scott's Stanford game.
  23. Probably won't be there. I've been doing some reach on Matt Scott and it seems like the Jaguars would be the team taking him for sure at the very top of the 4th round (pick #95). His former college QB coach is the current Jags QB coach and they obviously need serious help at the QB position. They'd love to purge Gabbert and have this year's Russell Wilson story. Also, it's clear after reading up on him that Scott is the official "Sleeper QB" of this draft. That being the case, does he even make it to the Jags at pick #95? Given the successes of athletic running QBs like Kaepernick and Wilson, the answer is probably no. I could make a case for eight teams possibly taking him the back end of that third round. So now we'd be talking about the Bills taking him with their third round pick if they want to draft him...but hold on! There's still a month and a half to go for this kid's stock to rise up another level and the Jags start realizing they have to take him with their third rd pick (#64). One thing this guy doesn't lack is confidence. He said that he thinks he has the strongest arm in this class. Something he also said, "I’m a big competitor. I like to go out and lay it on the line every play, every down. I have great arm talent. I can do pretty well on the move, can be mobile at times. I think I’ll be a great fit for any offense.” http://tucsoncitizen.com/wildcatreport/2013/02/20/ex-arizona-quarterback-matt-scott-i-have-strongest-arm-at-nfl-combine/ This was the first time I saw video of Scott. I'd rather have Scott than any QB in this class and that includes EJ Manuel who's now my second favorite QB in this class.
  24. Yeah I said it. I just got done watching a video of Matt Scott in the Stanford game and he is the best QB prospect in this QB class that I've seen. He has a quick and accurate Marino-like release, great arm, he makes great decisions, he stands strong and delivers in the pocket when about to take a hit, he has great feet. Seriously, why hasn't this kid been talked about around here? After watching his tape and understanding that he got very positive reviews from his combine day, this guy must is the best kept secret from fans and media in this draft. I can't believe that NFL GMs are not noticing him as a potential star NFL QB... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUa4xUGoeM0 This guy Matt Scott has a Colin Kaepernick-type vibe to him. Great talent who is shrugged off by the experts, but who has a lot of guts and belief in their talents. I see no way that he makes it to the third round pick of the Bills. Why are we talking about bench warmer guys like Barkley and Nassib who have nothing on this kid Matt Scott?
  25. I actually like EJ Manuel the best and my hope is that we end up with Patterson at #8 and Manuel at #41. With that being said, it would take some mighty big balls for the Bills to pass on Geno Smith. Unlike the other teams in front of us, this team is ready for a playoff push now and really can't wait any longer for their QB of the future. My concern with Geno is his leadership abilities, if the FO feels that T. Jackson and/or Fitzpatrick will buy them a year to mature him into the leadership role, then that's something that could actually work. I'd be stunned if the Bills passed on him given how long they've been looking for a QB with his kind of QB skills and talent.
