It took until week #8 of his third season for Chicago's coach to have to come out and declare that Trubisky will remain the starter. The ESPN crew had a segment about it on Monday Night Countdown. Showed several examples yesterday of bad plays by Mitch or conservative play calls to protect the offense from making a critical error and losing the game. Of course they ultimately missed a FG and lost the game. I think it was Louis Riddick tonight that said the writing is on the wall. Nagy will be searching for a new QB in the offseason. He's bringing down the whole offense. And it's rough because they could have had Watson or Mahomes. Vrabel has already kicked Mariota to the curb. These coaches don't have time to wait around for a guy to flash some competent play. It's a tough business.

How we get to 10 wins and playoffs...
zow2 replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel like we will lose one of Denver, Wash, Jets, Miami. and they will win one of Browns or Steelers. If they somehow lose 3 of those 6 games, no playoffs. -
Allen will be good, as long as what the OP suggested happens. Let Josh be Josh. Stop trying to make him into something he's not.
-
The designed runs are being over-used. I think we can agree. Teams are ready for it. What i want to see more of though is his insane scrambling ability when he can't find an open receiver. Take off and run dude....stop chucking it out of bounds and wasting downs. They've beaten that into his head. Newsflash-- the D ain't elite. We need more than 20+ points to win some games.

Lot's of threads going on with similar subject matter about Josh. As i said in another post. the coaches may now have to allow Josh to play more of his style of game...which is the opposite of the Robotic pocket passer guy they are forcing him to be. I've just about had enough with the chucking it out of bounds or at the Linemen's feet and wasting downs.. He needs to take off and run, make a play. He's a huge weapon. He doesn't have to hurdle guys,.. slide or go out of bounds.. manage the risk as best he can. He's also pretty good at throwing on the run when he scrambles. No one wants to see interceptions..but it happens. That's why teams want to see a 2:1 TD to INT ratio.

I hear you. I believe the thinking was that "our defense is so good let's not have Josh play Madden on the field and screw things up". Well, after Miami and Philly (and to some extent Cincinnati)...we've seen the defense can be beaten down. The coaches may now have to allow Josh to play a bit of his style of game...which is the opposite of Robotic pocket passer guy. Enough with the chucking it out of bounds or at the Linemen's feet and wasting precious downs.. Take off and run, make a play. He's a weapon. The Ravens have scored 20+ points in every game. They allow Lamar to be Lamar Jackson, the dual threat guy.. they're done with the Joe Flacco one dimensional stuff. But when he's asked to be a passer, he's accurately hitting guys down the field as well for some chunk plays.
-
I'll buy part of that. The system sounds complex and they definitely are trying to make Josh more of a stand-in-the-pocket guy. We can hope he's that kind pf passer someday but for now he's more Lamar Jackson than a Matt Ryan. They should let Josh be Josh and not some robotic, conservative, pocket passer who has 2.3 seconds to recognize coverages, break down defenses...and throw an accurate pass on top of it.

Agreed. People locally can't seem to judge this QB's performances honestly. He's a great guy, seems to have a high QB IQ level. We all want him to do well. As for garbage time... it's just woeful that they couldn't string together some short passes and dump off's to move down the field late. The Eagles were just giving Buffalo the middle of the field....and they couldn't take it. Every NFL game has that aspect. One poster told me it's Daboll's fault because we don't have a good screen game. please. lol.

Alot of people on this board aren't seeing this. It's another denial thing where Josh is fine,.... it's the OC, play calling, O-line, RB's can't catch, receivers stink, etc.. Bottom line, it's a combination of all the above.. But this QB has to be better, and soon. The coaching staff wants him to be anchored in the pocket, scan the field and recognize the defense in 2 seconds, and make an accurate pass... That's what Bean and McDermott want him to do. He's not doing it successfully...Yet. When he does it well, I will be his biggest cheerleader.

That's not really true. The score was 24-13 and the Bills had a great chance to make it 24-20 with THREE straight possessions that literally went nowhere. one of which was in excellent field position. The Eagles got that final nail-in-the-coffin TD after the O failed miserably when the team needed them to step up. I'd give Allen a solid D grade yesterday.
-
Exactly. Good point. People think I'm hating on Allen. I like the guy. His unscripted scrambles are a thing of beauty when he buys some extra time and takes off for 7-10 yards... It kills the defense. It's a weapon. I can do without the designed runs but his scrambles are usually very productive. Throwing the football into the feet of the linemen or out of bounds works for a guy like Brady because he's so darn accurate (on the remaining two downs) and he has zero ability to gain yards with his legs. I wish they would stop over-coaching Allen and let him play his game.

How many 200 yard, 2 TD games do we get to watch before we see our franchise QB throw a 300 yard, 3 TD game?!? When can we have an offense that can bail out the defense? You see a guy come off the couch in Atlanta and throw 450... you see Bridgewater who hadn't played in a couple years throw for 350 and 4 TD's.. you have Daniel Jones tossing multiple 300 yd games already.. Minshew, etc.. Not saying Josh should have thrown for 300 and 3 TDs in those weather conditions yesterday, but c'mon. Stop with the excuses. Time to grow up. After the Singletary TD, there was ample opportunity to get chunk passing yards on screen plays and they still couldn't do it. I don't care as much about the designed run fumble yesterday, I care more that when Allen stands in the pocket and scans the field, a lot of bad things happen. That's very concerning.

Wasn't the defense's fault. The offense needs to be better
zow2 replied to Adamb412's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. The Bills were down 24-13. Had the ball in great field position..they had the ball for THREE straight possessions.. and the pop gun offense managed like 20 total yards on those 3 possessions. Hideous offense. You need the offense to come through for one game and bail out the defense and they failed miserably. I won't let the D off the hook.. but alot of the 200 yards rushing was to kill the clock after the offense could do nothing to make it a game. -
After it was 24-13, the Bills had 3 drives and I don't know the passing numbers off those 3 drives but they were horrible. I'm sorry, the QB needs to do better. So many people on this board blame the play calling and the receivers, etc.. Even losers like Matt Schaub can throw for 400+ yards, ,....Daniel Jones has now had multiple 300 yd games. Josh needs to read the field and recognize overages quickly and get the ball out. IF he is incapable, then he should take off and scramble because that's his best play..not the designed runs but rather the unscripted scrambles.

I get bummed out watching some other teams. The Bills have no explosiveness on offense. We don’t have a QB that recognizes and exploits defensive schemes. Argh.

Sunday Night Football: Packers at Chiefs 8:20 ET

Even falling over, having to throw side armed, off balance, Rodgers is so accurate -
I think any chance for the Redskins to catch the Bills napping ended today. They now have the Buffalo Bills full attention. Washington's defense could cause some problems..simply because Allen and the receivers aren't dominating anyone. The Bills should be able to run enough and dink & dunk their way to a 20-10 type of win.

Careful now,, some of the board will get up all in your grill if you criticize JA. -
Our next 4 games are very winnable
zow2 replied to Victory Formation's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Should beat the Skins but their D will cause some problems for the Bills O. Cleveland will be 50/50. IF we get the "good" version of the Browns that's likely a loss. Dolphins should be a W, and Denver has played some teams tough and Indy barely beat them today. -
Houston got some real home cooking on some penalty calls in the 4th Qtr and non-calls that should've gone against them! The Raiders should have won that game on their final drive. Dumb refs.
-
The two best quarters to have the wind at your back in Orchard Park are the 2nd and 4th quarters. That's because they are typically the longest Qtrs with two minute warnings and team timeouts. The Bills maneuvered after the coin toss to have the wind for BOTH of them. That is a fantastic job, and I think 8 out of 10 times would have helped win us the game. Most teams when they had to receive the opening kickoff would've chosen the wind at their backs but the Bills didn't. Good to see some smart decision making. But Philly went off with a great running attack today and ball controlled it the 4th quarter. Good on them, but not easy. Belichek never would've allowed Buffalo to have the wind for both 2nd and 4th Qtrs.

A Few Thoughts about the Eagles Game, in no particular order
zow2 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Terrible loss today, for the entire team. Coaching was poor, D was gashed, D-line was really embarrassed... receivers were mostly blanketed as usual and when they weren’t Allen missed on a lot, and his fumbles of course. Just nothing positive today. Move on. -
When is Allen going to have "that game", and do you care?
zow2 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I gotta call him out when he plays poorly. He had like 9 yards passing after the Singletary screen TD. Even when Philly was giving him the middle of the field. I don’t pin the Loss entirely on Josh but he was lousy. -

Boom. Nailed it. Been saying this to my buddies all season. I actually liked the risk taking, scrambling Josh better than the pocket-passer Josh. He moved the chains last year. In big chunks. If he gets hurt so be it. It wouldn’t be ideal but Barkley is efficient. They need to do fewer designed runs and allow Allen to scramble from the pocket if he needs to.
