  1. Interesting argument, but I'm not sure how relevant it is. Indy hasn't had many top 15 picks, but they have used four recent first round picks on WR/TE. Baltimore used a very high pick (#10) on Chris McAllister and (#10) on Travis Taylor. They won the Superbowl that year, but those don't mean your arbitrary 2001 cutoff. They Eagles have also drafted a WR and CB in the first round this decade, but as you said, they don't often draft top 15. NE has used two first round picks on TEs this decade and one on a DB. The Packers have used a #20 on a WR and a #14 on a Te in 2000. So I think your numbers largely come from your arbitrary cutoffs of top 15 and since 2001 more than anything real. I also don't think the teams you picked are the best teams of the past seven years. If you want to look at how these teams became winners (how's this - four of five have franchise QB's), I think that may be more useful, instead of looking at what they did after they got there.
  2. He seems to be high on your boy Nelson.
  3. I meant 'selling' in the generating buzz sense. Okay, I should've been more clear.
  4. That was before we added two, though.
  5. http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/story.html?id=373311 The story says it's still early, but they're not off to the start that they wanted.
  6. Kzoo, a while back you started doing your own previews of certain players. What are your write-ups of the MSU pair?
  7. According to the trade chart, that would value JP as a high 4th. I'd hold out for more. At the very least, keep our fifth.
  8. I don't know where you think Crowell is rated, but given you never hear a peep from the national media about him and he enver gets Pro Bowl consideration, I think he's very underrated. If this is a contract year, watch out.
  9. A few questions: Based on everything you've seen, why are you so low on Bradley? The measurables on him seem to look very good, and I don't think you can be "too big" to be SLB in the cover-2. Plus, ESPN seems relatively high on him. If our starting linebackers on Sept. 9th are Durant, Ellison, and Crowell, who do you see lining up at which spot? Who would you guess would be available at 43? 76? Is Willis worth the 12th pick?
  10. Where did he have us taking Youboty?
  11. Best part was, the whole time the were showing bad plays by the Bills. They must've shown 20 interceptions by JP. You would've been left with the impression that the Bills went winless last year.
  12. Basically, Trey Wingo was hosting, asked if Anthony Thomas constituted the worst running back situation in the NFL right now? Smith said yes, and then added deliberately, "But it's April." He said the Bills are cautiously optimistic AP will be around, and then that RB situation will look very different. Smith also said he's high on JP. Reese was down on everything, saying the Bills lost their best offensive player in Willis and defender in Spikes. He didn't even talk about Clements too much.
  13. Super Bill (Orchard Park, NY): Mort, you're coming to Upstate NY! We'll roll out the welcoming mat for sure. Chris Mortensen: (4:08 PM ET ) That's going to be a great night with the Bills getting back on Monday night. ..especially against the Cowboys. I'm on record as saying I don't like how the Bills proceeded this off-season but I think they can still be competitive and I do really like their coaching staff. They do have to get an RB, as you know - I hear they may have offered a 2nd rounder to San Diego for Turner but that's not enough, apparently. They also have to get an LB and Patrick Willis will be tempting with that first pick.

  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2828059 I haven't seen this posted yet. Overall, it looks pretty favorable to our moves so far, and I can't find anything to get worked up about. And it's by this board's new #1 target, Jeremy Green. I don't think he hates the Bills, but the way they treat him in chats, he may start hating Bills fans.
  16. Is it possible for us to trade our first to Chicago for Briggs and their first, or something along those lines, and then surrender that pick to the Titans? Or are you locked in to surrendering the pick you got?
  17. AFAIK, the only restricted FA ever to be signed away for a 1st and a 3rd is Curtis Martin when the Tuna brought him to the Jets. Just saying.
  18. Don't we need a Strong-side LB and Briggs is a weak-side? Does anyone know what LB corps of Briggs, Crowell and Ellison would look like?
  19. The other 7-9 teams are at 45-1 and 50-1, so we're not really out of line with the rest.
  20. Cash to the cap was a response to inequitable revenue sharing, not escalating player salaries. Now that Ralph has found a revenue sharing arrangement he likes, who knows?
  21. “The great trouble with baseball today is that most of the players are in the game for the money and that's it, not for the love of it, the excitement of it, the thrill of it.” - Ty Cobb, 1925 Yeah, it's been around.
  22. "Some would call it an irresponsible generalization to suggest that McGahee is the portrait of the young modern athlete. McGahee was just open enough and honest enough to reveal himself." Yeah, I'd say that is a hell of an irresponsible jump to criticize all young modrn athletes on this basis. I think more than enough of them turn out to be decent fellows. And before we allow another middle-aged, overweight Yankee-fan sportswriter to complain about the modern athlete (and yes, the writer is white, the athlete is black), can we remind him of the lifestyles that Babe Ruth, Joe Dimaggio, and Mickey Mantle led? I don't remember them being well-ersed in the Iliad or making any sizeable donations to charity. McGahee's a jerk. I think it should be left at that.
  23. Did anyone else assume this is in case he slips to us in the second round? That's what I thought it was.
