Schobel was averaging 10 sacks a year when they signed him to the extension, including 14 the season before. Even if he's been disappointing since, the contract made sense at the time.

On the TD, he must have been injured, though I haven't heard anyone say this.
On the sneaks, Edwards has been money, too, in those situations, until he fumbled today. And, btw, he was well past the first down line on the fumble.
