Now that the season has concluded and a few days has past I have some speculations on the Bills' situation. The first being that I had a knee jerk reaction to our season. Being disappointed in no post season play again brought out a lot of frustration. While I still feel the same about Hackett and that I don't like his play calling I'd like to reconsider my opinion on Marrone. Basically I'm admitting that I erred in my opinion of Marrone. Ok, I was wrong! In the aftermath of the season and all that has unfolded Marrone has held this team/players together. I find that very impressive and he should be recognized for it. While the defense has been held down by 2 consecutive DCs I don't feel that Marrone can take credit for the defensive output from this unit. Marrone did address STs this year quite nicely and Whaley deserves a big thumbs up for the assist. The offense underperformed and is the eyesore for this franchise and Marrone is accountable for that but if he can address the offense in this off season with Whaley'ds help like they did with the STs then we should have the results next year that we all hoped for for this year. I don't see a big shake up to this current administration, just a tune up or a realignment. I think that Terry Pegula likes and appreciates what Russ Brandon has done in this owner transition. While Brandon may not stay in his current position I don't see Pegula just dumping him, the guy has been a very loyal soldier. Remember, One Buffalo and I believe that Pegula believes in that. Brandon will probably be changing titles in the new realignment of the Buffalo sport franchises. I have seen the few posts about Marrone having the clause to opt out. It doesn't strike me that he would do that simply because he would be in direct contrast to all that he mentored. The few post game locker room videos that I have watched this season he always preached about the Bills' family. I don't believe the guy is a hypocrite, a Nick Saban he's not. That doesn't mean that he won't lie through his teeth to the media but internally I believe the guy is of conviction. Regardless if I don't like or agree with his convictions I do respect him for having them. I'm slowly realizing that he's a man's man kind of guy and I like that.....a lot. He started back in TC when he had to let Hughes know who runs this team. Whether we retain Hughes or not but by season's end Hughes had nothing but love for Marrone because the guy was his coach and took his back after the Pro Bowl selections were made. Once again, very impressive. QB is the flavor of the year and I'd like to comment on it as well. I don't know if EJ is the answer, matter of fact as of now I say he's not but then I think about Aaron Rodgers and how the Packers had the luxury of having him sit behind Brett Farve. Now I realize that we don't have a HOF QB playing in front of him there's 2 points that I'd like to make about EJ. First, at this point, the guy is an investment for the Bills, right or wrong, if we like it or not. In the turn of events that is exactly what he is right now. My 2nd point correlates to my first point and that is in a limited time EJ was able to sit behind Orton and see how a veteran QB runs a team. Cleveland ruined Tim Couch, let's not repeat the same mistake. Now imo Orton was/is not the best mentor to learn from but there was things that he was able to show and teach EJ. Keep in mind that in EJ's first year we didn't even have a QB coach for him. Btw, why was that??! This kid never had anyone in front of him to show him how to be an NFL QB. We need a veteran QB in here still and maybe even another one through the draft or a young veteran like *Mark Sanchez/*Nick Foles (*examples only) in case all else fails. I admit that I had high expectations for him but they were unrealistic. He wasn't a big time 1st rd pick, he was actually projected as a decent 2nd rder. We reached and I believed, guilty as charged. I will say that EJ's reactions, in hindsight with all that has happened to him, has been over and beyond anyone's expectations. The kid has worked his ass off and is starving for knowledge and seeks to find it. I believe that he's more athlete than QB and the Bills are are trying to educate him too much on how to be a QB. I say that if and when he gets to play then let him be more himself and just let it rip. Play to his strengths and quit trying to cram too much into his head. The guy is too robotic, let him flow. Last but not least the OL. It wouldn't surprise me if the Bills flipped their Tackles if Cordy still doesn't step up and Henderson does. I think that we have the right players for the most part but that we may have to realign them. As far as Eric Wood goes, I love the guy, he's been a Bill through and through but if he doesn't step up also from this last year then maybe a position change is in order or even just a flat out replacement. I expect us to draft a Center this year in the mid rounds regardless. I was listening to Chris Brown on the John Murphy show and a caller suggested that we need a bell cow RB. I agree with him wholeheartedly. I hate to see Spiller go but we got too many RBs and none of them are hitting their capabilities. Here's what I'm thinking. If we can't sign Spiller to a reasonable contract and find the effective way to use him then we need to move on. As far as Bryce Brown goes I'd like us to get what we can for him in a trade. Acquire a between the tackle RB in either in free agency, draft or in a trade, whatever. Use Fred as more of a 3rd down/situational RB and Dixon for what he is, a short yardage/ST RB/player.

Well, the rumors certainly are swirling around. It is time to revamp some things. It's been 15 years since post season, things need to get tweaked. Here's the latest rumor: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/28/brian-ayrault-emerges-as-possible-addition-to-bills-front-office/ -

Hey Bill, before I forget, Merry Christmas to you and your family. I don't know, I don't want to beleague my point but could it be that our coaches aren't very good? I feel that we have too many players underperforming. If it was only Spiller that wasn't producing satisfactory then I would take it with a grain of salt. I don't think Fred is setting the world on fire either but his heart is getting him some results. I find it hard that we have 5 OL that blow, especially that a few of them have performed rather decently in the past. At some point the Coach and OC have to take some accountability. We don't seem to have any problem with our defense the last 2 years. Coincidence?? I think not. -

Let's put it to a vote. Who wants the Bills to re-sign Spiller and who doesn't care if he leaves in FA? I want him to be re-signed. -

No, no, no confusion at all, I know exactly what you said and when you said it. -

If you would have stated this to my original post of this thread then I would have agreed with you and apologized but I find nothing wrong to my response that you captioned. I don't agree that we don't have talent on offense, that's my opinion. Some of our players on the OL played much better in the past. Why the regression? I blame the coaching. I'm good with if you or others don't agree with that, that's the beauty of a message board. In all fairness I should state that I don't hate everything about Marrone. I do give him credit for keeping this team together in the face of adversary all year, that was pretty unique. And then there is this: Bills Mobile: Marrone called Hughes after Pro Bowlers named http://bit.ly/1x556MX Now Hackett on the other hand....... -

I pretty much shutted up this season but now that it's about to conclude there are several points that have me dissatisfied, one of the biggest is the misuse of Spiller and how it has made him look, thus making re-signing more of a remote possibility. Here a few more points that has left me wondering about the direction of this team/roster. Most of these points overlap each other. A) The situation of our OC and his play calling. B) Our ineptness of the QB position and not adjusting to it effectively. C) Marrone. I think that he's an !@#$ and is useless. For 2 years now he didn't have to concern himself with anything to do with the defense, that responsibility has been lifted from him. All he had to do was make this a somewhat efficient offense. This here is such an eyesore that it can't emphasized enough. Our offense is a joke and we have talent on it. I'm not a stat guy but I know what I have seen all year. Our red zone, overall scoring and ball control is putrid. Marrone is suppose to be offensive minded and our offense is an embarrassment. Our defense has literally carried us all year. D) Our OL is a mystery. I blame Marrone for not getting more out of them. He's a former OL and our OL sucks. Why??! E) Mike Williams. I don't understand what happened with him. I admit that I don't know what happened here but to me it seems like we kind of shitted on him. The guy is a local boy and I find it difficult to believe that he would come home, in front of his family, friends and community and be a problem. Was he unhappy that he wasn't playing enough? I'm sure that he wasn't thrilled about it, I wouldn't or blame him if he was. My can't believe that we couldn't find a way to utilize him more. *See point A). Very insight! I can understand and agree with much of what you're saying. Nice job! -
And that means for them to get rid of that jerk Marrone, that 4 eyed little weasel Hackett and soon to follow that mope Orton. I think that Terry likes Brandon and Whaley is safe as well. In hindsight that little outburst in training camp that Marrone displayed is gonna come back and bite him in the ass. That was VERY unprofessional and his ornery attitude can't be all that appealing to the Pegulas. I don't recall anyone of ever accusing Marrone of being one to enhance the image of this franchise. I would love to see the Pegulas bring in Bill Polian as a consultant, much like the Jets are doing with Charlie Casserly. If they did you can count on one thing and that is not only is Polian very competent but he also has this franchise's best interest at heart. One Buffalo baby! Go Bills!

It's funny you say that because I'd like to see us get Scott Linehan off of Dallas for our next OC. Reunite him with Schwartz and if somehow we could get Tom Cable to get thrown into the mix as our OL Coach then I think that we would have the right coaches for the personnel that we currently have.

I agree. I'd rather see the Bills really step up to the plate and get a quality QB, eve if it means that they have to spend another 15+ M to do it.

Do you agree or disagree that they are not putting Spiller out into space and that he should be so he can be more effective? There's no way that this guy should be running into the OL unless they are using zone blocking. -

Yes he did but I still remember that he carried over 1,200+ yards and averaged 6+ yards a carry in a time share just a couple of years ago. -

What "system" is that, the fumbling & stumbling system??! They're both are pretty good at that. Picturing Hackett calling the plays next year and Brown running the ball for him just made me puke in my mouth. -

When you have game breaking speed being effective isn't enough. The guy should be a game breaker and he's not, it's pathetic. It's like using Secretariat for pony rides. -
And I hate them for that probably more than anything else that they did during their time here. Why, why in the world do they consistently try to run him between the Tackles??! Why they don't EVER design plays that gets him out into space is beyond me! It really is and I will never understand it. It's almost like they are trying to run him out of town. I have great questions about that whole Mike Williams thing as well. It's like when they get a big up their ass they just quit on the player. Well as a fan I'm quitting on them (Martone & Hackett). It's Marrone, he has to have these big OL so he can have a power running game and they can't block for ****. We got a QB that can't throw 10 yards accurately and only throws down field when we're desperate and have no choice. Seriously, how many times in a game does Orton throws down the field when he doesn't have to??! When Spiller leaves here, and he will be leaving, it's going to make a lot of people around here sick to their stomachs when they see him blowing up for some other team. It will be the worse salt in the wound of the RBs that we drafted and just let them go for pennies on the dollar. The real bite in the ass here is that we are going to let Spiller leave and get absolutely ZERO for him! What a freaking bad joke is that??!!! Before anyone wants to point out that the guy gets hurt let me say, especially under Marrone's watch, is that the guy gets hurt is because he tries too hard. He's desperate to do do good for us because he loves it here and wants to be a Bill. Am I missing something here??! The guy is the kind of person and played that we want here and our idiots just misuse him and then he gets ran out of town for trying to be what we want him to be! Ha, if I were, and I won't but IF I were to ever turn my back on this franchise Marrone and this thing that I speak of about Spiller would be one of the bigger reason why.

Good, now we can start EJ and sit down this clown Orton.

We need to validate with what we got with EJ. I don't think that he's the answer but I know who's not!
