  1. This would account for the possible trade of Clements to the 'Skins. We would still have a top CB AND a 1st rd pick. If anyone thinks that the Woodson is washed up and can't play, then I believe that they are miscalculating the situation. The Raiders wouldn't tag Woodson if he was done.
  2. With no 1st rd pick this year and a late 2nd, the Bills are not in a position for a top flight prospect. Compound that situation with the possibility of being in a bind come next year with the free agency of Nate Clements, and one can envision a very difficult choice for the Bills. Do we keep and pay Clements? Or is releasing him or tagging him the solution? Who knows, but the future of the CB position is looking a little grim. Well, a top CB doesn't neccessary have to be obtained via the draft and there is a full year before a decision has to be made on Clements. Going by Donahoe's past history, it's not too hard to realize that he anticipates these type of scenarios and prepares for them a year early. Well, that's now. So what will TD do? Well, here's an option and it could prove to be shrewd. Oakland is starting to become very desparate with the Charles Woodson situation and they are ready to come off their demand of two 1st rders and just settle for a 1st rder and a 6th or 7th rder. That is not a very high demand for a quality veteran CB. Could you imagine Buffalo's secondary with Clements, Vincent, Milloy AND Woodson? That's a shut down secondary and would more than compensate for any possible weakness (DT?) with the front 7. I realize that we don't have a 1st rd pick THIS year, but we do NEXT year. There is many variations to this thought. I don't want to be too detailed so I'll try to make it short. a) A win now mentality with a even stronger defense. b) Still have the option of tagging Clements and recoup a 1st rd pick c) With a good to great season, our 1st rd pick next year will be be in the lower half of the draft. A cheaper price to pay. d) TD hasn't been the most successful with late picks. A 6th or 7th rder this year paired with next year's 1st isn't too pricey. e) Eliminates the urgency to draft a CB with a early rd pick. This situation with Woodson and his agent Carl Poston vs the Raiders organization has been very bitter. Both parties are eager to get something done. The salary cap is really starting to restrict the Raiders and Woodson would be more apt to be reasonable so he can get out of there. He's tagged at $10.53 million. That's a 20% increase from last year ($8.816 million). With Clements becoming a FA and a couple of CBs who are projected as early 1st rd picks, what do you think the going price for a top CB will be next year? It would be to Buffalo's benefit to resolve a CB position this year and for the future. There is more positive ramifications that could result from this move but I'll end this post now and hope for some input from the Buffalo faithful.
  3. Hell, why stop at Van den Bosch? Let's grab ALL the white, high motor DEs and take DE Bill Swancutt with our 3rd rd pick. Just kidding around but bringing in Van den Bosch causes me to wonder if maybe Denney is considered tradeable and we are looking for another DE in the draft to groom.
  4. Hey, thanks alot Luisma for providing those links on Brown. That was real nice of ya, I really enjoyed the info. The articles only verify what I was hoping for. I really think a back-up isn't as important as one would think. I've posted before on what I would like to see for a back-up to Willis. This guy sounds exactly like what I was descibing. The best part is Mularkey knows this guy GOOD. It's not like MM was just smitten with him and didn't have any interaction with him. The release of Brown just came down to numbers. I remembered that at the time but I didn't know him or who he was. For me personelly, it's like a unexpected christmas gift. Oh yeah, I think that we can definitely expect our 1st pick to be restricted to just a couple of positions. CBs, C or a big time TE, which one do you all want first?
  5. I really don't care if we get LJ or if in fact we do trade TH. The only thing I want or care about is DRAFT PICKS. Get 'em, I don't care how. People, or should I say the "experts", don't think that this is a very strong draft, or at least in some areas. I think that this year's draft has the type of players that Buffalo needs. I don't care about other teams and I don't care about other positions. Donahoe, get finished what you started. I believe he will. It's time to get deep into the play-offs, anything else is a failure. Forget about the inexperienced QB. We got the players and we got the nucleus. I think that we'll see a big increase of activity of acquiring talent from just before the draft until training camp. TD laid purposely, waiting to see last residual of available talent. This way he didn't have to pay too much and allowed more dollars for the draft. GO BILLS!
  6. Hey input on Brown Luisma, I didn't realize that's who that was. I knew that there were two RBs on Pittsburgh roster last year who had alot of upside. I lost track of Brown and didn't know really anything about him. If I'm not mistaken, Miami was sniffing around about him. After that I didn't hear anything more about him. Do you or anyone else know much about him?
  7. Hey, if Buffalo drafts Baas, I'm all for it. I think the key to this draft is the trade with TH and the swapping of the picks. This will give us so much flexibility, in case we do want to trade anywheres during the draft.
  8. If Buffalo is thinking of Hearst then I'd rather take my chances with Levens. If neither of these backs are serviceable due to age or any other reasons, then I have another suggestion. I looked at the RFAs and it might be a better idea just to use a mid to lower draft pick on one of them. Pittsburgh's RB Verron Haynes seems interesting and it would only cost a 5th rd pick. They may not match the offer. Just a thought.
  9. Good response LABillzFan. I couldn't agree with you more, especially about the Bills loving options. PS what are you drinking?
  10. Trading TH and swapping picks in the 2nd rd may provide variations of options. With the O-line pretty much solidified with acquisition of Shelton and a somewhat early 2nd rd pick, the Bills would be in a much better trading position if they cared to do so. Here is several different formats that could be accomplished. a) The bills at #44 just might be satisfied to sit tight and draft a player that they had conveyed. b) If the Bills have targeted a certain player/position that they want but they need to move up to do so, then they can package the #44th pick with either another draft pick from this year's draft or next year's. Another option would be to package the #44th pick with a current player on the roster. c) If the Bills stand pat at the #44th pick OR package that pick with a player so they can move up in the rd or even into the 1st rd, then they could trade a later rd pick for a RFA for a position of need. Example; If Buffalo is looking for a bruising RB/FB for depth, then Pittsburgh RB Verron Haynes is tagged with a 5th rd compensation. He may be desirable to Mularkey and company. *This scenario is solely used for demostration purposes only. d) As Buffalo Wing posted earlier today, trading down with one of our picks so we could gather extra pick(s) in exchange is also a strong possibility. I just don't believe that if we do acquire the #44th pick that we would trade down with that pick. This pick is definitely going to be used at face value for a targeted player or be used to move forward earlier in the draft. Bottom line is, getting rid of TH/obtaining LJ Shelton AND swapping of the picks is not only a huge shot in the arm, but it's the beginning of a vast amount of flexibility in trading.
  11. They have players that they want to relocate. How bad is Denney? I don't know, but I do know is that he is always battling for the starting position. Anyways, I gave up the crusade. Mark VI showed that it isn't a very good trade for Buffalo. As far as the Colts, well it might not have been enough compensation but I don't think that's it terribly off either. Maybe a pick from next year's draft could make a difference.
  12. Here's a suggestion that might be a little out of the ordinary. I've posted this once or twice before, would experimenting with Josh Reed as a back-up be insane? I ask this question in earnest. He was a RB before and during the draft he was touted as being awesome running after the catch. After 3 years I think he hasn't progressed at catching the ball. Maybe as a RB and one who could possibly catch short passes out of the backfield would be better suited for him. Just a thought, how about some shouts on this scenario.
  13. Thanks for an intelligent response, Labattblue. Do you have any other suggestions for a back-up? I can't think of any decent RBs.
  14. Hey Coach, try not to be so detailed.
  15. With the TH trade looking like it's going to happen, would Levens be a good addition? If not, who should be the back-up to WM?
  16. nodnarb, I would be elated if our draft ends up like that. Who really knows what this Donahoe is going to do. You can bet one thing, he'll be original.
  17. Sadly, I do have to say that when you put it that way, your logic, well just seems aw, er, mmm, well, it's logical? I'm giving up the Matt Jones cause. It's too bad, he'd be perfect in Buffalo. I can't wait for this draft to happen, the suspense is killing me.
  18. Well it all depends if Donahoe wants this guy. I really don't know, but neither does anyone else. TD proved that many times that if he wants somebody, he'll get him. It doesn't matter to him how it looks or what people think. Who campaigned for Mularkey and got him the job? Does Mularkey like slash players? How about the Colts' needs? Is defense a priority? Jones could fill a few positions if he is the athlete that he appears. First, does Buffalo need a TE? I think so. He also could fill a 3rd WR role and a H-Back position. Sounds like it could be a pick well spent. At 6'6" he would be a instant redzone threat. I'm not even going to talk about the slash position and what kind of options he could create, it would be too endless. Move that amputee Josh Reed to a pass catching/back-up RB. Another need in the draft filled. Denney is a back-up and he's what, 27 soon to be 28? He should be a starter by now and he's not and he won't be. He does still has some value, so cash him in while we can. While a CB and more defensive depth may be nice, it's not as critical as providing Losman with insulation. I suspect that Buffalo's 1st pick in the draft, where ever that may be, will be an another offensive weapon for JP. TE is the most obvious need on offense, so this is the position that I expect the Bills to fill first. If this proves to be true, what TE do you think would be worth our 1st pick? I like the creativity that TD has been doing the few years so I guess that I'm just trying to figure out what his next shocking move will be in the draft. I haven't heard too many people coming up with any imaginative scenarios other than the David Baas and other well known OL that will be long gone by the time our first pick comes up at #55. So even if this is all BS, then just enjoy it for the entertainment aspect. If you don't think Jones or any of this is reasonable then I would love to hear what you or anyone else has to say for our 1st pick. The one thing I won't do is to belittle anyone for their thoughts and opinions.
  19. Iagre with ya Pete, that's why i said let's trade with the Colts. You think that Donahoe and Modrak would enjoy beating Pittsburgh AND philadelphia to the punch? That just would be an extra bonus not the theme. It still would be sweet though!
  20. Hey ndirish1978, how ya doin'? Sorry pal, I think that you may be missing the boat on this guy. Philly's eyeballing this guy real good. They are the exact team to select him. Strong defense, decent offense that likes a short passing game. Their TEs are either hurting and/or aging. This guy is perfect for them. I have alot of reasons for wanting the Bills to select him but I'll just say the main one. Mularkey. Here is the kind of coach who would really maximize Jones' abilities and talents. I would love to see a athlete like Jones showcase all of his contributions and not be wasted. Hey, what do I know, this Donahoe is probably going to draft a RB with our 1st pick anyways.
  21. I've thought about Fletcher, but then again I don't know enough about his replacement. The back-up LBs that are on the roster may or may not be capable. Here's a scenario that may be feasible. The first thinng that would have to happen is making the TH/LJ Shelton trade and the swapping of the 2nd rd picks. Once that happens then we could package the #44 pick with Ryan Denney and our 3rd rd pick (#86). In return we would recieve the Colts' 1st rd. pick (#29) and their 2nd rd pick (#60). We then can proceed to take Matt Jones with the 1st rd pick and then select another DE with the #60 pick. There is more than one DE that could be picked at this slot. One that I'd be happy to have on our roster would be Oregon State's Bill Swancutt. This guy's motor never stops. His tenacity and work ethics are just the kind of guy you would want on your team. He's an animal on the field and the Buffalo faithful would go bonkers watching this blue collar workman going at it. Another prospect who could be there at the slot is Virginia's oft-injured Chris Canty. He has a ton of potential and upside. This guy is huge at 6'7". The injuries do scare me though. This could be more than just a whim. The Colts have experimented with shuffling their D-line. They would like to move DE Raheem Brock to DT and relocate DE Robert Mathis to OLB. Denney could be a good addition for the Colts' and be tempting enough for them to contemplate this transaction. We also have good, young prospects in our secondary, but this is a area that we may not afford. I really don't have a good enough idea on who's disposable and who is not. These scenarios are based on nothing other than my opinions, but I only offer these thoughts as a way to show insights as possibilities. I also bring up these ideas so others who have more knowledge than me, which should be many, could be creative in trade scenarios. Of course this is all predicated on Buffalo even wanting Jones in the first place.
  22. I didn't say anything about Travis Henry. I belive that the Arizona trade would have to go down and we swap the 2nd rd picks. With the #44 pick and a defensive player, who I asked for suggestions on, would get us in the neighborhood of value to the Colts. We would still have to add additional draft pick(s) from either this year and/or next year to make this an appealing trade for the Colts. Now, who could we tyrade on defense and with what pick(s) in addition to the #44th pick?
  23. I'm pro-Jones, at ANY pick. The point is he is a extraordinary athlete. He has size, speed, and ability. It's up to whoever drafts him to utilize his talents and for that reason that's why i think Buffalo and Mularkey would be an ideal fit. People have been clamoring for us to draft a O-lineman with our 1st pick. I don't think we will, especially if the TH for LJ trade goes thru. Even if it doesn't I wouldn't be surprise if there is other alternatives in free agency. I do agree and would like if we were to address the need(s) to the secondary (CB & S), LB'er, and back-up RB/WR positions with our 1st pick. But make no mistake about it, this Jones is a special type of athlete. People wonder about his toughness? Not knowing too much about him but just knowing that he's a QB should answer that worry. Did you see the post that nodnarb put up on the highlights of the Jones and other draftees? Jones passed, ran and caught TDs. This is not a one dimensional player. I've posted earlier that this game, athlete, league, strategies, schemes and any other darn thing that has to do with the future evolution of this sport will change. People like Kordel Stewart and Michael Vick have already started this process. Now there's Jones, Adrian Mcpherson and who knows who else is out there that's multi talented. No, I'm a slow learner but I'm starting to realize that when it comes to Donahoe, expect the unexpected. If TD finds a way to trade up and then selects Jones, I won't be upset. I was totally blown away (very upset) when he picked MaGahee, but we see how masterful that truly was. If Jones is our 1st pick, I'll TD the benefit of the doubt this time. He deserves and earned it.
