  1. According to KFFL, the Steelers maybe interested in Womack. I wonder if this will make TD a little more antsy. First they grag Big Ben, now this. How much does spite play into this from both parties (TD and Cower)? Do you think that this sudden interest could spur Donahoe to step up his offer?
  2. 1) Elvis Presley 2) Paul Newman 3) Dean Martin * In their prime of course.
  3. The posts of late seem to be mostly obsessed with what to do with the O-line. The majority of the Buffalo faithful are starting to resemble a lynch mob. When any kind of an O-lineman comes to town this board starts going into a frenzy. Hey, that's a good thing. The Bills have LOYAL, DIEHARD FANS. But I encourage the doubters to hang in there. Review the TD time line. First year the financial aspects of the organization were a total mess. What did ole To Do call it, a salary cap jail? Or "take your lumps now or take'em later?", or something to that effect. I don't blame him, I thought it was a good move. First year lost. Second year, small defensive pieces were added. Nothing to leapfrog ahead on. Important factor(s) established. Purged financial restraints eliminated and a semi step in the right direction on aquiring vital defensive parts. Still had no offense. Third year, a huge QB acqusition. The mass not the minority got super pumped and REALLY started to believe in the future, and had every right to. Exciting games, disappointing season record but we're ready to turn the corner. We got a little bit of defense and paid attention to the offense. HOLD IT RIGHT THERE! We're still a long ways away from having a good, solid contender. Fourth year, TD made the moves to get this team contending. We got the bulk of a good team, especially on defense. The key word here is bulk. There's still things to be added. On defense, things like role players, depth, and smaller areas needed to have better ability. On offense realization came. Does Bledsoe have chinks in his armor? And there's no question here, Reed ain't Price. Everybody thought we were further ahead than we were, and that includes TD & CO. Oh, how we all found out the hard way. There's been at least one constant during this time line, we never had much, if at all, of an O-line. One thing did occur though. TD got his way and got Mularkey. I never change my mind on the fact that this was his plan since he got here or close to it. Fifth year. New rookie coach. What did everybody really expect out of the season? A Super Bowl?! Bledsoe mostly, O-line partly, just aren't good enough. Bye-bye Bledsoe. Bye-bye Jennings. This team evolved! We will get the O-line up and running once and for all THIS YEAR. Count on it! Oh, by the way, there is just one teensy, weensy little drawback. We're starting a REAL young and inexperienced QB. For Buffalo's sake, let's hope that Sam Wyche knows what the hell he's talking about.
  4. When it looked like GB was going to release him and Wahl, I'm sure there were plenty of fans (including myself) who were wanting us to check them out. Well, I don't know about Wahl, but could you imagine if Buffalo did sign Rivera and then find out that he landed up needing back surgery? This board would of erupted like Mt. Etna. He's 32, how fast or effective do you think he's gonna be? Well the FA signings may not appear to be plentiful nor quick enough, but it's just another indication that TD & CO. do have targeted certain individuals to implement in their future schemes. Reasons that shouldn't be overlooked in our player selections is the talent evaluation of our coaches. When it came to the QB Buffalo had the courage to not only release Bledsoe, but didn't even have any insurance on the roster. You could technically say Matthews, but I don't believe that's what they were banking on. Even if Matthews were to stay I do feel that they were still planning on a Holcomb type move. They knew Bledsoe's glory days were in the past. I truly believe that the input from Mularkey and Clements prompted this decision. The amazing thing is that the Bills didn't scramble for has been QBs. QBs like the likes of Garcia, Warner, B. Johnson and the other " I used to be somebody". As far as the O-line is concern, they did the same type of bold move. They let go of Jonas Jennings with no heir apparently insight. Well, I for one believe in Jim McNally. Not because I'm an expert but because of his track record. You think that they just let their LT walk away and not have an idea for a replacement? Either JJ was not as good as the majority thinks he is or he just wasn't worth the $$$ that it would take to keep him. Or better yet, a combination of both. They have better and more cost efficent plans for our O-line. I'm really starting to see TD's cloakn dagger moves. Look at the D-line. We drafted Tim Anderson last year and the following year it's bye-bye Pat Williams. Not even a negotiation. Here's a guy that was a home favorite. You think Tim Krumrie didn't evaluate PW's worth? Or had enough faith in Ron Edwards/ anderson abilities? I'll tell ya what, if we sign or draft a big time SS this year you can kiss Milloy good-bye. Keep in mind how TD finagled compensation for Peerless Price. What a brilliant move that was! Bottom line is this. If the player(s) either want huge $$$ or aren't producing at a high level, then you can just count the days before they are expunged from the roster. Does anyone care to make a prediction on who the next big name may be next? I already made mind (Milloy). How about somebody else jump in and use a little forsight. One last comment. If anybody wants or hopes that we get Porkchop, then you better hope that TD pitched him the idea that he would be playing LT. That would command more $$$ than the G position. With GB looking for Gs that could be our inside track in obtaining him. I believe Seattle a) isn't fixed too well on money, b) they have their LT also, so it's G duty for him there too, and c) can't or won't give him a full time starting position. They've mostly used him in back-up or spot fill in. Buffalo's offer just may be more lucrative for Ole Porkchop.
  5. I beg to differ. There's plenty of deadwood that can be chopped and restructuring of contracts that could go on. Granted, I don't understand all the nuances of salary cap/contracts, but if there's a will then there's a way. If teams like Tampa, Oakland and even last year's San Diego can find ways to sign high profile players, then someone as clever as TD can find a way. The return on a player like EJ could translate in either draft picks or current veteran players who could fill needs for us, then this could be the value move.
  6. I want to revive and amend this post with a different twist to it. With the Colts now willing to trade James, then why not to us? Give them TH and a reasonable draft choice from either this year or next's. Now I know the knee jerk response is going to be " You're crazy, why would we do that when we got WM?". Well there would be several benefits to doing this. 1) We get rid of TH 2) I'm sure the Colts wouldn't object to another decent RB 3) The cost of the draft pick wouldn't be too early coupled with TH 4) This is a TD type move, trading for a better value for the future/ the Edge would be more marketable than TH and we'll get a higher return value. 5) Self protection/ making sure that the team he lands up with after we trade him doesn't become detrimental to us (Miami). Look, if Miami is going to get a high profile RB then it's gonna be Shaun Alexander. The terms for those 2 teams are more beneficial for each of them. Once the option of not going to Miami is killed then EJ may be more willing to consider someone like Buffalo. TD's best ability just might be his closing skills. Couple that with WM (another University of Miami alumni) and this guy may be abled to be wooed. Teams that would be interested in a RB obviously don't have one to trade back, just draft(s). Well, we have them too. That should give us the inside track. Oh, one more thing. Let me get my suit of armor on before you all start with your reponses. OK I'm ready. Ready, aim fire!
  7. At one time he was good enough for Brett Farve. He's got great speed and I'm tired of waiting on Reed who has no "hands". He should be a rather cheap addition. Should we or shouldn't we?
  8. Not even a response on this post. How sad. I'm not even gonna bother to make a separate post on this but looking thru some of these teams and there are some teams that are not only in salary cap jail, but are lifers in Sing-Sing! I think the worst is the Redskins. They have something like 18.8% used on the cap with players that are no longer on the team!!! Throw in Brunell and some other deadwood and their at like 25%. What a waste. Then there are other teams that are just robbing Peter to pay Paul. Teams like Tampa, Oakland (geez, see any similiarity there?), and Seattle. There's others that are strapped and don't have alot of leeway. I don't know, I'm sure I'm missing others. It takes alot of time that I don't, I just wanted to bring up the point. Maybe somebody can be more specific and/or accurate on these and other teams. These teams probably have the best opportunity for us to maraude not only their FAs, but also their RFAs. There could be a great value there for a very late round draft pick. * The bonehead that I am, I overlooked the LS's full name. It's Kevin Houser.
  9. Aw dude, you did it this time. You're gonna get blasted on this hypothetical post. If you're gonna be hypothetical, then do it on a solution not a potential problem. This board is unmerciful. good luck!
  10. I don't care what you know or who, quit the swearing on the board.
  11. Land of the Giants. You know the scene I'm talking about, where Norwood choked to death and went wide right.
  12. The Saints' LS is a 6 year veteran that would make a great utility/depth player. He's multi talented and could fill and/or back-up several positions. If Dorenbos really has a career ending injury, then Houser could fill that role. In addition he's a very solid ST'er and he could also fit into our TE formations. It also is a benefit that he could possibly back-up Teague or whoever our C is going to be. This seems to be the ideal kind of guy that Mularky likes. The Patriots have shown the way to the benefits of having multi task football players. Heck, this guy might even be able to be an H-Back. On the same line of thought, Womack is another versatile O-lineman. He's played every position on the line except C. Right now Seattle has him at RT but he's probably better suited for the G position. He has quick feet and he's talented. In addition we have McNally and even further enhances the abilities of a player like this. Who knows, we may even be able to keep him at RT and move Mike Williams to the left side of the ball. Based on if we don't get Shelton this would give us more options.
  13. I don't think that it's a big priority where we would have to use a 1st day pick on it but grabbing a nice sleeper with a late rounder (5th or later) wouldn't be too hateful. Here's two suggestions based on stats that are attractive. The first one being Maine's Christian Pereira. Close to 6'4"/227 lbs., he's quite a load. His last 2 years (jr.& sr.) were almost identical. In '03 he had 52 recs / 820 yds. / 10 tds. with an 15.8 yd. avg. He followed up in '04 with 58 recs / 818 yds. / again 10 tds. with a 14.1 yd. avg. Also his hometown is the Bronx. He has the makings of being western N.Y.'s kind of guy. Here's another guy that could be a bigger sleeper than Rip Van Winkle. Valparaiso's Rob Giancola (if you're from N.Y., ya gotta love that name). He's just shy of 6'/219 lbs. He's got impressive stats but in '03 he was off the charts. 57 recs / 1496 YDS.!!! / 23 FREAKING TDS. (that's approaching McGahee type #s)/ with a whopping 26.2 yd. avg. I would just like us to solidify our O-line first, develope more depth at SS and LB, and I don't know who this 3rd string QB is, but if the administration isn't absolutely crazy about him then spending a 4th or 5th rounder on grooming another QB with potential for down the road might not be a bad idea. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this year's draft and season.
  14. I don't know if this post is getting lost in the mix or if it just out and out blows, but I was hoping to get a little play on it to see some creativity until the draft. The night crew on this board can be tough, maybe the daytime crew will be more active. Either way, I hope our wildest expectations are going to be exceeded this year. Go Bills!
  15. Look, this was meant only to create some fun and explore the imagination. I think there is a very small (if at all) percentage of people on this board that KNOWS anything on the status of player personnel/contracts, salary cap/signing bonuses and front office/player satisfaction. In this league, how many times in this league have you seen the impossible accomplished? Contracts and such CAN be overcomed. How about administration/player contentment? Example; Jonas Jennings SUPPOSED desire (ran so fast at the 1st big contract offered to him) to stay in a Bills' uniform and TD & CO. not even talking to him. Can ANYBODY REALLY explain that freaking mess?!!! On another note, I never said I wanted to trade NC. I said that there's been alot of talk lately on trading him. If that were the case, Iwould like to see a return on one of our best players, especially that it's such an important position and we don't have great depth there. So let's make this REAL remedial so nobody is confused, angered or derogatory. Let's pretend that this is a perfect world and there is no cancer, crime or world hunger. OK? Now, is everybody warm and fuzzy? Oh, let's add no ifs, ands, or buts in this perfect little world. Thanks. PS Thanks Losman-McGahee-Evans and the few others who responded to the TRUE spirit of this post.
  16. I don't know if it's true, but there seems to be alot of talk of trading CB Nate Clements lately. Either because of his future contract vs value or simply because the Bills may feel like they can upgrade at this position. I just don't know enough about this situation BUT if Buffalo does in fact want to trade him, this is what I'd like to see. First, I would trade him and Travis Henry to Arizona for L.J. Shelton and their 1st round pick (#8) in this year's draft. Secondly, I would then package that 1st round pick with our own 3rd round pick(#86) to Oakland for CB Charles Woodson and their 2nd round pick(#38). That would move us up 48 slots! With Oakland's 2nd round pick I would then draft Michigan's SS Ernest Shazor. There has been some talk that Detroit has a strong interest in him and they have the 41st pick. When it's all over and done with, Buffalo rids itself of Henry, gets a LT, replaces it's CB (hopefully an improvement) and grooms the successor to Lawyer Milloy. Thoughts, comments or opinions? Otherwise, what would be your scenario?
  17. How 'bout GB's David Martin? He's big, strong and athletic. He's a hugh receiver. Only problem is he seems to be injured more than I would like to see. Never know if being put on an injury list isn't just a roster move at times. Just in case get the good doctor that checked out Willis and see what his health status looks like. On another note. Not to pick on GB, but I wonder what it would take to get that RFA/RT Kevin Barry? Not quite sure how all that restricted free agency works, but if memory serves me correctly, Spikes and Lindell were RFAs and we got them.
  18. The new regime is concern with the weight loss of Faine. We may be better off just staying away.
  19. OT Michael Munoz. McNally most certainly helped his father to a HOF career. A T with great footwork. I'm sure Anthony won't object to him coming to Buffalo. Maybe we could get an Archie Manning type influence to go in our favor.
  20. I don't believe it. IF Ty Law is to be added I would think McGee would be the nickel/STer. The secondary would then be; SS- Milloy FS- Vincent CB- Clements CB- Law Nickel- McGee Then would be one awesome secondary, but I for one am getting sick of all these Patriot cast-offs. At 30 something years old that's still in a wheelchair and wearing a boot, I just don't see it.
  21. Seems like the latest pulse on this board is of doubt, fear and unhappiness with what is going on in FA. "How can TD let our best lineman get away" or something like that. Or another one was "fill a hole and spring another leak", referring to the evolution of the O-line. Granted, we all want results YESTERDAY, but it doesn't work like that in this day and age of the salary cap. Others criticize the draft picks underachieving. There isn't a team in the WHOLE league that has complete success with each and every pick in the draft. Sure some of ours haven't panned out but look at some of our other solid STARTERS. The same goes for our trades. At least we got a GM that got the courage to keep swinging the bat and not be content with doing nothing. Personnel changes all the time and each player has different strengths and abilities. Damn! I'm at work and I'm not able to finish this train of thought. Maybe a couple of you can pick up the vibe and finish this post. ( Why do I feel like I'm gonna be sorry for asking for that?). Let's try to keep a positive attitude about the future of our team. Go Bills!
  22. Geez, you think Villiareal had any input? This McNally sucks! Maybe we can replace him with some of these "experts" that we have on this board. Seems like those idiots in the front office at 1 Bills Drive don't know what the hell they're doing.
  23. Just as a potential back-up ( not sure about the $$$ or having better ability), but how about Ron Dayne and/or William Green? Troy Hambrick may be available also.
