In other topical news unrelated to Chef Jim's gut, Congress today barely passed a new spending measure. Why did it "barely" pass? Because in the process of proposing to spend 190 Billion dollars, the bill got shaved by 40B and the House could barely swallow that cut. Weight loss can be achieved through a few ways but simply: if you burn more calories than you consume, your weight will decrease. (This is a solid thread hijack BTW.)

That was one of his asshattiest moments in all this. No **** plug the hole. As if BP wants more oil to leak out, costing more $$ in cleanup and remuneration, not to mention $$ lost because the oil can't be collected. Calling the oil companies to account for not having a better plan to deal with this--a predictable problem--is something he should be doing today, tomorrow, and for a while.

On the weight loss thing, eating well is how you get healthy but to lose weight, you pretty much just need to eat less. I was 6-2 195 a few years ago...not fat by any means but definitely carring more weight than I needed to and am now 6-2 175. I used Lose It (an iPhone app) and just counted my calories to lose the lbs. Lots of free internet calorie counters--one is at the livestrong site. To me, that's the only way to lose weight. I still have cheese. I still go for ice cream now and then. I drink a beer or two. But I know that a bowl of ice cream is about 1/3 of my daily calorie goal of about 1800 (which I find is about my break-even point...if I don't workout). Those programs also estimate calories burned from working out. I don't use that--I look at my workouts as making up for all the times I eat a little extra. Staying thin is funny. I'd always like to have more food and be 100% full. But I don't do it. The Japanese have some saying like "Eat until you feel 75% full and then stop to stay healthy." That sounds about right.

I KNEW this would play out like this. The Cliff Notes version is that the White House just offered him a job. Not to get him out of the race...it just so happens that withdrawing from the race would be a consequence if he accepted. It's dirty pool but unless someone has a memo from Obama titled "Let's offer Joe this job so he'll drop out of the race," they will be able to "It depends on what is is" their way out of this. All this will help Sestak because he refused to go along and won. He's now looking like the ultimate OUTsider because Washington didn't want him.

This is !@#$ing awesome. The truth is that great teachers are national treasures and there are not many of them. And many are not that bright. And lazy. And suck. But want national treasure pay. It's why a teacher's union is so stupid. The best teachers should be getting paid like it. and the rest should be getting the ****ty pay they deserve for doing a ****ty job. I have no problem paying a great 7th grade teacher 150K/year...but I have a huge problem paying 2 "going through the motions" 7th grade teachers 75K/year. If you send your kid to public schools, don't expect much.

That Donte's max squat is 405 bothers me a helluva lot more than any other part of that. I never "max" out my squats but before a recent injury, I did 50 reps twice a week at 305...and I'm a 6'2" 175 lb 39yo guy. I could probably max out at a stone throw from 405 and be at 405 in no time if that was my goal (it's not especially not post torn hamstring tendon). Now granted I have strong legs compared to a lot of people but I'm not an Olympic lifter and I'm not a pro athlete. I just work out a lot, cycle, and play a lot of basketball. That an NFL player is about a strong as me in any lifting category is a sad indictment of the team's training regimen. I'm glad to hear it's changing. And I am a firm believer in the squat. It's not as hard on the knees if proper form is used and no NFL player should be doing ANYTHING in the weight room that hurts their knees.

The government does a fine job making money off sports gambling in Vegas. And a better job making money off tobacco and OH taxes. The government would certainly make money off pot. Tons of money. Because sure, you can grow it yourself, but I've gotta think a pot industry would come up with better product. Tax revenue isn't the issue. The only real issue is motherment. No politician nationally wants to be the pro-pot guy.
