I heard that segment on Howard and have zero interest in watching the trailer, even from a curiousity persepctive. I think they should arrest the person who thought of that. The people who directed it. And All the actors in it. Frankly, you should be arrested for linking to it.

How has the Oil Spill affected your life?
John Adams replied to murra's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Gues what: The Holocaust would have had little effect on my life as an American either but that doesn't mean I don't condemn it and believe it was good to intervene. The Haiti mess didn't affect me but I gave money because it was right. 9-11 didn't affect me besides a blip in my 401K and yet I took action. On a smaller scale, reusable plastic bottles are not great for the environment so I try not to use them. This may not end up with long term consequences (Seems doubtful) but you know what: If you pollute 5000 gallons a day into the ocean for a month because you obviously had ****ty safety systems or people overlooked them, you won't get my support. You think that's wrong? So be it. The world is bigger than that which bumps into your day-to-day life. -
I went to bed at the half but he played possessed in the first half. At one point, he scored, broke up a corner, and cut off two passes in a span of about 2 minutes. I was shocked to see the highlight of the breakaway goal--terrible play. In any event, just like everyone has been saying, the defense is awful. They gave up way too many opportunities in deep and were consistently beaten.

NY Times (really!) discusses

I am in the Megyn Kelly fan club. I actually find her mid-afternoon shift engaging. Probably the most watchable timeslot on Fox for me. Plus she went on Howard Stern a few weeks ago. That always gives someone cred in my book. -

Feets don't fail me now. If I was on my last drop of gas, guess I'd go to BP but that ain't happening. -

It may never directly affect any of us but that doesn't mean we can blithely turn a blind eye to it. I wouldn't buy BP gas (to the extent I can identify BP as the source) because frankly, this whole thing is a cluster!@#$ and I believe in blame. -

Here's a talk about this: http://www.ted.com/talks/craig_venter_unve...tm_medium=email -
It's another unexplained oddity.

In the supernatural vein, I'd add True Blood and echo what you listed (minus Californication and Hung, neither of which capture me). For shows in the last decade, Deadwood (Shakespearean western) and The Wire are awesome. Lost is one of the better network shows that I've ever seen. Up there with West Wing and because I'm a Sci Fi geek, probably more fun for me.

Tgreg, excellent post: thanks for sharing. I still have questions but as I said even in my first post, I am a fan of the characters getting their resolution and feeling that it's resolved. Also a huge fan of the entire Sideways world scenes...it was a poignant way to say goodbye to all the characters that we've gotten to know over the last 6 years. Again, can't say enough about how touching the Jin/Sun see Sawyer scene was. The evil plug is not something I'll ever particularly enjoy in the LOST plot. Same with the MIB/Jacob/CJ plotline.

There is that. Hotties=credible. -
There are a bunch of unanswered questions in just this thread. Here's a simple one: why women can't have babies...unless they're Claire or the twin's mom?

That was Duey's dream of heaven...helping Evangeline with her quick change.

Do you understand that Fox does well not because it's better? -
The problem is that there was so little explained that every person saw it a LOT differently and thus any discussion of the zillion open items is just a waste of time because no one has a clue...most notably not even the writers. Anyone can write a story with a million Dickensonian twists and turns. It takes a Charles Dickens to gather the strings into a satisfying ending.

"Questions will NOT be answered."
-
Let's just stick with one thread of questions and answers to keep it simple. So if the Dharma and Others were part of Jacob's plan, who's Jacob? And what is his plan. And what is the Island vs. what is Sideways? Is the Island real in our universe or some after-life? Were Dharma people from here or afterlife? And if from here, how did they interact with dead Oceanic 815 people? Not attacking but guessing anything you post will be speculation. And that's just one of the gigantic plotholes left open. I would like to be able to look back and see things in previous seasons and say, "Aha, that's why taht strange plot twist now makes sense." But really, you can't do that much. Why was the Island on the bottom of the ocean?! Come on man: There were a lot of friggin' HUGE things completely unexplained.
-
I am fine with not everything being answered, but it's not satisfying that most and even the most important questions are not answered. It was OK that the Sopranos didn't show what happened to Tony in the diner. But we knew what the point of the show so leaving that one detail open was not the end of the world. Basically, no one can explain the point of LOST. Or the island. Or the sideways. No one. It's not like all they left open was why some people didn't get into the church or weren't ready...they left open the biggest questions. We spent multiple season with Dharma. No one knows WTF that is. We spent seasons teased by Others. No one can explain them. There's a stopper in an evil opening. No one knows WTF that is. Sideways is...who knows? Flash forwards were...who knows? It's not as if *some* of the breadcrumb trails led to home...they almost all lead to nowhere. And the only thing that makes it OK is that the writers made the characters OK with it.

Health Care Reform?
John Adams replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Most of the changes are in the future. The bills was structured that way for a reason. First the law. Then the changes. Then the bills come due. By the time we're at step 3, you can't unwind the law. (See Social Security.) -
Let's get something straight: The writers created a legion of breadcrumb trails that lead nowhere. That's annoying. The only reason it "worked" last night is because the characters where satisfied with what was happening. From a storytelling perspective, that's good. But they did not give answers to some of the biggest questions. For example, not a person here can explain the island light and stopper. Or the island itself. Or the Dharma initiative. Or the flash forward season. Or the Others. Or Jacob and MIB and guardians. Or the smoke. Or what the pre-church sideways world was all about. Or what was Jack doing at the end in the bamboo forest (seemed to be gearing up for the Island part of the show to start again, not end). And on and on. I enjoyed it, only because I felt like the characters were pleased. The scenes where the satisfied people were meeting each person who had yet to be enlightened were really sweet and full of love. Each of those was touching, the best for me being Sun and Jin seeing Sawyer.

When the NY Times starts running these articles, it's really a chink in the armor of the left/socialists. Reality is catching up to Europe. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/23/world/eu...mp;ref=homepage

Outrage: Union Pension Bailouts are Coming

The government bailed out the companies and assumed the risk: How would anyone know if they sucked at their jobs? Government intervention. -

If you get 6% return on your investments, adjusted for inflation, over a long period, you have crushed the market. CRUSHED it. -
I didn't watch the whole clip but I think it's fine for Obama to say he's unhappy with BP. He should be, even if they do pay for the entire cleanup. Obama's anti-business rhetoric as a whole is the real problem.

Outrage: Union Pension Bailouts are Coming
John Adams replied to 1billsfan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Truthometer Readings: 1. The banks paid back the bailout money.--TRUE AND FALSE...the biggest offender AIG will never pay it back and they were the worst offender, and are still bleeding money 2. $165 billion in taxpayer dollars vs $0 in taxpayer dollars. --TRUE 3. California, New York, New Jersey and the US are all broke.--TRUE 4. Unions need to wake and and realize this isn't the 1950s we're living in.--TRUE 5. US taxpayers will not stand for bailing out ridiculous fat cat union contracts so that they can sit on their fat lazy asses.--FALSE...sorry, taxpayers don't complain much about spending increases, only spending cuts.
