Allegiance? To city, country, or planet? Are you serious that you find that question poses "no problem?" The monopoly question seems about the only straightforward question in the list. "Restrictions on housing development make housing less affordable" depends on a million factors. Restrictions on housing like "unlimited numbers of multi-unit projects can be bult in the xxx area code" makes housing cheaper for everyone because property values go down...while the opposite regulation "no projects" drives property values up. And there are a million examples like this just with this question. It's a ****ty question. I *know* what they are driving at but the question sucks and I'd have a hard time choosing "agree" even though generally I might. With questions like that and "allegiance to planet," I'd have to question their conclusions EVEN THOUGH my gut tells me their conclusions are probably right. But that study does nothing to verify those conclusions. All that study concluded, to me, is that Libertarians and most likely to agree with people who look at economics the way Libertarians do. Yeah. No ****.

The questions on that test were dumb and no test of economic knowledge but mostly in fact just questions of economic ideology. As measures of ideology, it's no surprise that Libertarians scored right (since the "right" answers were Libertarian). I agree with the Libertarian answers BTW but I'd be hard-pressed to give a "right" or "wrong" stamp on most of those statements and it's a shame that the WSJ, probably my favorite newspaper, believed that this study was newsworthy. And who the !@#$ knows what THIS question is. This is an "or" question? I don't find this study fascinating. I find it retarded. In exactly the way that offends someone (I forget who) on this board.

I like the some of the Android phones--especially the new ones--but honestly, the new iPhone looks better to me + I have iPhone momentum. That's not a "dig" on the Android phones. I can see why people like them. At this point, it's tamatoes vs tomatoes.

I bet it's available once Verizon upgrades from its CDMA network to LTE. There's no way Apple is making a new phone for CDMA when Verizon will be throwing CDMA to the curb in 2011.

I don't see much of a gap in the phones between iPhones and the competition anymore. The HTC and Droid basically have closed the gap and made it so that the anti-AT&T people have viable alternatives. 2 years ago, the iPhone was the best phone out there hands down. Now people can get what they want. I will get another iPhone because I am invested in the platform but the second some game-changer comes along and is a lot better, I'll probably follow it. This latest iPhone is a pretty natural and unsurprising evolution in the iPhone. What people complained about for the last 2 years is now in the phone--and they gave it a few cool tweaks in the screen and gyroscope.

I am just dying to be more tech literate in my phone. Computers and phones are tools. The best are often the easiest to use.

I don't talk about investing because it's not wise on a message board. I just bring up gold because it's on topic. If we were in a thread about the relative merits of some company I own, I might (or might not) bring them up too. I said before that I don't trust gold much and have it on a short leash but I'll be damned if it doesn't keep heading up. I watched a lot of things go up in crazy multiples in the tech boom but I had little money then and just rode the general wave (both up and down) in the mutual funds I owned in my 401K.

Currencies down = Gold up. I get that. But when push comes to shove, as GG points out, gold isn't "worth" much except as a good conductor and making jewelry. It's a currency hedge because people think it is but no one will ever use gold as currency ever again.

We can have a good laugh about it now that bbb is gone.

This summarizes my view perfectly. I own one of the gold funds because it's making money...not because it makes sense. And explain to me why gold goes up up up lately while other metals don't.

Without verifying it, I read the other day that C is one of the highest volume stocks these days. Unbelievable that it's turned into a borderline penny stock from it's mighty pedestal. My issue with gold is that there's almost none of it. It's not useful. And I doubt people are going to start moving it around as a currency. I'm not so dumb as to not be in it. Over the last year, I wish I was more "in it" but I still watch it warily.

I went to a store today and gave them 1 lb of gold for a hoagie. They wouldn't take it. Goold luck for me and my lb of gold. The analysis that doesn't paralyze me is that I've got a nice chunk of money in gold because it's doing well. The part that mystifies me is not why people would rather be in gold than currencies--currencies are a nightmare right now--but why people would rather be in gold than companies.
