I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion about this. IMO we need a LB more than DL. Maybe people have lost interest in the offseason because we're not in the midst of a spending spree?

I think the OP's question will be determined by our ability to get some better linebackers. Rex's system thrives when it has good linebacker play whereas Schwartz is geared more towards the D-line pressure. Our LBs are not up to snuff and I would rather have someone other than Brown calling the shots in the middle. IMO we need a NT and an ILB in the worst way.

Sometimes you have to cut players you like when you're not getting a good ROI. McKelvin is out because Darby is awesome and $4M is way too much to pay a backup. Now hopefully we can re-sign Gilmore and keep our top 2 CBs as a solid tandem for years to come.

I guess it depends on if you're a team guy or someone who likes to root for players. I'm a team guy so I don't really care if the guys are arrogant jerks or say stupid things. I draw the line at morons who are likely to be suspended, which hurts the team, or scumbags who I just don't want living in my community; Galette/Hardy are the latter. Some people want everyone to be a super-nice role model type person, I don't fall in that crowd. Incognito is a good example: bit of a meathead/douchebag and not someone you'd want to hang out with probably, but he's good on the field and doesn't seem like he would be a negative to have on the team as a whole.

I don't think it's unfair to hold Rex to the same critical standard that Chip Kelly was held to last year. While Rex has a longer track record of success in the professional ranks with his "system", it's difficult not to argue that he values that system above tailoring a defense to it's strengths. Much like Kelly, Rex came into a town that was fairly successful on the side of the ball they purported to be an expert in. Much like Kelly, Rex's team underperformed compared to the recent past. If the Bills aren't back in the top 10 on D and make the playoffs this year I don't think it's an overreaction to call for his firing.

I'm so upset about this. The PFT report that he was not even offered a chance to stay for reduced compensation made me furious. Our locker room is full of character question marks and we just jettisoned our biggest role model.

I may be missing context here, but I think it's pretty unfair to say the two are mutually exclusive. I do not support the front office in this move, but to say that I am now unsupportive of the team is pretty bogus and a misstatement of the fact.
