Actually, in every game you'll see a couple of times where the clock hits 0 and no flag is immediately thrown and the ball is snapped. Happens all the time. Usually not as long as it was in the titans game, but it does happen quite often.
-
Hey, remember when we were 5-1?

Who would have thought that when sitting at 4-0, the only games we'd win the rest of the season were the ones against AFC west teams. -
Haddad was good. He finished his career with 1 catch for 11 yards.
-
The video is 4 minutes long and they wanted to accurately simulate the season. So at the quarter pole, it starts to suck.

5' tall and 275 is a damn wrecking ball.

Good call. everyone knows bowl game performance is directly linked to success in the NFL. Just like how its wise to make assumptions on a player from watching a single game.

What scared me was that Chris Brown was trying to sell the fact that we only play 7 games against 3-4 defenses next season instead of 9 as a "positive" for 2009. OBD has the attitude not of "we'll figure it out," but one of "we'll get our asses kicked fewer times next year by this defense we can't figure out."

Good call. there idiots B word about the "carbon footprint" of a google search, but love to ignore the fact that i get no less than 7 phone books (which i never use) delivered to my townhouse every year.

If you knew him, you'd realize his man card has long since been revoked.

And that was a piss poor decision on the part of bills management.

I'll give indy a 3rd if they'll take Jauron.

Agreed. The NFL is very full of itself. God forbid a player do a dance after scoring a TD or have the wrong shade of shoe color, but critical calls? what the heck, its not necessary. I reallydont see what the problem would be in installing these 2 technologies (how amazing, technology!) 1. Install a system that detects when the ball has crossed the plane of the goalline. You've been able to buy an invisible fence that shocks a dog for 15 years now, but the NFL can't develop a system that senses when the ball touches the goalline? 2. As stated previously in this thread, use some type of buzzer for the play clock. Somehow the NFL has managed to rig the wireless helmet mikes for QBs to shut off at 15 seconds left, but they can't rig a wireless buzzer on the backjudge that goes off when the play clock hits zero? Then he just has to watch the ball and when the buzzer is heard/felt, toss the flag. But no, the NFL will continue to tell its fans that they will like everything that is given to them, and that there's nothing wrong with the system or officials.

i voted for the fireguy and nail chick.

I'm waiting for them to release the 90 minute "friday highlight" video.

I'm not terribly excited about not having some competition for him. However, if he were to win the starting job in camp, then he should start the season. Same deal as it was with JP. You get or win the job, you get the season.
-
I like this guy's idea... (from the comments in the article)
-
You really do have this strange obsession with JP Losman. Again, (and this is probably the 435th thread) you have taken a topic that has nothing to do with the bills former QB and brought him up. When you're out having beers with friends, do you sit there and lament over and over again about the girl in 10th grade that dumped you, too?

I agree that a better system needs to be in place. However, look at the video on youtube. The play clock hits 0 at 2:53 left, and the ravens snap the ball with 2:52 left. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLYw8jEEixY

guess you got me! And no, the backjudge cannot see both the ball and the play clock at the same time. The definition of the rule requires him to look from ball to clock back to ball. That takes time, and he cannot "estimate" when the clock hits 0. He has to see the clock hit 0, then check to see if the ball was snapped. If it wasn't, out comes the flag. If you want to argue that a better system is needed, that's fine. But dont sit there and act like the backjudge can see everything at the same time and toss a flag at the instant the clock hits 0. And again, that play had little to do with the titans losing.

Gordio has once again decided to put his stupidity on display, which is why it matters.
-
Now you're beyond ridiculous. Theres no possible way the backjudge can watch both the ball and the play clock. It takes a split second to look back and forth. One could easily say that the time it took to glance from the ball (between 2500lbs of OL and DL) up to the jumbotron, and then back down to the ball was the amount of time over that the ravens took to snap the ball. And it shouldn't have any effect on the play. Players are taught from the age of 4 to play until you hear the whistle, not to slack off and hope a penalty is called. Refs make mistakes. One was made here, but it isn't the end of the world. The titans could have stopped that play, and they could have made a dozen other plays throughout the game and they would have won. The titans lost because they got beat, not because the refs missed a delay fo game penalty by a second. It is completely asinine to blame the titans loss on the missed delay of game. If they had stopped the play, like a "top defense" is supposed to, we aren't having this conversation today.
-
Since your reading comprehension is subpar, here you go. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs2008...tory?id=3826899 So now the ref is supposed to watch the ball and the jumbotron simultaneously? Read the rule. When the backjudge sees the clock hit 0, he's supposed to look and see if the ball is being snapped. If it is, there is no penalty. If not, he throws the flag. Perhaps if Tennessee had a play clock at field level, the ref would have been a fraction of a second faster and it would have been a penalty. In either case, the penalty had no bearing on the play. Its not like the titans defense stood up and walked to the huddle when the play clock hit 0. They had every chance to make a play on 3rd down and didn't. They should be blaming themselves, NOT the officials. Its not like the ravens got away with a facemask or blatant hold or pass interference. Delay of game doesn't impact the current play. That being said, i agree with the posters above who said that a buzzer or horn or some type of signal would be a better method of judging when the clock hit 0.
-
You see it time and time again because the backjudge can't both watch the ball being snapped and the play clock, dumbass. It takes 1-1.5 seconds to go from watching the ball to looking at the play clock (especially if it is up on the jumbotron) to go back to looking at the ball. They snapped the ball about 1-1.5 seconds after the clock hit 0.

The scariest part of that statement is that the Bills brass has trent entrenched as the starter.

Well, Considering Eli has his best statistical season this year, its kinda tough to call him a bust. He cut his INT's in half and improved his completion % while throwing for the same number of yards on 50 fewer attempted passes. Eli has developed into a very good starting QB. Sure, Rivers may be better, but both are heads and shoulders above anything currently on our roster.
