Yes, lets compare stats between Ryan and Cassel. I guess we live in the make believe world where newengland* and Atlanta are similar franchises and each QB has the same great supporting cast. As for cassel, lets see them franchise him. Because as soon as he signs the tender, they're on the hook paying him 14 million. At that point he becomes untradeable.

Should the U.S. Gov't fund basic scientific reasearch?
Ramius replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I agree with you that some science funding is wasted money for research that is going nowhere. But, the very least you could do is back up some of the claims you made, because not all money is wasted and it is highly necessary. And just because some is wasted doesn't mean all is wasted. I'm agreeing with you that lots of stupid stuff gets funded that probably shouldn't be. But i'm disagreeing that funding needs to be cut because some gets wasted. I called you out because instead of backing up your claims, you resorted to insulting Coli and making accusations. When someone questions your claims, it shouldn't be too difficult to back them up. -

How exactly is someone asking you to prove what you spew, "riding the gravy train?" If you're going to make sh-- up, at least be able to back up your point. -
Athletes and children with diseases/disabilities
Ramius replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup. This post sums it up. They are in the spotlight, so you hear about everything. No one is going to report when your landscaper neighbor Joe's kid has autism. But they will if Joe happens to play a professional sport. -
Seriously.... Whos worth our 11th pick?
Ramius replied to The_Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The only players worth the #11 pick are the 10 players that are taken before us. -
In this supposed fantasy basketball game, which would appear to be similar to GLB (no i didnt click your link), can my players rape, rob, and murder people to get extra points? That's the only true way you can simulate the NBA.

Re #2, the girl on the island is Ellie, and the old lady is Eloise Hawking. Ellie = Eloise isn't a stretch at all.

Should the U.S. Gov't fund basic scientific reasearch?
Ramius replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I wish i could say he's exaggerating but he's not. I've mentioned this before, but i have a peer-reviewed, published paper from 3-4 years ago in a decent journal that is titled, "Oxygen and nutrient depravation of cells in culture leads to cell death." Yes, this group of dipshits actually published a paper stating that if you starve cells of nutrients and oxygen while growing them, they die. -
I think Rian Lindell will not be back next year.

Cash 2 Cap has no real application to the salary cap. Its a cheap way of the Bills trying to look like they are spending top dollar, without actually doing so. The NFL will amortize any signing bonus over the length of the deal for cap purposes. All that money is paid up front, however. Here's an example of a player who signs a 4 year deal with a 26 million dollar deal with an 8 million signing bonus. Salaries are 3,4,5,6 million. The 8 million is paid up front to the player. The NFL sees this deal as this year 1 - 3 million base + 2 million bonus amortization - 5 mil against the cap year 2 - 4 + 2 = 6 year 3 - 5+2 = 7 year 4 - 6 + 2 = 8 mil against the cap. The Bills mark it on their own books as this year 1 - 3 million base + 8 million signing bonus = 11 million against the cap. Then the Bills claim to be up against their own self-imposed cap, when in fact they technically have 6 million free. The NFL doesnt care about cash to cap and will still charge the Bills 5, 6, 7, and 8 million against the cap. The Bills accounting will count this as 11, 6, 7, 8. This is entirely different than what the vikinks did with antoine winfield. The paid him a roster bonus (which all gets charged to the cap in 1 year) instead of a signing bonus. So, using the same contract as above, with the 8 million being a roster bonus, the NFL counts those cap counts as 11, 4, 5, 6. Thats how you free up future cap space if you have a lot in one season. -

Some thoughts right off the bat for discussion...last night's episode was awesome. I'm definitely a lot more interested in the island's secrets/time travel than the story line of the oceanic 6 trying to get back. So here goes, and some, none, or all of these may be right... 1. Since we know that whidmore was an "other," its possible he was the leader of them until he got diposed for Ben. Could explain why Whidmore wants to get back to the island, and also why he hates Ben. Or maybe Ben had something to do with sending whidmore off of the island. 2. The blonde on the island in 1954 is Faraday's mother (now the old white-haired woman). 3. Whidmore is Faraday's father. Him and the blonde meet on the island, and either the women weren't having reproductive problems back them, or perhaps whidmore and the blonde leave the island if/when she became pregnant with Faraday. This could explain why Whidmore is so interested in Faraday's work and why he was funding it. Would also explain why he seemed reluctant to give Des the address of faraday's mother, if they had some type of disagreement about the island, whether or not to go back, what to do about it, etc.

No i believe you, because your problem is with the way the front office draft. He must have been going nuts watching a scrub like leonard tear it up in the ravens D. He'd be a much bigger playmaker if he had a decent front 7 to play behind. My point was that the Bills problems haven't stemmed from from bad 1st round picks, but from questionable picks in the early-middle rounds, especially along the OL. You can easily find some real gems in rounds 2-4 along the OL. On lots of successful teams, they have a decent number of round 2-4 OL. This, imo, is where the Bills have failed. This year, barring some cataclysmic accident where McKelvin, Greer and McGee all get hurt before the end of april, there's no need to draft a DB in rounds 1 or 2. They could make a case for a safety in round 3, but i'd rather have them fill needs elsewhere. Scott-Whitner will be more than adequate while we re-tool the defensive front 7, get a TE, and snag depth along the OL.

Joe Montana Talking Football vs TSB

Joe Montana football = the 2008 detroit lions -
Whitner is average sized for a safety. He isn't "small", nor is he "big." If you're gonna take shots, at least be factual.

Mayokc is going to incur the frothing wrath of StL Bills for not having Coffman the #1 TE and Moore the #1 S
-
And, Arizona "squandered" their best resources on a 1st round CB in last year's draft. That's a sure recipe for disaster, according to some.
-
Just for the record, Greer will NOT get 4-5 million per season. On the open market, he'd command something like 6 years, 35-40 million.

We can always draft Graham "Onions" Gano out of FSU. He's the best kicker in the draft. -

It comes down to a choice: Greer this season or McGee next year. Probably better off keeping greer and letting mcgee walk or seeing if we cant deal him. Probably cheaper in the long run too.

Should the U.S. Gov't fund basic scientific reasearch?
Ramius replied to BuffaloBill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Well, i'm a bit biased, since i am about to graduate in a couple of months with my Biomed Engineering PhD, but yes government money for research is necessary. The sciences are one industry where in most cases, throwing money at a problem really does fix it, or goes a long way towards fixing it. There are some major funding problems right now in the sciences, with good researchers not getting funded, and overall advancements tend to stagnate when that happens. The crux of the problem is that since there is so little research money available, the gubmint is very selective where it send the research money. They're mainly going to send it to proven labs that have been around a while. While thats all well and good, lots of times these projects being funded are only going to make incremental advancements in science. But the gubmint funds them because they know they'll get something for their $. This leaves a lot of good research that might really make a difference out in the cold. Its very similar to the stock market. Right now, with the economy the way it is, the gubmint is only "investing" in low risk labs. Sure, they're basically guaranteed to get something out of their investment, but that return is going to be small. Science is a field where you need to take calculated risks to make the big advancements. -

He's from jacksonville. Most people from jax ride around in their jacked up 1984 dodge ram pickup with a confederate flag on the back. When they step out of the truck, they are usually wearing the following: cut-off jean shorts cut way too short, a florida gators 1996 national championship shirt, work boots (with socks hiked up to the knees, and a dale earnhardt trucker cap. -
TMQ: London Fletcher unwanted player of the year
Ramius replied to dietlbomb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excellent post. Fletcher always a hell of a player and i enjoyed all of his time on the Bills. But, as you said, those beatings tend to catch up with players before too long, especially one of smaller stature. It was too much of a risk to keep Fletcher for his price tag and age. -
