  1. It does feel like another Cody Ford/Boogie Basham moment for Beane - poor scheme fit, heavy-footed plodder in the second who they’ll say they “were seriously thinking about in the first.”
  2. Antonio Johnson still out there right?
  3. Wonder if Beane was hoping Mapu would last to 91.
  4. Thanks - I thought they said he’d be manning the LG in Buffalo. Again though, putting Torrence between Morse and Brown is … odd.
  5. I’m not sold on the approach here although I get the value. Assume they’re gonna put Torrence next to Dawkins, so does this mean Dawkins doesn’t kick inside in a couple of years? More importantly, you’ve got the left side of the line set up for a power scheme now, but not really the right side. And running screen passes behind Dawkins and Torrence and asking them to get downfield and block? I don’t think so. Just an odd schematic fit to me but they’ve been doing this mismatch thing on the o-line for most of McD’s tenure.
  6. The Lions are hurrying to use their picks like my son with $20 in his pocket at the drugstore.
  7. Would continue the yearly tradition of Beane throwing his second round pick in the garbage so…
  8. Good stuff Gunner. The draft was fun because, in a weak draft, teams target specific players and move around for them instead of waiting and standing pat. As for the Bills' pick, I don't think they expected Kinkaid to get past Green Bay or the Chargers, but Green Bay reverted to its MO of picking a Rashaan Gary-like raw DE who will develop just in time for Love to lose his faith in the organization, and the Chargers just can't help themselves if they see a big boundary receiver option. Both of those teams had glaring holes at a QB-friendly TE who could work the middle of the field, and both of them passed. The most encouraging part of last night for me was Beane's comments (if they're to be believed) that he would've traded out of the pick if Kinkaid was gone, instead of reaching for a run-stopping DT like Mazi Smith or a guard like Torrence. If he's telling the truth, it means he has a better grasp on positional value than I've been giving him credit for.
  9. Allen and Kincaid in the same offense is almost unfair. Two of the best athletes at their positions. Allen has talked about continuing his maturation from football player to quarterback and Kincaid is the perfect facilitator of that transition - you’re talking about a future 1a or 1b receiving option for the offense, dictating the defensive looks while keeping the defense guessing. Plus, personality-wise, as I keep saying the joke in the locker room is that Josh has the personality of a tight end. They need to keep building on that to give the offense an identity.
  10. Happy. Although in a deep TE draft you can wait - like taking Watkins in a deep WR draft. I posted a few months ago - add more tight ends. Allen has the personality of a tight end. Create mismatches and scheme versatility. Add another one.
  11. Now McBeane can take Mazi Smith like they always wanted.
  12. He also is a notorious practice/workout skipper. The off-field fit here has always seemed odd, putting aside the questionable on-field fit.
  13. Would not surprise me in the least. They are jonesing for a lunchpail DT.
  14. Brugler mocked him to the Bills this morning. https://theathletic.com/4454145/2023/04/27/mock-draft-nfl-round-1/
  15. Would be hilarious if they throw Shaq to the Cardinals as part of a Hopkins trade...
  16. Honestly? Hopkins, OBJ and Lamar in the same offense would be awesome to watch.
  17. I had a dream the other night that the Bills traded up several spots for Hyatt - with several other top receivers on the board still - in part because they were worried the Chiefs were targeting him. Take that for what it’s worth.
  18. Bryce Young is going to be a fantastic case study. He is too slight to play the position as it's traditionally understood. But he's also maybe the fastest processor the position has ever seen. He's legitimately a savant of some kind - off the charts smarts, anticipation and intangibles. I too am glad I'm not the GM having to pick him, but as a fan I am excited to root for the kid.
  19. Beane's mentee Schoen just paid $8M for one year of A'Shawn Robinson, so the apple/tree/fall thing...
  20. Last year’s draft was a misfire. They clearly approached the draft with a “shopping list” of positions they felt they needed to shore up to make a Super Bowl run. It was Beane’s first ever draft in that type of situation - 13 seconds away from a title if you will - and instead of sticking to his board with discipline he overdrafted specific positions of need for the 2022 roster, only. My prediction is that within a few years we will look back at that draft as a complete fail.
