  1. Without getting into his obvious failings with RISP or in close and late situations, he truly seems like the phoniest guy I have ever seen. Every move is calculated and fake. The best thing he did was say he didn't care about Jeter before the 07 season, it freed his mind to have a great year. In 08, back to the same schit. I can only imagine the ills 09 will bring with Madonna.
  2. Sacrilege!! You actually put ice cubes into your single malt? Whats the friggin' point? Neat, or for cask strength malts, add a touch of distilled water to open it up.
  3. You have to be kidding? I really can't believe the Yankees signed this douche for 10 years. I have to watch this **** for 9 more years...
  4. I missed that about Giambi, good find. Nevertheless, noone from MLB had contracts cancelled due to steroids. If Avery gets 8-10 games and a heavy fine for referring to an ex-gf as "sloppy seconds" I think the NHL is very wrong here. Personally, I would start testing the bounds of free speech on every occasion.
  5. They can have fun with that one...if the Yankees could not void Giambi's contract after Giambi admitted taking steroids, ain't no way Dallas wins this one. Far too much of a slippery slope for the union. Even if the union has no desire to fight for Avery, they have no choice. And I love the 10-20 game suspension that article talks about...WTF? For referring to an ex gf as sloppy seconds? This is going to be heavily challenged by the union. You may see a compromise...a paid leave of absence, but IMHO Dallas is going to lose on this one.
  6. The NHLPA?
  7. Undoubtedly that is true, but thats part of the reason why the union exists...to fight for players who are arbitraily suspended...like for saying something about an ex-girlfriend.
  8. Until the union gets involved.
  9. Only for criticizing officials...nothing else in my knowledge.
  10. AIG's business plan would have been something like this.... Stop writing CDS contracts. Close AIG Financial Products. Keep everything else the same. And it would have been perfectly accepted. The big three have far more complex problems than AIG for many reasons. Its just that AIG going bankrupt would suck in dozens of other institutions due to the CDS contracts and effectively cancel the insuance for many, many homeowners and businesses (remember AIG is the largest insuance company in the world).
  11. In fairness to the Big 3, they have bypassed the hybrid technology for fuel cell technology which is currently being tested in Westchester County. It is the more promising technology. And I really would not trade my Jeep Wrangler for any other car.
  12. But that severance package was A- Negotiated at arms length with the board of directors B- Often includes substantial portions of deferred compensation that the executive could have taken in past years (when times were good) but deferred for whatever reason C- May also include stock options that are virtually worthless The executive does not receive a check for $70 million It is jealousy...why does it matter if the CEOs of the big 3 took a private jet to DC? It really has no bearing on the company's overall financial health...its dimes in couch cushions.
  13. Why do you think executive compensation has gotten so much play when it is not even close to the problem? This country is overrun with jealousy over what others have versus what you have. Its completely ridiculous and caters to the lowest common denominator.
  14. It would not have been a riot. The Stars don't even seem to like Avery, let alone stick up for him in that game. It would have been a first period fight between Phaneuf and Avery...Avery would have gotten his ass handed to him, end of story.
  15. Yep. Worked there back in 99. Still patronize some of the business in the ESB (especially Diamond Cutters, best prices I have found on diamond jewlery).
  16. Sure do. Bertuzzi was a cheap shot artist. Phaneuf would have just gone up to Avery and fought him like a man, beat the schit out of him, and served his penalty. End of story. EDIT: Also, the NHL made a bad example here...suspending a player indefinately over comments about an ex-girlfriend? WTF?
  17. The NHL should never have stepped in. Let them handle it on the ice. And I think it was pretty f*cking funny...echoes of Crash Davis..."How's your wife and my kid?" and Paul Newman as Reggie Dunlop "Hey Hanrahan! Hanrahan! Hanrahan - Suzanne sucks pu$$y! Hey Hanrahan she's a dyke! I know, I know! She's a lesbian, a lesbian, a lesbian!"
  18. I just picked this up from Target...noticed it as I was walking through. Very good album. Rat Pack X-Mas
  19. I'm interested in that as well, especially given a recent ESPN the Magazine article detailing how, in the wake of the Sean Taylor death, Javon Walker beating in Vegas and home invasion robberies of many prominent athletes, many athletes are taking personal security to extreme measures.
  20. I also wonder if we could be facing a situation where Jauron is the right coach and it would be premature to start over. Remeber Jeff Fisher and his string of 7-9 and 8-8 seasons (4 in a row) early in his tenure...now the Titans have a proven program and they are eitehr contenders or at the very worst a tough out every year. If they had dumped Fisher and restarted with a new coach, would they ever have achieved the success they had? I didn't think Meathead or Greggo would ever develop into decent HCs, Jauron, I am on the fence with. If we could replace Jauron with a guy like Schottenheimer, cool, but somehow I don't think Marty is coming here. It would be another chance hire and I may be inclined to go with another year of Jauron and see if this team can take the jump the Titans did in the late 90s.
  21. Bing Crosby White Christmas is my fav. Don't know why but Bing's voice just sounds like Christmas to me.
  22. The HC often delegates the Xs and Os to coordinators and is more of a CEO figure anyway. That is why so many very good coordinators flame out as head coaches. I have no idea of April's organization skills or how he would be as a game manager, but his guys seem organized and motivated each and every week. Year after year he puts together top units, even this year's rebuilding bunch is pretty good and will only get better with time. Also, remember Levy was a special teams coach, I don't think he was a pro coordinator (could be wrong there). IMHO, it would either be wildly successful or an abject disaster...nothing medicore.
  23. I'll be there.
  24. I would back Marty 100%. A few comments from San Diego players... Story Link
  25. Apparently the security guard who was killed jumped in front of a preganat lady and shielded her from the crowd. Link There really needs to be some charges brought here. You have a pool of about 2000 people, most who purchased via credit card. You have names and security footage. Link them up and bring charges against these people. It is very likely that the charges will not stick (can you determine which stomp actually caused the death?), but I'd be willing to use my taxpayer money to out the azzholes responsible for this.
