  1. AVP was home grown and kept on DJ's staff, so it wouldn't really be fair to call him a DJ guy. We can only hope for the lucky stick.
  2. Thats what I fgured. Of course, Donahoe did sign Lawyer Milloy (on the wrong side of 30 to a L-T contract), so I think that goes out the window. Just speculating here but I think Pat wasn't one of Donahoe's guys and was a John Butler leftover, perhaps why he got the shaft.
  3. OK, I'll ask because I was (and still am) confounded by the Pat Williams thing. At the time, I thought it was the worst move possible for the team. Here's a career Bill, with a wife and businesses in WNY, who just played the game of his life against Pittsburgh (one of the few who showed up) and was posied to excel even further after a consistent and honorable career. He should have been re-signed and retired a Bill and I was angry that Donahoe did not even try to re-sign Pat. Is there anything you can tell as to why Pat was not re-signed? If not (and not in a public forum), then thats OK too.
  4. OK, now I'm getting angry. Anyone remember much in the way of formations or much movement in the K-gun? Didn't think so. It was 3 WR, 1 RB and a TE. Kept it simple and quick, the D was on its heels all game. If you are going to have players moving all over the field, pre-snap, and multiple formations, you WILL lose the benefits of the no huddle. I can see lots of illegal procedure penalties in our future if this is the way DJ wants the no-huddle to run. Hopefully, AVP see this and simplifies the offense to the 15-20 plays we run best and run them over and over again. Thats the only way it can be successful. Adding a play or two a week for specific opponents can work, but only when the bread-and-butter base offense has been mastered. We have heard about execution for years, but this is not rocket science. Don't overload the players, you will see better execution on the plays you run well. I really hate having such pessimism before the season even starts!
  5. You mean like Captain Queeg Donahoe?
  6. Well, we always have the bye week right, and Marty Schottenheimer is available.
  7. We can only hope. What a friggin mess.
  8. Agreed. But you have to figure that the system and the plays they practiced etc. are going to be what they run this year. No time to install anything new. So, basically AVP now calls the plays and we look stupid for firing our OC on the eve of the season. They could have given playcalling to AVP anyway. I just feel like we are a completely disorganized mess on the eve of the season. Very disheartening.
  9. If this is true, what a friggin joke of a team we have...4-12, at best.
  10. Perhaps, but I'm willing to make that leap. Teddy Kennedy understood incremental change and I think Obama is figuring it out as well. Want to create competition that will lower the cost for Americans with a stroke of a pen...easy, permit insurance companies to operate across state lines. Let every health insurance company operate in all 50 states. I can't take seriously any bill that does not cap medical malpractice awards in a worker's compensation style forum. Without that limitation, the bill is just pandering.
  11. Started smoking cigarettes at 15, I'm 33 and have not made an attempt to quit yet.
  12. I listened to this speech. If the Republicans really wanted to put a the final nail in Obamacare, they would just replay this speech (and say when Reagan gave it) as their response to Obama's speech on healthcare. If they play it on national TV, the debate is over and Obama loses. How appropriate and relevant it seems today, 47 years after it was given.
  13. Outstanding list. Where is this from?
  14. Interesting sidenote, the clock doesn't reset on the do-over. So, if a team is up 2 on Dallas with 2:00 to go, and Dallas forced a punt, I would just keep kicking the ball into the scoreboard until the game is over. The competition committee has to address this, but so far they have not addressed it.
  15. I think its a pretty good idea to bus the legislature far, far away and start over. Good one!
  16. Kick ass song, but you may want to rethink the concept of ELizabeth Reed... http://burningtaper.blogspot.com/2008/01/i...abeth-reed.html And my contribution to the thread... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sMWTqUuSh4
  17. I'll admit the use of 9/11 was not right. Yes, he did a fine job. Lets move on. As you say, he did a great job as NYC mayor IMHO. I think he could do a good job as govenor if he has the stomach for the type of fighting necessary to get NYS back on track. I don't know if he does (and I'm a big Rudy backer).
  18. Rudy v. Cuomo would be a real dogfight. I hope Rudy has the stomach for that type of fight.
  19. OMFG...women being asked to show their tatas! What is this world coming to?
  20. Thats pretty cool. I have one from the 20s, one of the real old style candlestick phones (looks like this. It was in my grandfather's attic, I took it when he passed away. Along the way, someone has modified it to work by plugging in a modern phone line. During the NYC blackout a few years ago, we plugged it in and it worked to make phone calls and connect with people, as it was one of the few items that did not need to be plugged in. My wife's best friend was able to get in touch with her NYPD husband using this phone. Valuable to keep around.
  21. "This is a test. For the next sixty seconds, this station will conduct a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. This is only a test. If this had been an actual emergency, the Attention Signal you just heard would have been followed by official information, news or instructions. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System." Rotary Dial Phones Phone Booths Wind-Up Wall Clocks (I have one, but they are rarely seen)
  22. Agreed. Oher at LT and leaving Walker at RT would make me feel a whole lot better about our OL heading into this year. Oher Levitre/Butler Hamgartner Wood Walker I would have loved that. As is, I think LT is the position we are likely to focus on in the next draft.
  23. You could call it that...or the largest Ponzi scheme ever perpetrated.
  24. He will have one role this year....3rd and long, see QB, get QB. He will rely on speed and natural talent, rather than learning the defensive system. He will have no coverage responsibilities or other defensive tasks. I don't like the holdout any more than anyone else here, but I don't think it will change his role from what it would have been anyway. Best case scenario (and I'm not comparing the players, just the impact)...Cornelius Bennett in 1987.
  25. I made the same decision years ago myself. I'm buying you a for a great post.
