Yahoo Sports has us going with a CB with the #10 pick
bills_fan replied to iccrewman112's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think I would throw something through my TV if we take a DB. Absolute meltdown. -
Yes, he was 2006 MVP. But, he was also 2009 NLCS MVP. And I disagree with you regarding how valuable Howard is to the Phillies. You think Utley would see the same fat pitches to hit if you or I were hitting behind him?
-
You do realize that Howard won NLCS MVP right? I would not call him overrated in any sense. And, last I looked, the Dodgers had multiple LHPs in their bullpen, same as the Yankees. So, he obviously did something right in the postseason, bad WS notwithstanding. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-n...p&type=lgns

No offense intended, but please look at the stats before making these comments. On Sept 1, 2009, Ryan Howard was hitting .275. Howard made MAJOR strides this season in his approach to hitting. His AVG by month... Apr .288 May .250 Jun .245 Jul .290 Aug .299 Sep .288 Howard also is quite predictable in terms of monthly trends. April is his worst moth, followed by June. He usually has a great May and a decent July. He goes nuclear in Aug and Sept. This year Howard has made major changes in his diet in an effort to become a more consistent player. This article provides some good insight on him as a player and a person. As for the strikeouts, Howard's 2009 does not even make the top 10. Yes, he strikes out, but please consult the stats before making claims regarding 190 strikeouts. The all time single season top 10... Player Strikeouts Year 1 Mark Reynolds 223 2009 2 Mark Reynolds 204 2008 3 Ryan Howard 199 2007 Ryan Howard 199 2008 5 Jack Cust 197 2008 6 Adam Dunn 195 2004 7 Adam Dunn 194 2006 8 Bobby Bonds 189 1970 9 José Hernández 188 2002 10 Bobby Bonds 187 1969 As for fielding, Howard has made excellent strides this year as well in order to try and become a complete player. Check this link out that discusses the strides Howard made this year in becoming a better fielder. He was not that far off from Texiera in fielding metrics this year. I read an article around spring training (can't find it right now) that discussed Howard's fielding approach and how hard he worked at it. Now, the only point you made that was on the money...vs. LHP. Howard's AVG has declined four consecutive years vs. LHP, barely over .200 this season. His power numbers have also declined 4 straight years vs. LHP. Given the articles I've read on Howard, I think he will address this area over the winter. He is a prideful person and was embarassed in the WS. Methinks he'll win his second NL MVP next year as he pulls his numbers vs. LHP from awful to at least barely respectable. No offense intended by this, and yes, he is one of my favorite players (the WS was the only time I ever rooted against him since I first saw him in AA). He wants to be like Pujols and is working like hell to get there. Is he complete yet? No, but I wouldn't bet against him next season.

This is not true at all. A beer can still be a beer up much higher than that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer#Alcoholic_strength

Our Government Being Weenies Again

Would that include changing the radio when a crappy song or comemrcial comes on? -
Farthest thing from overrated. Ryan Howard is the best power hitter in baseball. His tears are legendary. So are his slumps. Howard utterly destroys RHP. That was why Marte started the 8th rather than Mo last nite. Howard's kryptonite is LHP. The only time Howard was able to hit LHP was 2006 after working with Tony Gwynn. He won MVP that year and hit .313 with 58 bombs. If Howard kept up the hot tear he was on, you would have likely seen a very different World Series.

Ralphie keeps listening to his accountant and pocketing his money. The Bills made what, $40 million last year, according to Forbes? $40 millionwould have gotten us Haynesworth (in his up front, year 1 money) and then maybe we would not be allowing 200+ rushing yards per game. Gotta spend the $$$ Ralphie.

See, you can be a fiscal conservative and leave the social issues to the states. Thats the candidate I'm waiting for. A true conservative would limit the powers of the Federal government to the enumerated powers in the Constitution, leaving everything else to the states. At that point, gay marriage, abortion etc., become state issues to deal with as they see fit. If they accept that philosophy, you could see a GOP rebirth.

I'd sign your petition. -
Petition to bench Larry Johnson for using "fag"
bills_fan replied to John Adams's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was waiting for someone to use "What about the chillllldren?" Pathetic. Johnson is a POS, but he can say what he wants. Already, this has gone too far IMHO. Of course, I also thought Sean Avery got a raw deal over his sloppy seconds comment. -
Good point. Thats why we need to keep voting against incumbants of both parties until someone will cut spending, balance the budget, reform health care and Social Security and, only then, cut taxes.
-
I don't think its a referendum on just the Dems and Obama, but more of an anti-incumbant movement. People want goevrnment to stop meddling and lower their taxes. Taxes was THE big issue in NJ. Doesn't bode well for Obama's big government agenda. People are seeing incumbant Dems and Reps as part of the problem.

NBA fixed beyond what I ever imagined
bills_fan replied to bills_fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I would hope in response to this that the NBA would significantly up its quality control. Three palming violations on Iverson right after he criticizes a ref should warrant an immediate investigation. In fact, all leagues should adopt high quality control standards to root out agendas, just call the damn game without an agenda. -

I really did not think it happened as much between the refs. My take is that Donaghy is exaggerating the "subtle" message from the league to make himself seem like less of an outlier. My suprise is how the refs take the game into their own hands as often as they do. And given MLB's plethora of blown calls this postseason and their absolute refusal to even consider replay, it does make me pause just a bit. -
Ummm....RG is the toughest interior OL position, much tougher than LG, at least according to Ross Tucker who wrote the best article on breaking down the OL positions I have ever read. Here is the article.

The link below has some of the most explosive stuff I've ever read about a sports league. Just amazing. I know to take it with a grain of salt, but its pretty damning. http://deadspin.com/5392067/excerpts-from-...ant-you-to-read And here is some commentary about the excerpts, with anonymous quotes from league execs confirming its truth. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AiEw...o&type=lgns

I think Boselli was better than all 3 (Jones, Pace and Ogden) when healthy. I never saw another LT absolutely stone Bruce Smith cold, one-on-one.

Trying to pick a honeymoon destination!
bills_fan replied to PushthePile's topic in Off the Wall Archives
This actually will make more of a difference than most think. My wife and I honeymooned in St. Maarten for 2 weeks, in February...well after football season and before baseball season. It was great and we would love to go back. But everything is priced on the Euro. Right now that just about adds 50% to the cost of your trip (excluding flights). If you are looking to leave the US, Mexico is not a bad deal right now. Neither are certain places in S. America (Argentina, Costa Rica, but not Brazil). But your options are very limited. I have no knowledge of Tahiti/Bora Bora currency. Too long of a flight for me. Also, BTW - this Administration is just as bad as the last one for the dollar. The last decent US President for the dollar was Clinton. -
Keith Ellison is second in the NFL in tackles
bills_fan replied to metzelaars_lives's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Poz is too slow to play OLB. He is borderline too slow to play MLB in a Tampa 2. I think he would excel playing closer to the LOS in a conventional 4-3. We need an impact OLB. If we get that, Ellison and Draft to the bench as depth guys. Poz, Mitchell and new OLB as starters. We then would have LB depth. -
Lots of options you just laid out. I won't pretend to know which would be best, but if we have a need, I'll bet there is a way.

Because all the robberies, assaults, drug dealers etc. are all locked up, the police have nothing better to do. Are you friggin' kidding me? Reason number 437 that my backyard is completely surrounded by trees/bamboo and no neighbors can see in. -
Apparently, Marty was negotiating with the Sabres in the offseason to come back. He figured he would go to the NYI and get to play more. If our backups are so bad, I could see a deal being made to bring Marty back. I think Marty's deal is relatively inexpensive from what I remember.
