  1. Then the community and owners are nuts. He is a very good coach who has won a lot of games out there. Apparently, they want a politician??? Hell, I'd take Marty in a heartbeat.
  2. Marty is a VERY successful coach and I would have no problem with Marty. But why would he want to leave a cozy siuation in SD?
  3. I think that Ralph said it best...delegation. If Marv had the right coordinators, experienced and strong, it could work out. Slothrop...Warren Buffett is 75 years old, Jack McKeon won a World Series at 73, Connie Mack managed until he was 88 years old, Ben Franklin helped write the US Constitution at 81 years old, I could continue, but don't feel like Googling any more. Hey, why not? He's healthy and rested.
  4. Again, the age thing. Reagan was President at 80, Alan Greenspan ran the country at 80...shall I continue?
  5. You're absolutely righT!! Just like Washington was the laughingstock when they hired Gibbs, and the Rams or Chiefs when they hired Vermeil.
  6. Dear Mr. Mularkey Thank you for leaving my team before you fugged it up worse. Thank you for allowing us to have a fresh start and a clean slate while there were still plenty of coaches around. Best of luck to you and your family. I don't really blame you because TD put you in a siuation where you couldn't really succeed and you were not the best candidate. Later.
  7. The #1 sport is tough in any market. Steelers in Pitt (noone cares about the Pirates), Yankees in NYC/ Knicks after baseball season, Red Sox in Boston. Whenever you have a clear #1, its a tough job.
  8. Ralph didn't know what TD paid MM. Asst Salaries. All delegated. TD's call all the way.
  9. Screw that, give me CHARLIE WEIS!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Good, I'm glad MM is out. Now maybe we can move forward and get some great efforts from EM and Adams with a real coach.
  11. The thing is, Ralph is 87 years old. He has seen how much the NFL is a coaches league. He wants a SB win more than anything in life. He'll pay for coaches, this time. Also, TD has conducted 3 coaching searches (including Cowher). In those searches, he has interviewed former HCs twice. Thats it. Only Jauron and Fassel were former HCs interviewed. Finally, in 2001, Fox was the 3rd best candidate behind Lewis and GW. GW actually had a higher national profile due to the success the Tenn D had with a young Kearse, the exciting SB against the Rams and the use of the 46 D. Fox was simply Giants DC, who coached the D in a suprise SB run. But they got trounced and he faded. So who's really at fault here?
  12. No, that period of time was when TD was hired, proceeded to spend 5 years alienating the fan base and left an unmitigated disaster when he was fired. The trick will be for Marv to clean it up. If he just gets the ship pointed in the right direction on this team, he should be considered a HOF GM.
  13. In thinking more and more about Haslett, I think he'd be extreme. Either extremely good (because he learned what not to do with NO and has grown as a coach) or an extreme disaster (because he's just not smart enough to match wits with Belichek or Saban 4xs a year). I will say that I'm glad I don't have to make that decision and have faith that Marv will find the right guy for the job.
  14. While I'd love Weis, its not gonna happen. My initial though for a serious candidate is Dick Jauron. He interviewed last time, even had a meeting with Ralph, and was the leader until TD talked Ralph into MM. Jauron did a very good job with the Bears, with very little talent they were competitive. He's defense oriented, blue collar, believes in a strong running game and is experienced. He served as Detroit's interim HC after Mooch was fired, but won't be retained in Detroit. I think he'd be a great choice. A couple of good reads on Jauron... http://www.nfl.com/news/2001/CHI/jauron_090401.html http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/foot...ndup.monday.ap/
  15. It seems like B, noone wanted to work for him given the instability in the organization (ie lame duck). Thats fine. Lets get a real coach in here.
  16. John Murphy said it was because of frustration over not being able to fill OC/DC positions with quality coaches.
  17. There's humor, dark humor, but humor.
  18. No argument here, but many NEVER get it and list is longer. The question with respect to Haslett is which one is he? I just don't see Haslett matching wits with Belichek or Saban and winning. Like it or not, that MUST be the deciding criteria.
  19. "We have Tight Ends?"
  20. Two words.... Buy out!
  21. Except one. Charlie Weis!!!!
  22. Can you honestly say that you envision Haslett matching wits with Belichek or Saban, and coming out on top?
  23. Thats because he's not that good of a coach.
