Just sign anyone! Anyone, even if they're awful! Overpay for borderline players! Get DL like Bannon and overpay him, please. Please sign anyone b/c it is free agency. Pay Runyon 15M over two years even if he can't walk and isn't that good anymore. Just do it Marv!

Tripplett is an absolute steal if Bannon gets a 4yr deal with a 3M signing bonus! Are you kidding me? A part time player for the worst defense in the league last year? Wow--talk about overpaying.

Ralph Should Sell Stadium Naming Rights
Ray replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
MadBuffalo is right. Selling the naming rights for 1-2M/year--wow less than 1% of the salary cap. Sorry folks, it will not generate any near the revenue people want it too. Rich Products has better things to do than spend 5-10M/year on naming rights of the stadium. Maybe 1M/year. That will buy you a back-up TE in free agancy. -
Probably a similar value as Moulds, howver, Moulds had more than twice as many receptions as Bruce last year.

Shouldn't Bills just pay Moulds at this point?
Ray replied to mikecole1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very few players--almost none take paycuts. They restructure their deal so it counts less against the cap. Moulds cap figure currently is 10M and change. If they changed that all to bonus money and amortized it over 4 years it would be much less of a cap hit. I realize now with the CBA unsettled they are unable to do that with the restrictions on contracts salary reductions etc.... But if a CBA gets done it would not be unrealistic for Moulds to have a cap figure of about 5M. Let's wait and see before cutting him, signing a lesser talent for 2-3M/year and having the same cap figure for a FA who isn't even as good as Moulds. Patience people--just remember when you cut someone you have to replace him with another player. I think Moulds is worth about 4.5M more than Sam Aiken. -
A DT that is consistently double teamed is great. Stats for DTs are pretty much useless. Big Ted and Sam Adams do not have great stats when you look at tackles and sacks. But they are consistently the DTs on great defenses (last year excluded). Richard Seymour is the same way. They tie up blockers and let the rest of the DL or LBs make plays. Tackles and sacks are vastly overrated stats for DTs, so I wouldn't be worried about the lack of tackles and sacks in one game for a DT. I would be worried if he was singled up against a guard and was manhandled by the guy. Somehow I doubt that was the case.
-
Have him take the 30% pay cut, and then he can attempt to get the other money back by incentive based pay. Heck, you could make incentive money available that would surpass his 5.5M base this year. It looks like '07 will be uncapped so who cares about the bonus money counting then. Is Moulds worth the 5.5M or do we play with Evans-Aiken-Parrish? Wow that combo has got to strike fear in the opposing defenses!

Keep him, but only for a newly negotiated cap figure. I don't think even the most ardent Moulds supporter (and I'm a huge EM fan) believes he can come back under the current figure. You can't pay a WR 10+M a year on the cap. Now if you can get Moulds to sign/renegotiate a new deal you can easily lower his cap figure to about 6M7M/year. Who wouldn't want him back for that cap figure since signing anyone else to replace him would mean a higher cap figure. Also, there is nobody in FA as good as Moulds. So why pay an inferior WR a cap figure of 7+M/year (Moulds dead cap 5.5 + new WR's cap money).

Cowboys or Texans and he has a good career with them feeling more comfortable back home.

Maybe Marv is being a bit coy.....

Big Mike being cut does not surprise me
Ray replied to Nick in RaChaCha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One MAJOR differnce with Moulds is that he is one of if not thte most respected player on the team by the players. He is a GREAT worker with a great work ethic. He is a pro-bowler. None of those characteristics describe MW. The fellow players WANT Moulds on the team. I'm not sure you can say the same about MW. Now, Moulds can NOT come back with the contract he has now--that I agree. But if he restructures to a cap figure around 6M you darn well keep him. This team needs him because there is no replacement for him. -
It's Official....Bills Release OT Mike Williams!

Good post. And objective and thoughtful--rare on this board! -
It's Official....Bills Release OT Mike Williams!

Peters was doing fine and improving on the line. He was our best OL at the end of last year. Although I think Chhris V is a great guy he has lost it. He was bad last year. Peters fits into Marv and Jauron's idea of having athletic tackles and then having big strong guys guard to guard. We had a very bad G-C-G trio last year. That area needs huge improvement. As for MW, his cap figure is what crushed him. He is a good, nice guy who definitely needs a change of scenery. He could do well in Houston playing back home in Texas. But he is another example of guys from U of Texas who vastly disappoint there NFL teams. I have heard some scouts say they are hesitant to take guys from UT--maybe there is something to it. They say it has more to do with motivation etc.. when they get to the NFL and not talent. They have the talent, they just have a tough time transitioning to the NFL. -
Yeah, we've got plenty of receivers on the roster who can replace 80 receptions/game. And we're loaded with DTs to relace Adams.
-
Many on this board wanted everyone cut! The problem with cutting people is that you have to replace them with someone else---and pay them. This a little point many seem to have forgotten.
-
If Moulds leaves we need TO! No WR is anywhere near his ability in free agency. How did Reggie Wayne do when he was keyed on by the defense and double teamed? Not good is the answer. And he had PM throwing him the ball.
-
Who do you not want to see the Bills release?
Ray replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we can find receivers so easily who catch 80 balls a year then where are they? There are zip in free agency who command double teams. We got a glimpse of an offense without Moulds and it was absolutely putrid. Why do so many people want Aiken to replace Moulds? That is just plain stupid. Or you want to sign an inferior free agent pay him 2-3M/year and Moulds 5.5M if he is cut. So a new free agent WR is 8M/year for the cap. Moulds would easily re-structure for a cap figure better than that. -
Bills working on Moulds' situation

Evans did so well the game he had no Moulds on the opposite side didn't he? How does Evans do when they roll coverage to his side. Does he do well against double coverage? These are questions you have to answer--and so far he has failed in that regard. That is a huge gamble. I like Evans as a receiver a lot! But look at Peerless, a very similar WR to Evans. How did that work out for him not having Moulds on the other side commanding double coverage? I agree like everyone that Moulds is NOT worth 10M a year. Nobody is arguing that point. But if he restructures he is the same cap value as cutting him and signing another free agent. Unless you want Sam Aiken to take his place--in which case Aiken essentially has a cap figure of 6-6.5M for the year by cutting Moulds. I agree Moulds needs to keep his mouth shut, but what he said was correct in the Miami game. Calling out a QB? Saying a QB needs to compete for a job is calling the QB out? Wanting a QB to throw accurately? We all saw JP and he was awful at times. Worst completion percentage in the AFC. If you want to group Moulds in with character problems then apply the same standard to others in the league and call for the Pats to get rid of McGinest, Carolina to get rid of Steve Smith, Bengals to get rid of Chad Johnson. These guys started fights on sidelines with there own players, called team members out in public on sidelines etc... -
I imagine they are profiling Senior DTs. Ngata is a junior and may not have declared at the time this was going to print.

I can tell you what stocks you should have bought in 2002 and you would have been a millionaire today. I could have told you the lottery numbers to pick too! I don't remember too many people complaining at the time of the picks. Bledsoe, Williams, Reed etc...

We all know the Bills couldn't come up with the extra 1-1.5M/year to re-sign big Pat. The 4 year 11M offered before the season was enough of an offer. Enough that the Bills didn't even contact him from there on out! Huge mistake.

Bills working on Moulds' situation
Ray replied to MadBuffaloDisease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is NOT--for the hundreth time cap savings of 5.5M! Who do you sign to take his place? Sign another WR for 2-3M/year and you have a WR playing for 7.5-8.5M cap figure. Face it, we have no reasonablr receiving corps without Moulds. Does Sam Aiken get 81 receptions next year? That's the only way you "save 5.5M" on the cap, and you have to re-sign Aiken because he is a restricted FA. Savings is only savings if you have the quality replacement on the roster already. And we all know he's not on this team already. Evans in probably another 2 years, but not now. -
A phantom TD, a phantom hold that should have had the Seahawks at 1st and goal at the one and a very weeny "push-off" call. About 15 points difference. What was the difference in the game? Hmmmmm It was the worst officiating in a SB ever! I started out rooting for the Steelers and then changed because the Seahawks were getting cheated on multiple calls.
-
Average? The worst performance by a winning QB in history and a QB rating of what 22.6? Horrible game that was GIVEN to the Steelers. Wow what a gift they were given. Phantom holding calls, phantom TDs. Wish the Bills could have gotten calls like that in any of their SBs. Actually I wish they went up against the likes of Seattle, the Eagles, Carolina etc.... Then the Bills would have been a legacy. Instead we went up against some of the best teams in NFL history. Oh well, guess we got to look to the future and stay positive. It's just tough sometimes around SB time.

So many people want to cut Moulds at a cost of 5-6 million and replace him with Sam Aiken to save money. Major problem with the offense already and you want to make it worse? Cutting Moulds "saves" 5-6 million ONLY if you do not go out and sign another WR. You will not go out on the WR market and find anyone of Moulds talent level--they're just not out there. TO is the only one--I realize TO is better than Moulds. Where are you going to make up for 80+ receptions? Moulds restructuring is the best for the cap and the team. It is a win-win situation. For those criticizing his character--he is a 10 year veteran on this team. If you say he should be cut then apply the same standard to Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, Willie McGinest etc... who all much more publicly and violently criticized coaching decisions and players attitudes openly.
