Hmmm, it might be a while then, because I've still got about 800 pages left in The System of the World Guess my reading list is back to full.

Yes, thats another favorite of mine...I can't wait for the next one to come out (I've been waiting for it for about 4 years now). Apparently, the 5th book is done as well...he wrote so much for the 4th book that he split it into 2. So, it won't be another 5 year gap between volumes. I just hope that there is some kind of good summary for what went on in the first 3 books, as I read them quite a long time ago, and there is no way I could re-read them all before November. Martin does tend to re-hash events a lot in his writing, so it will probably be okay.

Yes! I'm about 100 pages into The System of the World. Its a fantastic series, if a little long-winded. I thought Quicksilver was a slower read, but had more geeky stuff in it, while The Confusion had a plot that I really got into. I liked Snow Crash, and thought Cryptonomicon was really good, although sometimes I got a little annoyed at how he spent time explaining things to the non-geek readers.

What channel?

Well, in my franchise, the Bills just went 16-0 Willis had some 2300 yards, JP had 34 touchdown passes, and the defense led the league in every category. The Pats finished 3rd in the division Its probably time for me to bump up the difficulty level, but who wants to lose?

The problem with the Pats is that they always look beatable. They rarely blow out teams (other than the Bills). I think they've been beatable for the last two years, but when it comes down to it, they usually manage to pull it off. I think we can beat them, especially without Bledsoe, but its always gonna be a tough fight.

Its not illegal to gamble among friends....I'm not entirely sure what the law says, but a game like this is definitely fine.

I have an idea. Let them play the Giants at the Ralph, and let them play the Bills at the Meadowlands. That way, I'd get to go to the game

You think its do-able to go to both? That was one of the weekends I was thinking about making the trip back, as I can drive home to CT on the Sunday... If the Sabres game is at 5, then it will probably go until 7:30 or so, barring a tie with a shootout. If one were to park strategically near the 190, could you make it to the Ralph, park (probably far away), and get inside by kickoff? I would think you would miss part of the 1st quarter, or have to leave the hockey game early, but what do the rest of you think?

If you paid $5 for shipping and he shipped it for $0.37, then I think that is deserving of negative feedback. The least he could do was put it in a priority mail envelope for less than $4, and everyone would be happy.

I was watching the Jays game last night on ESPN2, when the decision came down from ESPN. Buccigross was the one reading the announcement, and he didn't sound all too happy. It had a kind of end-of-an-era feel to it. I wonder how many guys from there Comcast will steal to cover hockey?

Any DirecTV subscribers care to comment on pricing? I heard that DirecTV sent a letter out saying it would be $129 this year. There is no info yet from In Demand on how much it will cost. Its an extra $4.95 a month to get OLN on my cable, so I might as well pay the extra to get every game....

I think its a bad idea. I think they should wait several more years to see what happens to Niagara Falls. Already, all the old restaurants and businesses in the falls are closing because everyone goes straight to the casino. Buffalo needs to market itself along with Niagara Falls, not as a competitor. They need to market the architectural and cultural history of Buffalo as a tourist attraction to go along with a visit to the Falls and the casino in Niagara Falls. And ultimately, if the casino in Niagara Falls kills the city, you can expect the same thing to happen to Buffalo. Also, I disagree with having it be an Indian casino. I think that if the Niagara Falls casino proves to be a success, that can be used as political ammunition to get gambling legalized by the state. Granted, this will just bring in large gaming corporations, but at least they will have to pay the same taxes that any other business in the city pays, which I'd imagine are far more than the slot revenue sharing that they'll get from the Senecas.

Ha! My first Bills game was against Miami in the playoffs of the 1990 season. I sat in the end zone bleachers on a cold January day. I had so much beer dumped on me that I probably reeked like a bar for a week, but I didn't care. I was sold for life on the Bills.

Yeah, the Peca trade happened after I started this thread...guess its not like the '99 sabres anymore. I always liked Peca more than Satan, because when it comes down to it, I'd prefer to have a team full of playoff gamers than a team full of guys who can score when we don't really need them to. Zhitnik is solid and will be solid in the playoffs too. And who knows, Satan may start earning his paycheck more for you, it could have been issues with Ruff all this time that caused him to only really play when he felt like it. All in all, I still wish those two had at least gone to the Western conference, if they weren't gonna stay in Buffalo.

It sounds like it might be next Thursday. They will have a big press conference after the deal is ratified, and they want to do the lottery when they are on TV. Barring any snags in the ratification process, the draft will probably be on the 30th.
