Week 11 - Chiefs at Bills Game Week Thread
MikePJ76 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
wow now people's first posts here are attacking me. Great. and to answer the question there is no scenario where I would ever want andy reid coaching the team I root for. I do not like him or any of his GB pals. Never Will. -
I am the OP. The thread is about how teams trying to 3peat have had their season ended. of the 5 teams who made the playoffs again 3 of them lost to the same opponent in the playoffs as they did the regular season. its not about the bills chiefs recent history. It was meant as history says the bills need to win this game because of that specific history.

we all are. I imagine they play a bunch of 11 personnel. I hope they line up and run a lot even though everything says not to. -
Who’s the best Left Tackle you have ever watched?
MikePJ76 replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes there were some bigger plodders there were not the tweener type, some of the best to do it I might add, Randy White, Howie Long etc.. but there were a whole bunch of outside guys who were just like todays edge tweener pass rushers. I would bet the amount of great or above average edge pass rushers in that era is as good as todays. LT, Haley, Mann, Jackson, Swilling, Greene, gastineau etc. On par (or better) than todays best. again, Joe Jacoby had to block LT, Jim Jeffcoat (plus all the other cowboy rushers), the eagles fronts with buddy ryan in the division plus Ken Harvey a pretty good player for the cardinals in that era. Had I mentioned a bunch of guys from the 60s I would get your point but since it was guys from the 80s and 90s your point doesn't really hold water especially since these guys had to actually block LT regularly. -

It sucks that all those tickets were available on the secondary market and it kind of flies in the face of Buffalo being the little guy and speaks poorly on the fans selling for profit. Have to get used to it though because after next year it will be the norm in the new place when 50% of the fans will be visiting teams fans. -

I assure you those guys I mentioned played against some great pass rushers. The edge rusher term really came from the amount of teams playing multiple fronts on defense....is he a 4-3 end or a 3-4 OLB.....turned into Edge or Edge rusher. Taylor is the greatest to ever rush the paser but there were a lot of guys who were great at it in the 80s and 90s the era of the guys I posted. Jacoby for instance played his entire career blocking LT twice a year and then a few times again in the playoffs. Bubba paris had to play against all the greats with the niners winning so many titles and being in the playoffs every year but in the regular season he had to play rickey jackson and pat swilling twice a year and kevin greene once he showed up in LA. I could go on about pass rushers in the 80's most of whom played olb in a 34 front and some who were the exact size of todays tweeners who played in a 4-3. Mark Gastineau, Charles Mann, Charles Haley, Richard Dent, Clay Matthews, LT, Pat Swilling, Rickey Jackson, Karl Mecklenburg, Kevn Greene etc. -

McDermott told Sal Not Playing, Keon, Kincaid, Milano. spencer and cooper are limited and questionable. Long term for kincaid? He is week to week. They will know more about Spencer today and he is day to day. -
what I am saying is this is an important game. Historically the team that wins this one has won the rematch in the playoffs. Not really that hard like say three peating. why is reading hard? I put it pretty simply with the history. This is a historical matchup and the history says there is a good chance they see each other again and the team that won the regular season then won the post season matchup. also, none of the teams trying for a 3peat have ever won more than ten games in a row so KC is really on the verge of making history here.
-
an additional note, none of the teams trying for a three peat ever had a winning streak longer than 10. The 1994 SF 49ers had a 10 game win streak before losing week 16. The 1990 SF 49ers started 10-0 before losing week 12 to the Rams. The 1976 Pittsburgh steelers finished the season with a 9 game winning streak then won the AFC divisional playoff game before losing. So the chiefs will be making all kinds of history if this continues.

So of the Back to Back Super Bowl Champions in history FIVE made the playoffs the following season, FOUR played teams in the playoffs that they played during the regular season. THREE of those teams lost both the regular season matchup and then the rematch in the playoffs. SF in 1990 won the regular season game and then lost the playoff game. Only Miami in 1974 lost to an opponent they were playing for the first time that season (Oakland). Here are the back to back super bowl champs in the history of the NFL and how their three peat season ended. KC 2022-2023? NE 03-04 Denver 97-98 SF 88-89 Dallas 92-93 Pittsburgh 78-79 Pittsburgh 74-75 Miami 72-73 GB 66-67 This is how the teams playing for their third straight finished their season. NE 05 Lost at Denver Divisional Round 27-13 Denver 99 6-10 missed playoff (Elway Retired) Dallas 94 lost at SF NFC Championship Game 38-28 (Jimmy Johnson Quit) SF 90 Lost at home in the NFC Championship game to NY 15-13 (Montana Knocked Out) Pittsburgh 80 9-7 missed playoff for the first time since 1971 Pittsburgh 76 Lost at Oakland AFC Championship Game 24-7 (Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier did not play after being injured the week before at Baltimore) Miami 74 lost at Oakland in the divisional playoffs 28-26 (Sea of Hands Game) GB 68 Missed playoffs at 6-7-1 (Vince Lombardi stepped down as head coach before season and only made the playoffs two more times until 1992) In 2005 New England played at Denver (October 16th) and lost 28-20, later they lost 27-13 in the divisional round. In 1994 Dallas played at San Francisco (November 13th) and lost 21-14, later they lost 38-28 in the nfc championship game. In 1990 San Francisco hosted NY for MNF winning 7-3, (December3rd, Both teams 10-1) later they lost 15-13 at home to NY in the NFC Championship Game. In 1976 Pittsburgh played at Oakland (September 12th) and lost 31-28, later they lost 24-7 at Oakland in the AFC Championship game. In 1974 Miami lost to Oakland in the divisional round but did not play in the regular season. So history tells us there is a good chance KC and Buffalo will meet again in the playoffs. History also thinks the winner will win the second matchup. Within each of those matchups there is some sort of monumental history with the game or the teams themselves. Elway retiring, Montana getting knocked out, Franco Harris_Rocky Bleier being injured, the sea of hands game etc. Sunday is going to be a great day. I hope we all can enjoy it! History says it's an important game.

All those 80s 90s guys were pretty amazing. Munoz, joe Jacoby, Bubba Paris, Jumbo Elliot, jackie slater. Loved those redskins lines. -
Jon Gruden now employed by Barstool Sports

Everyone involved with the 90s Green Bay Packers suck. The exception I think is Holmgren. He seems decent. The rest suck the big one and we had to watch the nfl for over a decade while these morons kept getting jobs as coaches and the players kept getting arrested etc. also isn't everyone in florida a swinger? The whole place is as gross as the 90s packers.- 54 replies

Anyway, I wonder how his guitar lessons are going with Jon Bon Jovi. He must be able to play wanted dead or alive by now. -

So what? Didn't the chiefs lose to basically every good team they played last year and then went and won 3 games in a row and were champions? This honestly the most foolish argument that exists among the fandom right now. The history of the league is littered with teams who beat up on bad teams then won super bowls or went deep into the playoffs. -

You can't compare anything the Broncos did vs the chiefs to what it will happen sunday. They are polar opposites defensively. Maybe the Bills will steal something denver did on a third down or something sunday but generally Denvers defense kept them on their heels. Buffalo can not do that. -

From listening to Buffalo plus this morning and WGR on and off throughout the day apparently the talking point of the day is Allen is struggling and doesn't look like himself and Dalton Kincaid is a JAG who does nothing to help the team. Pretty absurd takes. But hey I guess there isn't much to talk about this week. -
I don't have any problem with it. I will say though the guy who made the statement didn't like people pointing out the reality of his accomplishments. He seemed pretty salty with the media the week of the playoff game in Buffalo last year and after the game. Didn't seem to like the question/thought from the media about why they haven't won a playoff game in so long and whether or not he would be back as the coach. So while he is laughing today if it goes sour for him and people say similar things about him and the steelers I hope he keeps that sense of humor.
