I think it's a mistake for you to brand all anonymity as the same. Brady is allowing anonymity with the intention of encouraging honest feedback from his players. There are other reasons to encourage anonymity. Ultimately right and wrong will be determined by how his offense performs but I'm certainly not gonna judge his methods when he hasn't yet created an offense of his own. I'm not that smart that I can predict disaster before it happens.

As @dave mcbride said, you have to read the entire article. This is not forming a "democracy"... it's being collaborative with heavily-invested stakeholders who are high-level professionals... instead of simply dictating to them. If you've ever played organized team sports you've probably seen instances where the coach was wrong or didn't have his finger on the pulse. "Spencer Brown noted how demoralizing it can be to receive a play script at the end of the week and see a call they know won’t work. So the offense strives to show Brady its gratitude for not being that way. He simplified Dorsey’s playbook and introduced a more universal philosophy to understand what, how and why."

Good info, Mr Info. Do you happen to know who ended up winning this?

1) There's zero funny about someone getting shot. 2) Injecting politics into the reply is a) not allowed here and b) guaranteed to annoy as many people as those who think it's funny. Don't do it.

Yes and I would be in favor of a mod doing this if the OP ghosts the topic. It’s for the good of the community and an example of when moderator intervention would be justified.

Hmmmm... seems like someone should put a call in to Rex. Ed Zachary. Pro sports is closer to a meritocracy than most industries. Having played and followed sports for a long time I would not call it "true."

Bobby Babich to call Bills' Defense

He does like giving credit to others. Even terrorists! Dude is 41 years old and goes by "Bobby." I hope he calls a good game and that he puts his toys away before bedtime. -

1) Wiki was right! 2) Vandalism sucks. -
This needs to be mentioned and not buried in the "ESPN Player Survey" topic. The Athletic, in its newsletter "The Pulse" polled its readers with the question: Which QB would you rather have quarterbacking your team, Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson? Unfortunately The Athletic is a paid subscription so I can't link it... and moreover there is not yet an article accompanying the poll, just the email newsletter "The Pulse." Finally no figures are given as to the number of respondents, only the percentages. The results... Allen 63.8% Jackson 36.2% From the email newsletter "The Pulse": "Just, wow This was, frankly, unexpected. Pulse readers overwhelmingly would take Josh Allen over Lamar Jackson, a stunning blowout that leaves me with more questions than before. I almost wish we had included a box to explain reasoning. Two points to make: Jackson and Allen are truly the ideal comparison partners. Both entered the league in 2018, are dynamic dual-threat QBs and have generally played on winning teams. Both have made it as far as the AFC title game, but the progress stops there. Allen leads in total yards (26,314 vs. 21,145) and, per our point yesterday, has been a little more durable. He’s played in 94 games to Jackson’s 86. And yet, Jackson has two MVPs. Allen has zero. I just don’t see how Allen is such a bigger favorite, but I digress. Las Vegas agrees with you all, too: Allen (+850) has the second-highest MVP odds this year per BetMGM, while Jackson (+2000) is down at No. 10. Woof." Chris Branch On a related note, The Athletic's Mike Sando did his annual Quarterback Tiers. Again this is behind a paywall. "The 2024 QB Tiers results are here, complete with commentary from the 50 NFL coaches and executives who were granted anonymity to share candid evaluations. The panel consisted of seven general managers, eight head coaches, 12 coordinators, 12 executives, eight assistant coaches and three involved in coaching/analytics. Each voter placed 30 veteran quarterbacks into five tiers, from best (Tier 1) to worst (Tier 5). Quarterbacks were then ranked by average vote and placed into tiers based on vote distribution, beginning with Mahomes, whose 1.00 average vote reflected his status as the only unanimous Tier 1 selection. No QBs landed in Tier 5, although some received Tier 5 votes. The survey excludes rookies because voters have not seen them play in the NFL." Tier 1 (Quarterback can carry his team each week. The team wins because of him. He expertly handles pure-passing situations. He has no real holes in his game). Patrick Mahomes Joe Burrow Josh Allen Tier 2 (Quarterback can carry his team sometimes but not as consistently. He can handle pure-passing situations in doses and/or possesses other dimensions that are special enough to elevate him above Tier 3. He has a hole or two in his game). Lamar Jackson Matthew Stafford Justin Herbert Aaron Rodgers CJ Stroud Dak Prescott Jared Goff Jalen Hurts Brock Purdy Kirk Cousins Jordan Love

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bobby-babich-will-call-the-bills-defensive-plays "Bills head coach Sean McDermott has made a decision about who will call the team’s defensive plays this year. McDermott had that responsibility last year, but he left things open after promoting Bobby Babich to defensive coordinator earlier this year. That remained the case through the summer, but the season opener is now a little more than a week away and McDermott has settled on Babich being the voice this time around. “What I like about Bobby is our experience together and the wisdom he has, both as a secondary coach and a linebacker coach,” McDermott told Ryan O’Halloran of the Buffalo News. “I just feel like he’s a growth-minded individual and coach, and that’s the right approach.” The Bills parted ways with a number of players who played prominent roles on their run of division champions this offseason and they hope the rejiggered roster can continue to have the same kind of success. The move to Babich is another significant change and Week One’s matchup with the Cardinals is the first chance to see how it is all coming together."

According to Wiki, he's a Buffalo Bill. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jalen_Virgil Cliff Notes version: Small school (Appalachian State). In his final season, he caught 15 passes for 226 yards (15.1 yards per reception) and one touchdown and returned 26 kickoffs for a school-record 781 yards (30.04 yards per return) and two touchdowns. Was not invited to the combine. Put up impressive numbers during his Pro Day but went undrafted. Was signed by Denver. Made the Broncos' initial 53-man roster out of training camp. On November 13, 2022, Virgil scored a 66-yard touchdown on his first career reception during a 17–10 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Last preseason on August 22, 2023, Virgil was placed on injured reserve (torn meniscus), ending his season. 2022 Highlights (includes preseason):

To evaluate him more closely to try to ensure you're making the right decision. As you suggest they do have a lot in common. Both Murphy and Toohill played at Stanford and both spent the bulk of their careers (4 seasons each) with the Washington Football Team. Physically they're also very comparable with Toohill having generally better measurables: Murphy 6'6" 260 lbs 33 7/8" arms forty: 4.86 10 yd split: 1.65 bench press: 19 reps vertical: 35.5" broad jump: 9'10" Toohill 6'5" 255 lbs 33 1/2" arms forty: 4.62 10 yd split: 1.59 bench press: 17 reps vertical: 39" broad jump: 10'6" Murphy was a more highly-rated recruit and had a more decorated college career and was drafted in the 2nd round. Toohill was drafted in the 7th round. In 86 career games (57 starts) Murphy had 26 career sacks. In 57 career games (14 starts) Toohill has 7 sacks including 5 in 8 starts last year. I'm thinking Beane's gonna get much greater value with Toohill than he did with Murphy.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/earnings/_/id/22022/eli-ankou On the other hand, $3.45 million in career earnings in 9 years. After taxes that's a take home of about $220K/year. If he retires with his health it's a good gig and cool life experience. I predict Columbus Day, October 14th. He's a Braive young man. Then shouldn't you dislike their parents? Toohill played 14 snaps this preaseason. He didn't make the team based on his preseason performance, he made the team based on his pre-Bills career. Toohill, Dawuane Smoot, Austin Johnson, Nicholas Morrow, Mack Hollins, and Mike Edwards were the veterans brought in to solidify the roster. In years past it was guys like Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson. And Toohill is more proven and likely better than Kingsley Jonathan.

Even a broken clock finds an acorn twice a day... or something about a squirrel... Anyways I think so too... or maybe not... I hope some of the expert posters here will validate my opinion. Denzel Mims 6'3" 207 lbs 33 7/8" arms 9 3/8" hands 4.38 in the forty 1.51 10 yard split 38.5" vertical jump 10' 11" broad jump 2020 2nd Round pick (Jets, 27th overall) 🙃

One of the little inside jokes here in our community is that when a player with some name recognition becomes available (cut, waived, on the trade market, etc) a topic is inevitable created for that player (i.e. - Mike White). The more jaded among us have denigrated such topics, particularly for players we think/know are washed up by posting "I've heard of him!" This implies that it's only casual, uninformed fans that start such topics and more knowledgable fans would never do so because ("we know") said player is a "has been" or "never was." I figured we can put all these players in the same bucket. There are currently topics for QB Mike White and for disgruntled LB Ernest Jones IV. Here's another one we've all heard of... Denzel Mims... an elite and highly-drafted athlete who became expendable in part because the Jaguars signed Gabriel Davis as a free agent. Mims' measurables are off the chats and hey... I've heard of him!!! https://www.nfl.com/prospects/denzel-mims/32004d49-4d62-4399-5aee-b92ce1fc40e6 Please join the fun... or don't.
