Wasn’t part of the decision to draft Bishop because Kincaid said he was so tough to go against at Utah? Turns out Kincaid would’ve said the same thing about the blocking sled. (this topic based on a Zapruder pic is both ridiculous and too fun to pass up)

Obviously anything can happen, but Vegas win totals predict: -AFC East opponents are all 500 or worse. NE on the rise. Jets on the descent. Miami still Miami. -NFC South is a struggle fest with Tampa as a 9.5 win Division champ. -Steelers and Cleveland still in QB purgatory. -Home schedule is dynamite! Games against 4 predicted Division champs (Balt, KC, Philly, TB) plus Cincy who carves McD zones up like air. Hopefully home field advantage is huge and we close the old stadium with some massive wins. Vegas Win Totals in parentheses with my subjective Win/Loss/Toss-Up HOME: Baltimore Ravens (11.5, Loss) Cincinnati Bengals (9.5, Loss) Kansas City Chiefs (11.5, Toss Up) Miami Dolphins (8.5, Win) New England Patriots (7.5, Win) New Orleans Saints (6.5, Win) New York Jets (5.5, Win) Philadelphia Eagles (11.5, Toss Up) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9.5, Toss Up) AWAY: Atlanta Falcons (7.5, Win) Carolina Panthers (6.5, Win) Cleveland Browns (4.5, Win) Houston Texans (9.5, Toss Up) Miami Dolphins (8.5, Sept Liquid IV Game = Toss Up, Oct-Jan = Win) New England Patriots (7.5, Toss Up) New York Jets (5.5, Win) Pittsburgh Steelers (8.5, Win) I'm seeing 9 Wins, 2 Losses, 6 Toss Ups.

It's both. McD is super predictable. Beane reloads but with versions of the same guy every year. Big, slow, stiff DEs that don't have the bend or speed to create pressure when it counts (Epenesa, Basham, Rousseau, now Jackson). Small DTs that get swallowed by power run teams (Oliver, Carter, now Sanders). I'm sure it's partially because it's what McD wants for his scheme. But these prototypes range from busts to JAGs to 2nd contract but not pro-bowlers.

Kids zoom around our neighborhood in them all the time. 10-12 year olds driving with all their friends piled on. Will be 0% surprised to eventually hear of a bad accident.

Andrew Van Ginkel gets paid. One year $23 Million extension

Chop Robinson was great in the second half of the season as a rookie. Think he’ll be a terror this year. I’d take him over any of the above in a heartbeat. -
Yep. Have been through many of these and they often lead to reducing talent in organizations. As a generalization… High performers who feel good about their prospects outside often take the severance and find a new job quickly. Then often return with a promotion once their required time away passes. Low performers who don’t feel great about their prospects outside do not take the severance.

I hate the Bengals, think their ownership is bush league... but I actually don't think this is a terrible decision. Go all in on impact players and hope you draft / find cheap vets to fill the gaps. Think of all the lesser-impact players Beane spends $ on. I'd rather have Higgins than Roussea + Ogonjubi. I'd rather have Chase than Shakir + Palmer + Hoecht + Bosa. Out of those guys Shakir is the only one above average. The rest are JAGs that you can pick up anywhere. Hope our signings are better than I'm expecting and I eat my words...

Bobby Babich to call Bills' Defense
WeckMonster replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
This drives me INSANE. The safeties are literally so far back that WRs catch 25 yard passes 5 yards in front of our safeties. And this is with our CBs giving a cushion. I just don't understand the need to be THAT conservative. It's like playing 9 on 11 most plays. -
Insanely terrible calls. That’s how you coach blocking. Along with Rapp, the refs had it in their mind that something must’ve happened as opposed to calling what they saw. Which is amateur behavior. The rule book basically allows for holding or PI flags on every play. That’s the point of having competent refs… know the difference.

Spencer Brown has highest snap count on team
WeckMonster replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall
Your overall point is right on. Those illegal formations are called on the Tackle but it's b/c a WR or TE lined up wrong. -
10/20/24 Game 7 GAMEDAY Bills vs Titans 1st half thread
WeckMonster replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Losing at home to 1-5 TN with a backup QB when you’ve recovered a fumble in their territory cannot happen without fireable coaching by our staff. It’s completely incoherent on offense and complete lack of adjustment in defense. -
McD values reliability. He probably views Bishop’s blown coverage as a big reason they lost to Houston. But how do you get better without playing? He should put Bishop in 10 snaps/game and have him do what he’s good at… man coverage on TE/RB, Blitz. And add snaps each game. cant use a 2nd rounder and still have Hamlin playing all the snaps.

Diggs contract was going to age like milk as he’s already started to decline. We’re basically even in 2024 and will be in a better place 2025 and beyond (assuming we can get a #1 WR in 25, Shakir/Coleman improve, etc)
-
We’ve run a lot of 6 OL instead of 2 TE. Assume the thinking is they’re not going to throw to Knox anyway so might as well maximize blocking.

Kickers are so good now I’m confident there are league min salary dudes off the street better than Bass. It destroys team morale to trot out someone who everyone knows has zero business being on the team. “Everyone needs to compete and meet a standard… except Bass”. That doesn’t fly.

Mini rebuild. Why is anyone that surprised?
WeckMonster replied to Blackbeard's topic in The Stadium Wall
Article from 2023 below. Your anecdotes are the exceptions, not the rule. Quote: The lack of continuity extends to offensive coordinators because 46 of the 69 head coaches hired have come from that side of the ball. In the last five years, it’s 25 of 37, so essentially two of every three coaches hired have an offensive background. In the last four cycles, it was 21 of 30. -

WeckMonster replied to Blackbeard's topic in The Stadium Wall
Successful Offensive Coordinators become Head Coaches. So McDermott will always have either a subpar Offense, or be hiring a new OC with a new system, etc. There's basically no scenario where McDermott will be able to have a Championship window with OC continuity. Chiefs won't have that problem. Their D's been great but nobody's hiring Spagnolo as HC. So D stays strong. And with Reid and Mahomes continuity you can get away with injuries, cutting stars, journeyman lineman, 6th round running backs, etc. That extends championship windows. Just look at McDermott's defensive continuity. Every year, catastrophic injuries are managed b/c Beane can get the exact profile McDermott wants to plug and play UDFAs, etc and get by. -

Offensive head coach. Hit on draft picks. Avoided bad contracts. Bills have a DC as head coach. wasted high picks on Basham, Elam, Epanesa, etc. Bad contracts for Von, Knox, Bass, etc. Diggs debacle. We are where we are. Can’t throw good $ after bad chasing above avg this year. -

What did you want them to say? “This is a bad roster. We hope to get some positive surprises and a couple lucky breaks, but that’s what it would take to be a threat.” -
9 men defending the play. 2 participating in an entirely different game near the goal line for a reason only understood by McDermott So when every yard counts and giving up 5 yards basically equals a loss…. You want to play 9 on 11? Gotta go cover zero. Force a bad throw, maybe get a sack or pick

Worst (regular season) coached game in the entire McD era
WeckMonster replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Why the F were we defending the Hail Mary when everyone knew Houston wanted 5-10 yards and to kick a FG?!?!? That was absolutely fireable on its own. Should’ve been cover zero bringing the house -
Did Beane Fail Josh and the fan base?
WeckMonster replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't blame you for being skeptical! Here's a couple reasons to believe: -we've had a Super Bowl roster the past few years but the stars didn't align (bad coaching 13 seconds, injuries, etc.) -we need 4 things to win a Super Bowl next year: (1) avoid cluster injuries like last year and this year, (2) a Pass Rusher, (3) a #1 WR, (4) a Kicker. Injuries are luck. Proven Edge can probably be traded for or signed in FA. We should have cap space and/or draft capital to do either. WR can be found in the draft esp. if we're picking top 20. Could also find as a FA. FG can only go up, even if signing a guy off the street. Just have to eat Bass contract which we'll be able to do. I'm sure we'll need to fill some gaps (RB, Safety, maybe backup LT or DT) but those are run of the milll roster moves. -

Our roster is much worse this year. The margin for error is super low and it took 4 weeks for that to be realized. This year will be frustrating b/c the rest of the league is not great and our Division is really not great. The Bills teams of the last few years would probably win it all this year. I'd argue the Chiefs weren't great last year and aren't great this year. I refuse to believe Sam Darnold can win a Super Bowl... but is he really worse than Purdy? Purdy almost won. Next year should be our year. More cap flexibility. Haul of draft picks. Probably mid-round picks instead of late round. Make it happen... -
Good Lord, Lamar basically walked into the end zone untouched on a run from inside the 10. How is that possible? Hamlin got completely wiped out by a WR. 99% of safeties would destroy the block and at least make Lamar work to get in the end zone. That play I officially gave up on Hamlin. I'll take anyone else.

Good signing. Not sure why people are convinced Grable and Van Denmark could step in anytime soon. They’ve proven absolutely nothing. Will always be in favor of investing in the Oline and edge rushers.
