i understand. I'd have done the same thing. By the way, we do put stuffed animals in the cages of singleton kittens at the rescue so that they can cuddle up to something. It makes a huge difference.

Here is the problem with rostering VD over someone like Ken Green; the Bills have three inside OL starters in Edwards, Torrence and McGovern, but with SVPG injured the only back is Anderson and he is not a center. VD, Lundt and Grable are not inside players. This is why I have Green making this team right now.

Haters are going to hate. It’s not rational. I don’t know how well the deal will workout, but I suspect it be fine. Assuming he stays healthy, I can easily see us getting 3 good years from him. If that happens, the contract will be a bargain. Remember he had a light work load in college leaving more tread on the tire for the NFL. The presence of Davis and Johnson lessen Cook’s work load as well and imho make it more likely he’ll stay healthy and be a major contributor over the life of the deal. I’m glad this is over and find it funny that there are many posts already trying to trade Cook.

My wife and I volunteer at a cat rescue. I know how it works. I am on the transport and adoption teams. I help retrieve cats from animal control and then, when healthy, help get them adopted. We have also fostered over a dozen cats until they were adopted.

I think Moore and Green make the team right now as someone on the current injury list won’t be ready for opening day besides SVPG. Given the injuries to Brown, Dawkins, Anderson and SVPG along the OL, Green is my current 53rd player as SVPG replacement. With Samuel and Shakir already nicked up, Moore looks like the next option, but right now I have Shenault winning the KR job and Shavers making the team as both play Special teams. Thompson’s injury status could open the door for Ulofoshio. I have Shavers over Moore because of size, special teams, and I think he can grow into a Hollins type role on the Bills. His 68 yard catch and run last season still resonates with me and by all accounts he's had a very good camp. I am curious which two guys along the D-line could get axed when the suspended players return. I doubt we carry 12 players along the DL.

I don't think anyone dislikes Damar, most just wish he was a backup rather than starter. Here Cook is enemy no 1 for reasons that don't make any sense.

No, not necessarily. Late round picks would qualify especially since the Bills are a perennial contender can limit opportunities for late picks and UDFAs. Certainly Grable was a bit of a surprise last year. Hawes is kind of borderline for me. I watched him often at GA Tech and am not surprised at all that he is making an impression. He was fantastic against UGA last year. For those who aren't into college ball, I can very much see him as a surprise. When I wrote the OP, I was thinking UDFAs, cheap vets and camp invitees, but thinking about it further late rounds picks work as well.

Every year there seems to be a little known player or 2 (usually a UDFA or a camp invitee) who make the team or have a great camp and make their way on to the PS. Last year it was Buffalo Joe and Shavers. Admittedly, I haven’t focused on the camp news, but it seems two WRs have impressed (Wilkerson & Gosnell). Anyone else?

Williams is a year younger and more of a work horse back. Cook is faster, a better pass catcher, but not as much of an every down back. Market price for Cook now set. Their stats are nearly identical. Both are 3 years in the NFL. Both were seldom used as rookies. Here are their stats for the last two years Cook: Rushing: yards 2131, TDs 18. Receiving 703 yards, 6 TDs. Scrimmage total 2834 24 TDs. Williams: Rushing: yards 2443, TDs 26. Receiving 388 yards, 5 TDs. Scrimmage total 2831 31 TDs. By the way Williams is 5'9 202 4.65 40. He'll turn 25 in a few weeks. Played College ball at ND and had 419 Rushing attempts in college Cook is 5'11 190, ran 4.42 40 and turns 26 in Sept. Played college ball at UGA and had only 230 carries in college.

No the Bills don't hold all the cards. Cook is essential to this team competing for a Super Bowl. The drop off from Cook to Davis is significant. I suspect the deal gets down sooner than later.

Of course it's business. Except top QBs, all NFL players have a limited shelf life. Got to get paid when you can.

You can't reach that conclusion. The only thing you can say for sure is that the coaches think the best use of Shakir on the Bills is in the slot and as Josh's safety valve.

Who knows. He hasn't been given that opportunity. He has very similar physical size and slightly better speed than Diggs. Diggs was very successful as an outside receiver. Personally, I'd like to see Shakir given an opportunity to get outside, but he's such a safety valve for Josh, I doubt he gets the chance. At worst, I'd like to see Shakir get some deeper patterns like McConkey and Nucua. Given his good speed, I think he can be more of a down the field threat like McConkey and Nucua. That said, I doubt their are 30 "better" players listed as WRs . Certainly he is the most valuable receiver to the reigning NFL MVP and that counts a great deal more to me than comparing him to Chase or Jefferson.

Among WRs Shakir was 35th in total receiving yards, 21st in receptions, 34th in targets, 2nd in total yards after catch (YAC) and 5th in Catch%. At worst he is in the top 35. Given his catch % and YAC, I'd argue he's closer to top 25. I apologize for using facts/stats from which to base my opinion.

I agree+, although he didn’t draft Milano. Benford, Brown, and Cook are all HR picks. Shakir is one 1000 yard season from going from a triple to a HR especially given where he was drafted. Every GM has duds, the question is how many good players does the draft produce and considering we have been in a playoff spot the last 6 years, the amount of talent Beane is finding every year is pretty amazing. They had 20 players from the 5 draft from 2020 to 2024 on the roster including 10 starters most in key positions, including Cook, Benford, Bernard, Shakir, Brown, Torrence and Rousseau.
