  1. Let's stop the would of and could of stuff. How about a front office that recognizes talent and has a clue? Bring in better talent and that will make our coach and QB look good. Start drafting good blockers and tacklers and build a foundation.
  2. You proved nothing. In fact, the great Gregg Williams says he wanted to draft Brees in Buffalo with his frst pick. John Butler considered Brees first round material when he drafted him at San Diego. Drew Brees on the the Bills, with last seasons support cast, would have been better than Edwards but still no playoffs. It is highly unlikely Brees would have developed into the QB he is today had Greggo Williams drafted him as he so arrogantly states he would have. To develop a QB you need a line. You need playmakers. You need a consistentcy in the offense you are running to enable the critical learning that all young QBs go through.
  3. No. Wrong. Before the play in the end zone Clements failed to knock down a pass on 4th down and long. He tried for a pick and the Jaq re ceiever reach over and stole the ball from him to keep the drive alive.
  4. Lets build the lines first. We do not have one legitimate proven NFL starting tackle on our roster. There are few, if any, marquee QBs in this draft. None of them look to be blue chip prospects like Manning or Elway. Why waste pick 9 and 41 on a QB when we need so much help in other areas? Lets improve our talent on the OL and in the defensive front 7, get a stop gap QB for now, look for the QB of the future next year.
  5. Don't agree at all. The Saints amd a gutsy call on the onside kick, they had the element of surprise, and they we fortunate. One team made more big plays, that team was the Saints.
  6. Boo hoo. We did not "tick" anything off of a list. Sounds like you raised your beer a few times already.
  7. There are no QBs in that draft that I covet. If McClain is gone I would agree with your scenario of 1 and 2. If McClain is there at 9 I take him. So then what do you do at 41? It would be hard to pass on Cody but how do we address LT?
  8. I am from Buffalo and have lived in several major cities in the US that have (or had) football franchises (such as Los Angeles, Baltimore and St. Louis). After a few Super Bowl losses the Bills were seen as lovable losers and many people across the country wanted to see them win one. Those days are gone so why should people live in the past and sympathize for those missed oppottunites? More important is not to dismiss those teams and to recognize their greatness. Which, by the way, the national media does do. Today there is no hate or general dislike toward the Bills, they are simply irrelevant because they have not seen the post season in 10 years and they have very few star players. What you do see is a paranoia among many Buffalonians that their city and their team is not up to par. I sense a hyper-sensitivity even on these boards that everything directed toward Buffalo is taken as a diss (i.e. TO's recent comments about it being cold in Buffalo made its own thread). Buffalo, as a city, needs to bring itself out of the doldrums and revive itself. Buffalo, the city, should stop using the Bills as the major barameter to measure itself ... that is really selling Buffalo short. It is a great city with so much potential.
  9. I reluctantly say keep him. We have way too many needs to be chasing another RB. I suppose we can get lucky and find on in the mid to late rounds but you cannot count on that. Freddie is getting some age and miles and we need two starting caliber running backs.
  10. 1,000 yards was a very big deal back then. Not like today were it is just above average. Still, I am surprised that his stats aren't better. He was an excellent player and always a threat when on the field. This shows you how huge OJ Simpson's 2,000 yard season actually was.
  11. I do not recall that the Sr. Committee has ever considered Cookie. Cookie was amazing but he retired before the AFL-NFL merger and did not play in the NFL. There are other "AFL only" players that would be considered just as deserving as Cookie. One being Tom Sestak, the leader of the Buffalo defense in their championship years. He too is on the All Time AFL Team. Players on the All Time AFL team are honored in Canton, There is a very nice AFL exhibit there, so Cookie and Sestak and all the other AFL stars have a presence there. Billy Shaw is the only player ever inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame without ever playing in the NFL. Cookie did turn down the CFL HoF. A typical thing for Cookie to do. My opinion ... CFL players should not be admitted into the AFL HoF. It is a different game and 99% of the players in that league could not make todays NFL. The Stadium Wall at "The Ralph" should definitely inlcude Cookie and Lou Saban. Ralph was very upset with Saban after he quit the second time. Apparently Ralph can hold a grudge. It is a horrible shame that Lou has passed away with being honored. I do not know why Cookie is not honored, could be Ralph again?
  12. Hope not. Especially if McClain and Bulaga are on the board.
  13. Thankfully numbers alone don't cut. Reed was the better player. He played outdoors and that effects his numbers some. One of the writers in St. Louis, who is voting member, said that Reed was the best slot receiver EVER, and that his YAC numbers are second only to Rice. Carter is known to be a me first guy.
  14. I like your posts. This one reinforces the fact that we have too many needs to adequately address in one draft. Hopefully we can fill a few holes via free agency. The change to a 3-4 does not sound like a good idea given that our current roster has so few players in the front 7 that can play it. Maybe that is something the Bills can do the following year while stockpiling some 3-4 talent this year?
  15. Actually WR is one of the better stories in Bills history. On the positive side we picked up Lofton, a HOF guy, from waivers. Tasker was a waiver pick up. We traded for Rashad and for Frank Lewis. Billy Brooks was a decent FA pick up. We have drafted some greats too like Jerry Butler, Eric Moulds, JD Hill, Bobby Chandler, Don Bebee, Lee Evans, Marlin Briscoe and Haven Moses. Heck, throw in Glenn Bass was Elbert Dubenion too. Offensive Gaurd is another strong area. Billy Shaw and Joe D are in the HoF. Jim Ritcher and Rueben Brown were great. Reggie McKenzie too.
  16. They may be all over the map but finding all those HoF guys is indeed the tough part. The Bills have 1 (Reed) in 50 years of existence. There are many 1st and 2nd round busts at WR. Intelligence is key in todays game because, as you said, passing has become the focus and WRs are in demand and defenses are complex. Which lends credence to my statement that is it easier to find a good RB than a good WR in today's game.
  17. Nice to dream but with a cap they did not spend beyond the cash-to-cap level. Why would they go beyond ? Ask Danny Synder how buying that championship is working out. I would be happy with 1 big name player (maybe someone that can help us transition to 3-4) and 5 mid-tier solid, veterans to shore up the many, many holes on this team.
  18. First time I have ever heard this claim. I would say RB is much easier. WR is actually a difficult position to fill. Many early round picks go bust or take years to develop because they cannot read defensive coverages and learn the complex offenses.
  19. Yes, I saw that one. The biggest things I like about Fitz is leadership, guts, and willingness to make plays like that. Too bad his arm is not any better.
  20. Let see here, in no particular order we need the following: QB, Left OT, a giant run stuffing Nose Tackle, DE's that can play a 3-4, Linebackers that can run and tackle, a backup RB to replace Lynch, and WRs to replace TO and Josh Reed. Buddy better hit the Free Agent market hard because this list will take 3 drafts to fill. Open the wallet Ralph.
  21. You really dissed Elbert "Golden Wheels" Dubenion by giving his name to Fitz.
  22. So you don't like him? The biggest issue in losing him is having to replace him. We need a QB and a LT. We have very little LB talent. We are supposedly switching to a 3-4 but do not have the lineman to do it. Now add RB to our list of holes.
  23. Look at what's happend to that nice kid that came to Buffalo with his Mama? What a waste. I would take a 2 in a heartbeat; or trade straight up for a known player that could us somewhere. More tough choices for Buddy and Chan. My opinion has consistently been to keep him and have two solid RBs. This is the first I have heard that he is not liked in the locker room. Doesn't surprise me though. Another "character guy" that really isn't.
