  1. Seems a bit harsh. I team with at least 5 Hall of Fame players on the field, plus a HoF coach, plus another 10 or so players that made pro bowls and Jeff Wright is getting the blame? Wow!
  2. I think that in the long run Wood will be the better player for us. I like his skill, his maturity, his leadership and his attitude. Lets not base the trade results on one season and a random event like the broken leg. Had Peters broke his leg would you be ready to declare that the Bills got the best of the trade? Lets look at this trade 5 years down the road and see. Nelson looks like a good TE to me. How can you criticize a fourth round pick for not cracking the starting line up? When Nelson did start start he graded out well. He needs work on his blocking but I like what I saw overall. He knows how to get open and he has excellent speed and hands. He could be great in the red zone if we can ever build a complete offense. Look forward.
  3. I think Trent improved steadily and then he started to regress but whatever. I'm not going to argue with a blanket statement.
  4. NGU - I like what you said (see bold above). The rebuilding of the Buffalo Bills will take a few years. I just don't think the FO can turn this team into an 11-5 team like Miami did two years ago. I would not mind seeing what Trent can do in a Jauron-less environment. Maybe Gailey can help him? If Trent does not cut it then we address QB next year. Meanwhile, lets add more talent to less risky areas and we are sure to fill some holes. Left Tackle and Nose Tackle are in dire need. It is difficult to draft to a "Best Player" philosophy when we have so many needs.
  5. Agree. Let's move on.
  6. You sure throw out a lot of history for 1 play. Yes - Royal screwed up and failed to make a routine play. If he makes the catch we still have to close out the game, something we have problems doing. Trent outplayed JP when he was given the chance That is why Losman lost his job. JP tried hard, he did good things for the city, etc, etc. For whatever reason his decision making on the field was poor and he did not establish himself as the leader of the offense. You use hindsight to see that Trent has regressed. I do not know why Trent has regressed so badly in the past season but I'll bet that working for 3 OC's in three years and playing behind that joke of an OL has a little bit to do with it.
  7. The trading of Whitner/Lynch never stops on TSW. If we trade Lynch we create another hole. If we trade Whitner we weaken a strength. I can only see trading one of these players if we get a solid starter at LT, WR, or NT in return. I am not talking about old players on the ir downside either, I am talking about young players with many years ahead. Trading either of them for draft picks is risky.
  8. Agree 100% LT is a priority in this draft.
  9. He was a solid fullback. Good blocker who could get the tough yards and even catch a few passes.
  10. Jack Kemp. San Diego Chargers, 1962. Kemp was a top prospect and they were pissed when Saban grabbed him.
  11. Great post and research. Don't aplogize for it. So, as a football fan, who you really think we will draft?
  12. Check my posts. I never said I was "excited" or I "think he could be something". Once again, a practice squad player is only "available" if the team that is going to acquire him puts him on their active 53 man roster. Don't know what you mean by available "for nothing". The acquireing team has to make an offer and the club that he is with has the right to counter it. What I did say is that I have no clue as to whether Brohm will be any good. I have only seen him play once and to be fair to Brohm he did not have much time to learn the system or practice with the team.
  13. Yes, lots of them. Lynch is not a bad player at all. Made the Pro Bowl in his second year, ... remember? He was a thug when we drafted him. It is the fault of the Bills front office for missing on the "character" thing.
  14. It is the same thing. It is the formation that we are talking about. What's difference what the roster position of a player is? You can call a player a safety or a LB, ar anything else. Take Bryon Scott in last years defense. When he lines up in the box we look like a 4-4. He even played LB. Eight in the box can look like 4-4, 3-5, or 5-3, etc. I have seen the Pats* use 2-6, and even 8 players standing.
  15. Nobody expected Kurt Warner to be the next Kurt Warner either. Vermeil was surprised, lucky, and very happy. Need I mention Brady? I don't know if Brohm will be good or not. I would like to see Gailey give him a chance. Thats all.
  16. Not true. The 8 in the box defense, where the strong safety essentially moves up to support the run, can be looked at as a 4-4 or a 5-3, depending on the base defense.
  17. Everybody on the those teams know that Joe did his best, often playing with a lousy cast. In the OJ years, when our offense was good, we had a mediocre defense. Not to mention that the AFC was stacked with the best teams in Pittsburgh, Miami and Oakland. In the Knox years, we had more balance and Joe Ferguson did everything he could to help the team win. Not sure were you are going with this?
  18. Good list. It sure looks like we need to draft LT and NT very early in this draft. A blocking TE and a better FB will help. Especially in the AFC East.
  19. Thanks. Coles is interesting. He could help us. Smart player.
  20. Another view: 1. He was released at the final cut deadline. Most teams have their roster set so it is common that younger players that get released at final cuts end up on their teams PS, not someone elses. There is very little movement of players after final cuts, epsecially young QB's which require a whole off-season of study to understand a system. 2. While on Practice squad you can be signed by any other team ... but only if that team puts you on their 53 man roster. Again, a rare move for a young QB because of the learning curve. 3. My points are intended to imply that just because he was on a practice squad and not pick up by another team, does not mean that the entire league thinks he is not a good prospect.
  21. If you look at were we ended last season and were we stand now it does not appear we are making much ground filling holes. We picked up a veteran RT to fill the void left by Butler. We let Incognito go so now we lack veteran depth in the middle of the OL. We let Owens and Reed go so we lack WR experience (and maybe talent). Hardy and Johnson are still unknowns. We did not (or could not) address LT, making it a draft priority. Changing to a 3-4 created a huge need at NT and that hole is still there going into the draft, another prioirity. We added solid veteran help at ILB and DE with Davis and Edwards. Very good pick ups to have made, both with 3-4 experience. Schobel will most likely be leaving, not sure if he fits into the 3-4 anyway. QB of the future is still unknown. Gailey appears to want to give Trent a thorough look. We will probabaly draft a QB somewhere in the first 4 rounds. I understand the uncapped year and not a great crop of Free Agents this year. All the good NTs were taken off the board early. I sure hope we can swing a deal for a few more players or possibly add more picks in the first three rounds.
  22. There was another post covering this is depth. Someone posted some "expert" opinions (could have been Maycock) that Morgan is strictly a 4-3 DE. I could not say either way but I would not be surprised that Gailey takes one of his boys. I would prefer to fill that LT spot, we have few options there.
  23. My Therioes: You need a good cohesive OL to develop a QB. Not a bunch of first round picks and not a bunch of mid rounders either. Most successful lines have a blend players taken in various draft positions but the key seems to be experience and cohesiveness. If the QB you develop is above average you will have a playoff team. If the QB is special (like Brady, Manning, Brees) you have a SB contender. Combine the special QB with a great OL and you have an offense that will be dominant for many years. You have to have a decent OL just to give your QB a chance to develop. No QB could have suceeded with the OL we had last year.
  24. Joe D has errors in his fact but his concepts are correct.
