Week 8 - Around the NFL (i.e. NOT a Bills thread please)
newcam2012 replied to aristocrat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cinci hitting all strides. I don't see a lot of paths on how the Bills win. This is a bad match up for the Bills. -
NFL Trade Deadline Oct 31 - Rumored List of Players Available

Great post! -
I cannot even comment on this. It sounds like an excuse if I ever heard one. The Chiefs had 2 plays to get into field goal range. The third play was the FG. There is no way that should have happened. Your response/ explanation falls very very very short.

Do you think the offense was better yesterday?
newcam2012 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think this is spot on. I'd add that the offense was way way way better than the last three games. I'm not talking about scoring points here. Of course, that's the bottom line. As you pointed out game script had a lot to do with it. I mean come on just do a basic fan eye ball test. No need to look at stats here. The offense had a swagger, attitude, diversity, creativity, etc...To see Allen unleashed was fantastic. To see others besides Diggs contribute was fantastic. Shakir, Davis, and Kincaid all looked elite like. Even yards after the catch! The oline was very good. Cook was effective with his touches. This is the kind of of offense we've been waiting for. It's the kind of offense that will be needed to beat the tough teams the Bills are about to face. I'm not getting down on them for the last few drives of the game. -
To be honest I haven't seen a replay of the game. I just can't bare myself to watch it. Just too painful. That's probably true too.
-
I screamed but I still didn't think the Bills would lose. My most recent roller coaster ride was the 13 sec game. Not sure I'm fully recovered from that to be honest.
-
I get that. No one is really disputing that. I thought overall it was a good offensive performance and a good team win. Was it perfect? No Could they have put up more points to win easily? Yes Did they win an important game? Yes.
-
They scored right out the gate in the second half. I think you have to put what you are saying in proper perspective. Yes it's true about not scoring in the four drives. The Bills were up 14 points. The Tampa offense didn't feel scary or dynamic. The 14 point lead pretty much felt insurmountable so long as the Bills didn't turn over the ball. I was satisfied with the Bills killing the clock and not taking unnecessary chances. I absolutely wanted them to punt on the two 4th and short opportunities. Ideally, you want to close out these games. At the same time, I was fine with not turning over the ball, punting , and seeing if Tampa could score two TDs. I really never felt like they would be successful. It got very scary but so many fluke things happened to get Tampa in that position. I doubt you see so many weird bounces, bad calls, or horrific penalties like that in a long time. The Bills were at home, up 14 points, vs a pretty poor offense, and Baker Mayfield isn't exactly Mahomes. Overall, I think the Bills offense was fine. They looked very good and different in a good way. Nice play calls, nice pace, diversity, and creative. Josh looked like Josh!!! I usually look at the negative side of things when it comes to the Bills. This time I find myself strongly gravitating to the positive. This was the first time since the Miami game that I feel this offense just might be able to carry the team. That's exciting to this fan.

Kind of true. Not McD fan here as most know. I will say this narrative is not so accurate in regular season games. McD's has won a plenty over the last few years of the regular season. He deserves credit for that. The Bills won a lot of close games last year. I thought that narrative was squashed after last year. The playoffs is a whole different topic. That's where I think McD really gets exposed. However, I don't wanna go there right now. Not the right time after such a nice win.
-
I think the Tampa style of defense contributed to the Bills success. They are a heavy blitz team and a pass funnel defense. The Bills coaching game plan and play calling was excellent. The players execution was atva high level. I wonder if the Bills can maintain this kind of offense going forward. Any thoughts from smarter people than myself?

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly TNF Bucs edition
newcam2012 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree 100%. That's why it's up to the offense to advance this team further. All I'm expecting or hoping for the defense is make a key stop or turnover. -
The defense is what it is with the significant injuries. The key is staying healthy and getting Von back to being elite. I don't see a defensive addition that makes the Bills much better in the playoffs. Do you? I'd rather go out and get DHop or Henry if the price is right. They can definitely be difference makers on the offense. Agree for the most part. However, a DHop would make the Bills passing game even more dynamic. It would change the landscape of the Bills offense for the good. I wouldn't say no to a proven WR with great hands and route running.
-
I'm not really advocating a defensive acquisition unless it's too good to be true. I just don't think that's the way to spend their resources. Even a single pick isn't likely to change the defense much. I don't want to give up the farm for Surtan. McD is just going to have to get creative and guys have to step up and improve. Most defenses even healthy can't stop KC or other dynamic playoff team offenses. The Bills just need a few big D plays, a key turnover, a key stop, etc... I'd rather get another offensive weapon. Go down swinging with Allen and company. I believe this gives the Bills the optimal chance to win. I think at the right price DHop would be a nice pick up. Henry is an interesting thought. Sure would keep teams honest and maybe make the offense unstoppable. After last night's game, does Renfrow and or Judy become an afterthought? My head says yes.

Especially when you take into account how bad the offense had been playing the last three games. I'm the ultimate critic here sometimes to a fault. No need to comment if that. I get people are a bit concerned or upset that the Bills didn't close out the game. But damn they looked pretty damn good last night. They controlled the game, moved the ball around, and had a swagger in offense. They were focused and prepared. Dare I say they looked like the good Bills of the past few seasons. They won the game and for the most part dominated it. That's a huge improvement from what we had been seeing the last three games. I woke up being a happy Bills fan.
-
I just call it like I see it. That includes the good and the bad. I saw a lot of good last night. The offense really looked good despite only scoring 25 points. I'm a little concerned about the defense. The Bills injuries are really hurting their overall effectiveness. Can you imagine how good this D would be with Tre, Jones, and Milano? Wow...
-
The Bills won! I re watched the play. It almost looked like the kicker was trying to get himself free and removed his helmet forward and accidentally hit the Bills player. I could be wrong here. Nevertheless, intent shouldn't be an issue. A penalty should have been assessed. I bet he will get fined by the league.
-
I get that and there is definitely truth in what you are saying. However, the Tampa Bay defense is pretty good too. Truthfully, I felt like the number one priority once up 14 points was to not turnover the ball. I never really felt like the Bills were in danger of losing until after they made their 2 points conversion. If you analyze the end of the game you can reasonable conclude that the Bucs got very very lucky. The Evans TD bounced off of Bedford's helmet and ditto on the 2pount conversation. The Bills penalities allowed them to stay in the game. If not for inexcusable penalties the game was long over. Perhaps these are excuses. Great teams put teams away. Etc ... I get it. The Bills didn't have to be great tonight. They were good enough to get the W after a short week and frankly playing poorly for three games. There was a lot to like from this game.
-
I get it shouldn't have been that close. However, the Bucs got a lot of bounces that went their way. They got a lot penalties that went their way. In the end, the Bills won the game and that's all that really matters. I'd rather focus on how the offense played and looked different than the past three games. I'd rather look at how encouraging the offense was due to using Allen's legs and utilizing Kincaid, Shakir, Cook, and Davis. Diggs didn't have to carry the offense.
-
The only negative I could see were the penalties. I will say that Harty looked really fast and explosive on his returns.
-
I disagree. The Bills played excellent on offense. It was a much different, dynamic, and creative offense. Kincaid, Davis, Shakir, Cook, and the oline were all very good. The rhythm, pace, play calling, and execution was similar to the offenses on the past few years. They looked dangerous. Lastly, the use of Allen's legs was a welcomed addition. Overall, I give the Bills O a solid B+ to an A. Remember, the Bucs are number 1 in the NFL in the red zone. On defense, the Bills were solid but had some issues to clean up. Worried that they will get exposed vs the much better offenses and QBs they will be facing. I thought the run defense was solid. Still need help on stopping the screen pass. I thought the Baker was under pressure a lot but the Bills came up a little short on finishing the sack. Overall, I give the defense a B minus. Penalties hurt the team. Coaching staff gets a B plus. McD had the team motivated and ready to play. You could see that from the jump. Great game plan by Dorsey to come out with a face paced quick passing game. Great design to get several players involved in the offense. I think this is the first time we've seen such diversity. Diggs was even used in various sets and motion to confuse the D and get himself open. Josh was excellent using his legs and getting the ball out to his hot reads. The Bucs blitzing was pretty ineffective with the exception of the fluke INT. Besides, the Dorsey brain fart on the one yard line he was excellent. McD is a very good defensive coach. He mixed up his defenses and disguises. He is way more aggressive than Fraizer. Once concerning is that the key defensive injuries are clearly felt. I'm just afraid it might be a little too much to overcome vs quality offenses. I think one big key will be Von Miller. Right now, he's a work in progress. Hopefully, after the bye or so he starts to be more comfortable and effective. He will elevate everyone's game.
-
I really didn't think the Bills were very conservative at the end of the game. Perhaps a tad bit conservative but nothing extreme. I thought they played pretty smart and made solid decisions. The Bucs got some big breaks and bounces. The Bills had some crucial penalties. While watching the game, I said to myself Buffalo just don't beat yourselves. Don't give them a turnover. I really felt that was the only way the Bucs had a realistic chance to beat Buffalo. The offense didn't turn over the ball.
-
This is a big win. Wasn't pretty at the end. Bills still have to do some cleaning up but the win is important. The offense looked really different tonight. I mean that in a good way. Many players got involved, yards after the catch, Josh running, creative offense with motion, etc... The defense played well. Still having problems with the screen passes. Looked better stopping the run. Oliver makes a difference. Wish the pass rush could have gotten to Baker more Special teams looked good except for the penalties. Harty caught my eye with some nice returns. Great punts to pin the Bucs. That hail mary pass was heart stopping scary.
-
Kinda true kinda not. They are up 14 points. That's a pretty big lead.
-
Total team football by the Bills.
-
Agree. His vision and decision making are really good. He looks razor focused. Having him run makes him turn into Superman.
