  1. All of whom said the bills had no chance at being competitive this year I’m sure haha I think it’s a tad over reactionary but we’ll see. Idk who in the AFC is really capable of a game like that. I don’t think even Baltimore could do it. KC is so weak at tackle that it gives our dline a shot. Pit maybe? They don’t look particularly astute at pounding the run either though Hypothetical if we make the Super Bowl and lose, what do people do with mcd?
  2. I am curious at how big a scheme shift most people here are looking for though so this should be an interesting discussion. It’s definitely not impossible to limit the roster turnover. Definitely didn’t go well for the dolphins as the Texans though lol
  3. Hahaha I’m a jacka** touché. Still stand by the dolphins point though. I have no idea what I was thinking there with Houston. Must’ve gotten mixed up cuz he had a long playing career there
  4. I’m incorrect that Ryans got promoted from within the Texans organization therefore he was well versed on their defensive system and that is a much different situation than an outside hire? Lol. Gonna have to disagree with you there and I would go out on a limb and say you’re objectively wrong. dolphins there’s certainly some gray area. But even they are proof of the risk of turning over coaches/coordinators because Flores had those guys playing much tougher on the defensive side than anyone since has despite apparently keeping things mostly the same outside of the coordinator. So even if your roster turnover comment is justified it’s still proof things can go sideways in a hurry with just a coordinator change.
  5. I mean don’t people want a full defensive scheme shift? I was assuming that’s the case lol. You can find someone to take over at DC and keep things relatively the same but is that what everyone wants? If not I really don’t get getting rid of mcd at all isn’t the whole issue people are raising that his scheme isn’t well suited for the playoffs? Canning him for an unproven first time head coach and rolling with the same defensive players/scheme seems like an unnecessary massive risk The dolphins had a ton of future assets when they pulled the rug out from Flores so it was an easier transition. Wasn’t Ryans on the Texans staff and then promoted? These are not good comparisons to our situation
  6. There will inevitably be a modest amount of roster turnover at minimum if you bring in a new coach. It doesn’t really work like what you’re describing. Guys have to learn to play in a new system that they aren’t super well suited for and it will take a few years to bring in enough players that fit. Even if you aren’t thrilled with mcd I think the superbowl chances probably drop in the short term and should increase further down the road assuming you get the hire right. people seem to think of the nfl playoffs like it’s the mlb/nba playoffs and it just isn’t. Even if you have far and away the best roster, best coach, and the bye you’ve still gotta basically win 3 60/40 type games in a row. There’s a huge amount of luck involved. A new head coach could come in and still not put you over the top in Josh’s prime even if they get everything right. I mean look at the head coaches that have taken mahomes down in the playoffs. One was bill b who had the classic chiefs never get a chance in ot game against them which easily could’ve been how our game went with a little luck, one was Todd Bowles who was an average at best coach with a stacked team, and one was Zac Taylor who bengals fans hate and it was also a game that could’ve easily gone the other way. two of those guys are mcd level or worse
  7. I really do think it’s injury related against kc in the playoffs…I’m really hoping we get that rematch. It’s the other teams I’m more worried about. I think we went all in on personnel to slow the chiefs down and pounding the run made a bit of a resurgence while that happened. 66% of the games we had either 0 linebackers or our starting corners were Dane Jackson/levi Wallace against kc in the playoffs
  8. Oh it would yea but Ben Johnson isn’t pushing 80 while that happens 🤣. That’s the part that I think you’re not getting lol And he can kind of look for a dc that lines up more with the players he has (should he want to do that). I think belichick would definitely gut it all bills are pretty well balanced on the offensive side I don’t think you have to burn that all down even with Ben. Ben could def work with who we have but I doubt belichick would bring in an OC that could
  9. Yes lol or they think our offense would be fine under anyone which is kind of funny given all the Brady complaints this message board is the ultimate evidence of ‘the grass is always greener on the other side/prisoner of the moment’ haha some year between 0-100 years from now the bills will win the superbowl with a large portion of the fans begging the head coach is fired all year 🤣
  10. If you move on it has to be for someone that’s not a couple years from retirement or someone on the older side that has shown some capability in passing his knowledge on to coordinators. The odds Brady doesn’t get a hc job at this point are very slim so the odds he hangs around under a new head coach are miniscule. You’re likely looking for GM, head coach, and both coordinator spots if/when mcd is fired and it’s gonna be a full rebuild on the defensive side at minimum im still hesitant on Ben Johnson…I don’t think even his boss is gonna have any more playoff success than mcd is having but we’ll see haha. Johnson makes infinitely more sense to take a shot on than belichick though
  11. How long would it take him to build this defense? If you’re making a major scheme shift you are gonna lose a lot of effectiveness from our current players and there will be a ton of roster turnover needed probably would take a few years of worse results than mcd is getting before it being even possible for belichick to take a step forward. He’ll be mid 70s and Josh will be in his 30s. If he was considerably younger and could run the franchise for a decade or two then maybe it’s worth the risk but that is absolutely not the case. His coaching tree has been mostly abysmal too so I don’t really trust one of his coordinators taking over post retirement. This move just makes absolutely no sense. Brady is gonna get a head coaching job and I don’t trust belichick to bring in an OC this is something woody Johnson would and probably will do and it will go badly lol people refuse to believe the nfl playoffs takes a healthy dose of luck too so even if everything goes absolutely perfectly and he is his old self the odds belichick wins a superbowl before retirement are very very low
  12. I don’t see it…if that’s his motivation for coming back it just doesn’t make sense he’d go to Buffalo. That wouldn’t change the narrative at all that he can only win with a superstar qb if he was mid 50s I wouldn’t be as appalled people are calling for it…even if his mental motivation is there and he does go to Buffalo who even knows if his body holds up
  13. Yea idk how people are missing this…a new head coach/gm will turn the roster over to their liking and bring in all their own guys. It’s a step backward to maybe take a step forward in 2-3 years. belichick makes no sense to me because by the time he gets the roster he wants he will almost certainly be on the verge of retirement. I doubt his relentless work ethic would be the same at his advanced age either
  14. They probably won’t but Stafford got forced into fitting throws into some pretty tight windows with 0 pass rush to stay in that shootout and he hit them all. I don’t think Goff is gonna be able to do that as successfully and will probably turn it over. Jameson Williams and St Brown are great but I’d bet against them playing as well as Kupp/Nacua did yesterday. Should be another close game
  15. regular season I feel like no matter how good the coach is there’s gonna be a few of those shootout games. The sample size is just too big for that to not happen. Id like to see a playoff run where we’re not missing 2-3 of our best defenders before rolling the dice on someone new it’s lookin like this will probably be that year
  16. Lost me at nacua isn’t that good lol the guy has completely overshadowed Kupp who’s very good
  17. I’d give him this playoffs at least…embarrassing wildcard loss maybe move on this season, anything further than that give him one more chance at a deep playoff run. Injuries have been an issue in the playoffs on the defensive side but this season seems to be shaping up to not have that excuse defensive coaches definitely get got sometimes, we humiliated belichick in the playoffs who’s defense was quite good that year. Offensive coaches get got sometimes, mcvay got absolutely pantsed in that first Super Bowl appearance.
  18. That last paragraph is exactly how we beat the chiefs and also why I don’t think the chiefs could afford to go super run heavy against us in the playoff rematch
  19. Haha I mean I was half kidding with that…but the run blitzing worked in this one. Saying we shouldn’t have done it because there’s risk involved is bizarre to me. risk is important sure and you want to put the opposing offense in riskier situations rather than letting them just walk down the field. At worst you’re giving up a fast td rather than a slow time consuming td the way not run blitzing was going. You shouldn’t just not run blitz because theoretically good defenses don’t have to 😂 I don’t get that to me mcd finally made an adjustment to be more aggressive knowing a qb on fire like that could easily make the plays needed to put together a long td drive if you play soft. maybe it’s getting lost a bit cuz of the dumb sneak decision but I think that’s a positive still
  20. Even with this questionably high probability you’ve chosen you completely change how Detroit plays defense and offense down the stretch if the game is suddenly one score instead of two because you somehow hit a bunch of two point conversions in a row it’s not as simple as saying ‘we lost by 2 imagine if we went for two three times’ edit: have Detroit on the brain haha meant LA
  21. Yes I guess we will lol run blitzes were blowing up enough runs to force 3rd and medium/longs in the second half and forced the rams into some real tough throw/catches they just happened to hit them all. I don’t understand how that objectively wouldn’t have been the better choice all game. despite not getting enough push up front on passing plays throughout things definitely seemed to tighten up where Stafford had a much lower margin of error. I think the philosophy of ‘run a base nickel with dbs giving cushion that’s ok against run and good against pass in ideal circumstances but doesn’t do much of anything in bad circumstances’ maybe gets swayed from in the future. Should be interesting to see how we handle the lions I don’t really understand this ‘too proud to run blitz because front 7s should in theory stop the run without that’ attitude lol. If teams are gonna go run heavy there’s a good shot you blow up a lot of runs in the backfield/at the LOS even with a big mismatch in the trenches
  22. Probably 50/50 each time is a safe bet. Might be a little higher on the first few attempts because you have a few go to plays for that situation and then lower for the final two. That would put it at 6% ish to convert all 4.
  23. I mean most teams usually sell out to stop the run or pass. I’d argue the opposite and say we should’ve started the game doing this ‘selling out’ you speak of 🤣. Second half defense looked much better to me and they were consistently in position but staffords ball placement was so good the rams still made plays. I would’ve forced him to do that for 60 minutes rather than 30 and we probably win. I think that’s what we’re gonna see against the lions
  24. Yea that was a tough one…I think the third down call is different and we go for it on 4th and short worst case if our coaches didn’t think they could turn things around on the defensive side in the second half. Idk if that makes me feel better or worse though 😂
  25. A team that’s scared enough of the opposing offense to roll the dice on that 4th and 5 is very likely opening the full playbook on every play of that final game sealing drive to win it with their offense. I’m not gonna fault people for being worried that that sneak decision could mean something boneheaded could happen in an actual game on the line situation obviously, but I don’t think in this particular game that it was super consequential I don’t even hate the sneak call given how high percentage it has been over Josh’s career but if it got stopped you have to know to line up right away and sneak it again without a timeout.. I think they probably got nervous a second sneak would get stuffed too and second guessed it in the moment.
