WR trade candidates, who do you want?

When you say "None" that is what you think is going to happen, correct? Not what you would like to happen, right? -

I don't think you understand what happens after we trade for one of these WRs. The Bills immediately restructure the deal - they give a guarantee, a signing bonus, and the Bills figure out how much of the salary they want to have count on this years cap (see DHop 2023 $1.8M salary). So yes having money in the future matters a great deal. When I referenced Von and Josh, I was refering to the 2025 number and how that can be increased from the $23M. And I believe Josh could restructure again this year if needed- just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it can't. Might be all part of the set-up, what a surprise, this opportunity just came up, had to get Josh involved, etc. Hopkins is certainly in play, the new regime added two WRs and DHop is on his last year. Metcalf is a distinct possibility because Seattle would want draft capital to get a QB next year, and Lockett doesn't get them any. Aiyuk is a possibility. Beane is evaluating the options. There could of course be surprise ones like C Kupp or C Godwin because any GM that wanted to move a veteran WR for draft capital would be calling Beane - because although you can't tell it on this message board it is glaringly obvious that the Bills would want a top tier WR. -

How about the Bills stop signing mediocre JAG WRs and get one good one? Quantity does not make up for quality. I still think their going to do it. Beane is not an idiot. What GM in their right mind would have their best WR be C Samuel, the WR2/3 from Wash, slated in for WR1 duties with Josh Allen in his prime? -

D Adams has a $17M salary, that's not insane. That was an old article linked- and how they will be keeping their own - J Jacobs. How'd that work out. Let's not take these sound bites as gospel. Just because you keep saying we don't have the money, doesn't make it true. We are getting $10M for Tre on June 1st. Have you ignored the other thread on how the Bills are scheduled to have over $23M in cap in 2025? That is before some moves that could be made - like Von or restructure Josh. Potential finances seem there to me. I don't know why you only think Higgins or Aiyuk/Samuel are the only ones. Why eliminate DK Metcalf and D Hopkins? And that article certainly didn't eliminate D Adams in my mind. -

It is disappointing to me to see them add another JAG. It does seem to decrease the odds of adding a substantial WR. My hope is the addition is because the trade WR is of the D Adams or DHop variety, and the need for speed in the WR room makes sense. I am still struggling with the idea that the on-paper best WR for the Bills heading into the 2024 season is the WR2/3 from Wash, C Samuel. -

D Hopkins seems like a likely trade partner because Tenn just added FAs C Ridley and Boyd. They already had DHop and T Burks. I think they have new management that just added guys they want. Also, DHop is on the last year of his deal, if they don't move him they will get nothing for him later. They could be looking to move T Burks but the market for him just may not be there. -

Aiyuk would be an excellent candidate. I don't think our cap situation is as bad as many make it out to be. But with Aiyuk I do worry about how much he thinks he is worth. I think he would be expensive. If Beane could bring Aiyuk in, it would change the outlook of our WR room dramatically. -

I get it, you don't think DJ Moore is a possibility. I did put him in the dark horse category. But if McD/Beane liked him from their Car days and offer up a 1st you never know. And when Chic traded for Moore they didn't know they would draft Rome. I don't think you understand how they can play with the salary once they get the player. For instance suppose they trade for Metcalf. He has a $13M salary. Right after they get him (really part of the negotiation of the trade) they extend him, give him a signing bonus with guarantees and reduce his 2024 salary to something small that the FO wants it to be, lets say $5M. Then the net affect is they got the $10M Tre money + $3+ earlier, got Metcalf renegotiated and then come out with $8M for the safety (Hyde) and rest of season. As for DHop, you may think Tenn wants to move Burks, but no one wants him. Tenn added Ridley and Boyd. Dhop is on his last year of his contract, moving him for some draft capital would have to be mighty tempting. DHop shows an $8M salary which is great value. May have to throw a 2nd to get that. D Adams is surprisingly not getting much love here. D Adams carries a $44M salary for the Raiders next year so he should be available. He has a $16M salary that they would need to briefly accounted for, then restructure with the extensions, signing bonus, guarantee manipulations. The point is to get someone in here that has the expected value of at least what we lost in Diggs. DK Metcalf/D Adams/D Hopkins meet that requirement, the low level, inconsequential JAGs you keep bringing up don't. -

Beane IMO is an excellent GM, one of the best. However a blunder of this magnitude with our starting WRs would force me to reevaluate. -

Therein lies the problem. A contending team is going to go into the season with their on-paper best WR as C Samuel? Ouch. I hope for Beane's sake they don't give out worst GM of the year award. And it's not only a 2024 problem. The hole will still be there for 2025. It seems to me, people on this board micromanage the words from Beane. If we take a step back and say Beane is a good GM. A good GM would never go into a season with C Samuel as their top WR. Ergo, the Bills will get a better WR. The question then becomes who, and I have laid out my preferred options. -

Who do you think will be the Bills best WR to start the season? C Samuel maybe? Didn't Beane say don't expect K Coleman to start at the beginning of the season? I just can't understand people who think K Coleman as a rookie is going to be as good as Diggs was. The role I envision is K Coleman splitting with C Samuel as the second best WR with Shakir continuing to grow his role as a good WR3/slot. -

First off, quit making things up about what I said. I didn't say that nonsense that you are attributing to me. I never wanted Thomas or the price needed for the big 3. Although I have always wanted a top tier veteran WR. Your refuting the signs reminds me of your going piece by piece and picking apart the Diggs comments as no big deal. I'm sure you said something along the lines of there is "literally 0% chance" Diggs is traded. Sometimes it seems you have problems seeing the forest from the trees. My opinion on Coleman is how I would like to see him in the hierarchy of the WR room. I don't want him as the top WR, I do not want to pencil him in as the replacement for Diggs. A trade may or may not happen. I want it to happen. I've listed WRs I would like. No need for some holier than thou attitude. -

Rome Odunze was the ninth player selected and is Chicago's third WR. Rookies generally do not slot in as the top WR for a team, and certainly not ones taken in the second round. I do like Coleman to win the second WR job as the replacement for G Davis though. -

How can you claim there are no signs? Isn't hoarding 2025 draft picks a sign? Isn't not getting a top end FA WR a sign? Isn't only drafting 1 WR a sign? Wasn't not taking the full amount of Josh's restructure a sign? What, do you need a written invitation? Is the only sign, in your mind, Beane saying "We are actively trying to trade for a WR". I haven't listened that intently to Beane. Just as well really, because if listening to Beane makes me say ridiculous things like "literally 0% chance anyone on that list is traded to the Bills" I think a may be the better for it. That is some type of hypnotic mind meld Beane has over a lot of people here. But congrats to you for taking it to the "literally 0% chance" level. Coleman is not a top WR. He wasn't meant to be, not this year anyway. He is meant to replace G Davis and I think he can do a great job at that. -

True Diggs didn't meet expectations but it doesn't mean you go in without them. For most people our current WR expectations are pretty low. I'm hoping we can trade for someone we can have realistically high expected numbers. It seems the majority of people do not expect we bring in a top WR, I am not one of those, and my standards are higher than C Sutton. -

IMO waiting until the trade deadline is a bad idea. People's claim that we have to wait doesn't hold up. It is more of repeating an often said statement that is not based in fact. Saying that it is unlikely that Mack Hollins is a #2 outside WR is a very understated way to put it IMO. It puts Beane in a whole new uncharted level of boneheadness. I think Beane is an intelligent, excellent GM - so I can't imagine this is the plan. True, I like the idea of DK over D Adams, but it is close enough IMO to have to consider what is given up. If you are saying give up a 1 +2 for DK, vs giving up a 2nd for D Adams, I think I'd go for Adams. -

The extra second and extra fourth look good to me. Don't know if that would do it but if it doesn't I would have to remind them that D Adams is available. What do you think? -

Einstein's Dog replied to Einstein's Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall
I said pushing it because Seattle will already be taking a dead cap hit. Trading out Metcalf w a $13M salary is desirable for the Bills. The Bills won't need any more available space once they have the $10M after June 1st plus the $3+ they already have. Then after (or almost simultaneously) the restructure occurs - an extension that includes guarantees and a signing bonus. They could bring Metcalf's salary down to something like $5M and have all the rest into the future - like Tenn did with DHops. -

Einstein's Dog replied to Einstein's Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wow, now you're really pushing it - $13M for DK Metcalf is already a bargain. That's one of the reasons he would cost significant draft capital. And yes, pretty much during the trade they will renegotiate the contract. And Metcalf's cap hit will be pretty much anything they want it to be - but of course the lower they go the more is pushed into future years. -

You don't think a value WR acquisition would make a difference? I have to strongly disagree, it's what the team is missing. A quality WR would allow the other players to do better. -

Einstein's Dog replied to Einstein's Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall
There was some meat left on the bone with the first Josh restructure - probably just for this reason. And after they acquire the WR they can redo the contract for a much smaller 2024 cap hit. See DHop's situation done above. -

Einstein's Dog replied to Einstein's Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they could get most on my first list because they can have the Tre $10M and a Josh restructure to bring them on board. Then they can do the restructure. For instance, look at DHop on spotrac - his reported salary for 2023 for Tenn was $4M, yet he was a $13M man. They can get a D Adams or D Metcalf and then extend them and play all kinds of cap games with void years. -

GM's lie. Did he say that before or after they drafted Rome? Anyway, even if you eliminate Moore, the point remains, there are some possibilities out there. -

The only way I can think they would do this is if it came from T Pegula. That is my fear, that without Kim, T Pegula may be tightening the purse strings and want to save for a boost next year with the stadium filling as a concern. But this would have to be against Beane's wishes. Beane will look terrible if this is the talent he is sending out there this year. It would be his worst year as a GM by a lot.
