WR trade candidates, who do you want?
Einstein's Dog replied to Einstein's Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall
Who do you think will be the Bills best WR to start the season? C Samuel maybe? Didn't Beane say don't expect K Coleman to start at the beginning of the season? I just can't understand people who think K Coleman as a rookie is going to be as good as Diggs was. The role I envision is K Coleman splitting with C Samuel as the second best WR with Shakir continuing to grow his role as a good WR3/slot. -

First off, quit making things up about what I said. I didn't say that nonsense that you are attributing to me. I never wanted Thomas or the price needed for the big 3. Although I have always wanted a top tier veteran WR. Your refuting the signs reminds me of your going piece by piece and picking apart the Diggs comments as no big deal. I'm sure you said something along the lines of there is "literally 0% chance" Diggs is traded. Sometimes it seems you have problems seeing the forest from the trees. My opinion on Coleman is how I would like to see him in the hierarchy of the WR room. I don't want him as the top WR, I do not want to pencil him in as the replacement for Diggs. A trade may or may not happen. I want it to happen. I've listed WRs I would like. No need for some holier than thou attitude. -

Rome Odunze was the ninth player selected and is Chicago's third WR. Rookies generally do not slot in as the top WR for a team, and certainly not ones taken in the second round. I do like Coleman to win the second WR job as the replacement for G Davis though. -

How can you claim there are no signs? Isn't hoarding 2025 draft picks a sign? Isn't not getting a top end FA WR a sign? Isn't only drafting 1 WR a sign? Wasn't not taking the full amount of Josh's restructure a sign? What, do you need a written invitation? Is the only sign, in your mind, Beane saying "We are actively trying to trade for a WR". I haven't listened that intently to Beane. Just as well really, because if listening to Beane makes me say ridiculous things like "literally 0% chance anyone on that list is traded to the Bills" I think a may be the better for it. That is some type of hypnotic mind meld Beane has over a lot of people here. But congrats to you for taking it to the "literally 0% chance" level. Coleman is not a top WR. He wasn't meant to be, not this year anyway. He is meant to replace G Davis and I think he can do a great job at that. -

True Diggs didn't meet expectations but it doesn't mean you go in without them. For most people our current WR expectations are pretty low. I'm hoping we can trade for someone we can have realistically high expected numbers. It seems the majority of people do not expect we bring in a top WR, I am not one of those, and my standards are higher than C Sutton. -

IMO waiting until the trade deadline is a bad idea. People's claim that we have to wait doesn't hold up. It is more of repeating an often said statement that is not based in fact. Saying that it is unlikely that Mack Hollins is a #2 outside WR is a very understated way to put it IMO. It puts Beane in a whole new uncharted level of boneheadness. I think Beane is an intelligent, excellent GM - so I can't imagine this is the plan. True, I like the idea of DK over D Adams, but it is close enough IMO to have to consider what is given up. If you are saying give up a 1 +2 for DK, vs giving up a 2nd for D Adams, I think I'd go for Adams. -

The extra second and extra fourth look good to me. Don't know if that would do it but if it doesn't I would have to remind them that D Adams is available. What do you think? -

I said pushing it because Seattle will already be taking a dead cap hit. Trading out Metcalf w a $13M salary is desirable for the Bills. The Bills won't need any more available space once they have the $10M after June 1st plus the $3+ they already have. Then after (or almost simultaneously) the restructure occurs - an extension that includes guarantees and a signing bonus. They could bring Metcalf's salary down to something like $5M and have all the rest into the future - like Tenn did with DHops. -

Wow, now you're really pushing it - $13M for DK Metcalf is already a bargain. That's one of the reasons he would cost significant draft capital. And yes, pretty much during the trade they will renegotiate the contract. And Metcalf's cap hit will be pretty much anything they want it to be - but of course the lower they go the more is pushed into future years. -

You don't think a value WR acquisition would make a difference? I have to strongly disagree, it's what the team is missing. A quality WR would allow the other players to do better. -

There was some meat left on the bone with the first Josh restructure - probably just for this reason. And after they acquire the WR they can redo the contract for a much smaller 2024 cap hit. See DHop's situation done above. -

I think they could get most on my first list because they can have the Tre $10M and a Josh restructure to bring them on board. Then they can do the restructure. For instance, look at DHop on spotrac - his reported salary for 2023 for Tenn was $4M, yet he was a $13M man. They can get a D Adams or D Metcalf and then extend them and play all kinds of cap games with void years. -

GM's lie. Did he say that before or after they drafted Rome? Anyway, even if you eliminate Moore, the point remains, there are some possibilities out there. -

The only way I can think they would do this is if it came from T Pegula. That is my fear, that without Kim, T Pegula may be tightening the purse strings and want to save for a boost next year with the stadium filling as a concern. But this would have to be against Beane's wishes. Beane will look terrible if this is the talent he is sending out there this year. It would be his worst year as a GM by a lot. -

1. Because they are rebuilding and need a QB so they want draft capital (see Raiders D Adams and Seattle DK Metcalf). 2. Because player is disgruntled and wants out (see Diggs, and Aiyuk). 3. Because of glut of WRs and the player is no longer their #1 (see Tenn and D Hopkins) 4. Because team has new regime and want their own players (Chi DJ Moore) There are logical reasons why good players can be had in a trade. -

Be very careful with what Beane says because lets face it, it would be detrimental to say he is going to trade for a WR. When he says "no trade forthcoming" he can wiggle out of that. And saying he "likes our room, blah, blah, blah" is all GM speak. They drafted the replacement of G Davis. They added camp bodies. They have no WR on the roster with over 1,000 yard season. The entire outside football hemisphere can look at the Bills WR room and see it as the pathetic room that it is. It needs a top WR bad. Beane is not an idiot, odds are the WR is coming. -

I'd be disappointed with C Sutton as the addition. He doesn't meet the 2024 Diggs level expectation for me. -

Of course they will. The Bills do not have a WR1 on the roster for 2024, or for that matter for 2025. The Bills have draft capital - extra 2nd and 4th, money coming in - Tre $10M, and kept the spot open - didn't draft 2 and didn't hit FA hard. All signs point to picking up a good WR. -

DHop should be the least expensive of the options. He was a FA a year ago. Giving Tenn a 3rd or 4th should cover it. But the problem with several of the veteran options is the top WR spot would need to be addressed again quickly. They would be more rentals at this point for maybe two years. Whereas with a Metcalf or Aiyuk you would not expect to have this hole again for at least 3 years out. And if you get a Metcalf/Aiyuk type you would not be pining for the flake Diontae Johnson or underperforming J Jeudy. -

Common misconception. The Bills get $10M Tre money June 1st, also potential Josh restructure money. If you look at the salary aspects, none of those seem bad, it is the future money where the expense will be, and the Bills have room in the future. -

To me the WHO is someone who is expected to be at least as good as Diggs in 2024. That is the bar that Beane needs to hit to try for year over year improvement. And yes, a trade for a top tier WR pulls the whole actions together - the letting Diggs go, only drafting one WR in a loaded draft, no major FA pickups. It all comes together with this one move. -

McLaurin could be put in the Darkhorse category, salary $15M, age 29. While meeting the level of 2024 Diggs quality it is hard to see Washington giving away their top WR, leaving them with just Dotson and the new 4th rounder Luke. Would be a tough spot for their rookie QB. -
A good number of our fans (including myself) are expecting a post June 1st trade for a WR. This WR should be of at least the quality of the expected 2024 Diggs. Listed below are who I feel are the top contenders: 1. DK Metcalf - rumored to be on the market, salary $13M, age 27. Big, fast, would be great addition. 2. B Aiyuk - previously rumored to be on the market and would make sense because SF has a lot of high priced WRs and drafted one in Round 1. Salary $14M, age 26. Downside is looking for big payday. 3. D Hopkins - Tenn has glut of WRs. Salary around $13M (maybe less based on how the $8M salary + $4M roster bonus is distributed). age 32. 4. D Adams - Raiders are going to stink and have no QB, Adams contract is such that this looks like his last year w $44M next year. Salary $17M, age 32. Dark Horse candidates 5. DJ Moore - former Carolina pick, salary $16M, age 27 6. C Kupp - salary $15M, age 31 7. C Godwin - salary $20M, age 28 The combination of draft capital and salary needed to be given for each listed WR makes is hard to figure out which way to go. Lets hope Beane makes one happen.

Who is Burden? I'm with you, get the trade for the top WR. I think the main choices are Aiyuk, DK Metcalf. D Adams, DHop.
-
You know what makes me feel better about the draft? Imaging it was done with the intent to trade for an impact WR after 6/1. Then just drafting 1 WR makes sense, even in a deep WR draft. Because If you got two you're just crowding up the Shakir/Samuel/Coleman mix. As for the RB in the 4th, I have no problems with that. Get one that you like there because you may have use for him this season. And if he pans out you can just let J Cook play out his contract and try to get a comp pick.
