In general, do the salaries reflect that? If I make 100k/yr in Atlanta, how much would I make in the Bay Area? I know Manhattan salaries are quite a bit higher than Atlanta. -Jeff

Yeah, if she does that, *I'LL* pour a beer on her head! She's just about five and loves the Bills/Sabres, mostly because I do. She watches entire games with me.. I think she'd love going to see one.

...and is it a real "family" game game, to move the quotes over a bit... I've a fear that I'd take my little girl and she'd get covered in beer.
-
Yeah, that's one thing I noticed, especially driving through San Fracisco... the sheer number of people jogging/riding across the Golden Gate. There was a steady flow... that's not something I *ever* see here in Atlanta..
-
Yeah, it's a very nice area though. Last time I was there I took a ride up 101 north across the bridge and into the mountains and whatnot. I've stayed in Sunnyvale each time I made the flight out there. I remember reading that there's large plots of land south of San Fran/San Jose that has been designated as 'wild' or something, so there's no building allowed on it. Last time I was there it actually snowed in San Francisco! Edit: I'd move out there in a heartbeat if I landed a good job with a killer reloc. package! -Jeff

I looked at moving either there or NYC a few months back... it's not just a difference, it's like a 5x difference. Housing within 20 minutes of Manhattan is freakin' cheaper. It's the "natural land" Cali tree-hugger laws there, no?

1. Judging by the woman in the picture, I know why we don't see much Bills porn. It turns people to stone. 2. Not going to post NSFW? And that last picture *is* safe for work?

When Buffalo people relocate, where are the headed
mcjeff215 replied to Bills/Sabresfan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I've been thinking about that myself lately. The only thing I can think of is that the local install-base isn't there so it's harder to get started. Shops in Atlanta/RTP/San Jose have local companies to sell to in order to get going. It's possible to do dog-and-pony shows to local companies before the money is there for travel expenses and whatnot. That doesn't address Internet startups and whatnot, though. Taxes are high, sure, but the labor force in WNY is cheap. I've been called about positions in the Amherst area lately, but the salary is less than half of what I make now (no exaggeration). As a lot of the labor in the area is unskilled, or unfortunate tradesmen that have been lost jobs, I would think it would be a hot-bed for outsource centers and whatnot. You know, do what the Indian economy has done but keep it local. Throw in the fact that call-center capable real estate is cheap up there and it seems you'd have a win/win. Of course, the NYS labor laws (?) and the taxes might be the deal breaker. I also believe that everyone is very down on the area. It's economically depressed, but it also has a lot of good points. None of my family/friends up there see it that way. Taxes, taxes, taxes. You're dead on about the local businesses. No one tries to go global, or even national. Hell, regional for that matter. It's always John's Pizza or Steve's Snow Removal. There's a shop on the corner of 20 and Abbott that's been about 65 different things - not the old Retigs, the carpet place (at one time). That place on Clark/McKinnely has been about 4 different restaurants (Europa, at least when I moved away). What's the cost of doing business in the area? Is it prohibitive? It seems that selling to global clients but paying Buffalo-area salaries and expenses would be a good thing... -Jeff -
Yeah, the people around Birmingham are very nice. I've a brother-in-law that lives there. The first thing I noticed was how clean the air was. It's a far-cry from the folks in Atlanta, where there still seems to be a bit of tension (probably due to the city size).

Steelers QB Ben R. In Motorcycle Crash

I agree. You're talking about "Fast and the Furious Syndrom", no? Same little pukes that race down the road @ 100 Mph in a Civic. -Jeff -
Imagine if Buffalo would have drafted Big Ben.

Nah, it's June. It's still snowing back home... he wouldn't even have the bike out yet. -
I agree. If you're just watching the Bills play - save the $200 bucks and hit the bars. Your other option would be to fork over the $10/mo or whatever and listen on nfl.com.... If you're into watching the rest of the games going on, then it's a great thing to have.

Just got back from it - I recommend it if you can. Very interesting and very well done. Respectful, scientific - it has a very museum atmosphere and is very educational. Lots of kids ranging from newborn on up. Well worth it!

NY Times Archive... Bills 1981 - Present
mcjeff215 replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I lived a mile from the stadium growing up in Buff. I remember that game very clearly, there were people walking down the street with big chunks of goal-post. It was funny. I used to also get dead-heads sleeping in my front year after the yearly Greatful Dead show, too. -Jeff -

Anyone have pix of the Kelly/OCC Bike?
mcjeff215 replied to Tom's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've got an interesting story about those OCC guys... my company used to run their website. It kept crashing because of a poorly designed shopping cart that their web-guy had setup. I've actually been yelled at by those guys on the phone. I was the poor guy responsible for the 10 or so systems running it. So not only did I get yelled at, I had been up all night fixing components... -
If OTA's are voluntary, why blame Willis?
mcjeff215 replied to hamtenp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree as well. If it was the same old crap under MM, it's no problem... but come on.. we've swapped coaching regimes. Look at the way our swordsmen came together as a team this year. This type of stuff doesn't breed that way of thinking. -
One bonds to "testosterone receptor sites" and causes an increased protein production while the other bonds to nerve endings and stops neurotransmitter release. If a muscle is paralyzed, it sure as hell can't wrinkle! -Jeff

mcjeff215 replied to hamtenp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You don't think the fact that he hasn't shown up at one of these things shows a bit of a lack of dedication? New coach, new staff, new GM, new players, new year.. one would think he would be more interested in his team; at least I would. Not to knock him or anything, but it does irk be a little. Start teaching the new system as soon as possible. The XX% of players that show up will know it that much better. -
Game 7: Buffalo at Carolina 7:30 EST
mcjeff215 replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yeah. Well, look at it this way... we have the Bills in a few months, they ought to have a hell of a season. This really sucks. Thanks go to the team for a great season, had more fun watching hockey this year than I have in years. Still. This sucks. -Jeff
