  1. If people will pay, let 'em charge. There are alternatives. The "budget" airlines, the cars, government-subsidized Amtrack. Major airlines are pissing money so they're obviously not charging enough to cover what they do offer (the reasons for this can be debated to no end, unions, fuel, poor practices, and so on...). It'll cost you a hell of a lot to drive, just not in one place.... take 2000 miles, 4 tanks @ $35 a tank... two nights @ $150 a night, two meals a day @ $10 a pop (per person).... that's $460 for a single person. Driving is much more economical if you're traveling as a family, but for a single person, flying is almost always cheaper from what I've seen. Hey, at least they let you keep the headphones now. Personally, I'd *rather* drive. Not because of the price, but because I *loathe* flying. I've flown probably 75 times and I still panic at every take-off and landing. Never fails. Each time.. "We should have stopped by now. We shouldn't be moving. The plane should have come to a stop!" Or, at take off, "why aren't we in the air yet? This is taking too long. We should be in the air. He needs to stop or he's not going to have enough room and we'll run off the runway!" Throw in the fact that travel (air, car, train, any form) always brings out the worst in people and I'd rather spend 2000 miles behind the wheel of my XTerra listening to the same CD spin over and over and over. -Jeff
  2. Hell if I know. It's a very large shop that grew fast, I'd argue they probably just haven't perfected the process. I don't mind, I like San Francisco. I'll keep going out there as many times as their willing to cover...
  3. Ha, I was in San Jose again last weekend, went great, now they've gone away again. They keep flying me out there on their tab, so I'll keep going. One of the guys made a comment on how they think I'm a record now. I've interviewed with... 19... different people.
  4. I don't know.. I head in to work at 5:30 AM and leave at three. If it's any later than three, traffic backs up. I neglected to mention that I left "late" yesterday, 6:20, and didn't get into the office until just about eight. I think I spent more time sitting in traffic yesterday than I did working. -Jeff

  6. So, I've liked this Chevelle band for a good few years now. Had dinner with the guys before they went major label (but had just finished recording). I've seen 'em three times around here in clubs. They're opening for Nickleback this year.. I wanted to see 'em again, so I bought Tickets. Not a NB fan really, but that's ok. I left work at FOUR and got home to pick my wife up at SIX. I left for the arena at SIX and GOT THERE at ten-after NINE. When I pulled in, the attendant told me "no spaces left, you should have come earlier!" After parellel parking on the road, I hiked up just in time to see the last 25 seconds of their encore. Total travel time from Atlanta - Canton -> Duluth? Five hours. Oh 190/290/90, how I miss thee. -Jeff
  7. Computer stuff. Remember kiddies, it's not as fun as it sounds.
  8. When I was a freshman in HS, my math teacher told me that If I could remember Pi to the first 100 places, I could use that as my test grade... I'd get a point for every place I remembered. When I finally missed, that's my grade. I remembered the whole thing.. up to 100. I then proceeded to cut the next class and spend the entire hour smoking in the boys' room. So, how's everyone feel 'bout 'e?' WIthout which, there's no 'ln!' Oh, and golden rectanges!! God I'm such a dork. -Jeff
  9. No no, you must be confused ---- we're *not* talking about the Bills. We've determined that the Sabres have enough cowbell.
  10. They do that annoying "Welcome to Moe's!" crap whenever someone walks in the door. MUCH better quality than Taco Bell, and they sell beer. My wife loves the place. She told me that whenever Buffalo gets one, we can move back. I need to be told when you Buffalonians spot one!
  11. Let me ask that dude at work... I've never done much more than experiment with it. The only thing that worries me is that your webserver load would go hand-in-hand with your chat load, i.e. gamedays. -Jeff
  12. I'd shoot myself in the face if I had to use an Ajax-based (web based) chat program. A hundred users or so on an irc server ain't so bad. We keep one running at work with ~30 or so people constantly logged in, that seems to work fine and it's on someone's desktop. A dude at work has run a couple in the past, I"ll see what he says.. not many people actually run chat servers. -Jeff
  13. Can always run an irc daemon on your dedicated box...

  15. Right, but if you're strict, the husband runs the house. Nagging would be non-existant. The woman run the kids. They're supposed to be on equal-ground. I work with a guy who busted out of the church at ~19. He tells all kinds of stories. Bishops would show up at your house on a Sunday and say "God has chosen you for fasting today, please give us the money you would have spent on food today as the church is in need", and they would. -Jeff
  16. I know it's NOWHERE NEAR as cool as Empire, but where the hell is GR's streaming? It keep hearing "it's coming, it's coming..."
  17. My boss is a very devout Mormon. Lots of times, you can see it spilling over into the decisions he makes. I know a few... some of the things they've said in that show are a lot closer to the truth than you realize. -Jeff
  18. This was the first Sopranos I've ever seen.... officially hooked. -Jeff
  19. I for one am glad. It's a little known fact that Democratic Senators (and Republicans, sometimes) are actually inherently better at parenting than all parents are. Didn't know that, did you? Just remember, it does in fact, take a village (even a state sometimes, as this man has been kind enough to point out). Just another self-rightous butthole, in my opinion. In other news, TN now has the #1 schools in the nation, crime free cities, a 0.0% unemployment rate, no state income tax, and everyone is college educated.
  20. Oh good lord... check out THIS picture of her: http://www.cgriffin.com/images/carala_griffin_pic.jpg.
  21. I thought the same thing, and a rarely think about the photographer when boobs are concerned.
  22. My wife was watching an Opera about that a few weeks ago. Everything that was crappy about his day was blamed on racism.
  23. Or, in this case, a ball of hot wax.
  24. Ha. Yeah, but it's free.
