  1. Super weird, for sure, but its his way of not answering the question. By taking it to the extreme and making it about "any player" he's avoiding answering the question altogether. Which, of course, is a way of answering the question...
  2. His #1 goal is help THE FRANCHISE.
  3. I'll say they trade up for Phillips
  4. Terrific add to the conversation, thanks for chiming in.
  5. WHOLE lot of agree to disagree here. "There is NO WAY they’re giving a rookie RB on the smaller side 18-22 touches per game in Daboll’s offense" -- why? Devin Singletary, a significantly SMALLER player with worse draft capital than Etienne averaged 15 touches in his rookie year and it's worth pointing out that he only started 2/3 of those games. A 1st round round RB isn't going to be worth 3 more touches a game? Agree to disagree. "in Daboll's offense" -- a lot of people on this board talk about this like we've been the greatest show on turf for the last decade. In Brian Daboll's career as an OC, last year was the ONLY year his offenses threw the ball more than 52% of the time. Daboll's shown an ability to adjust and adapt based on his weapons, so adding a talented RB to bring more balance to the offense doesn't exactly seem like a deathknell to that player's statistics. "It just isn’t going to happen, not in 2021 and even afterwards, not unless they tweak the offense and trade Motor or Moss." Aside from your opinion, what is this based on? Motor and Moss have been meh at best, and the entire point of drafting a RB in the later rounds is that they're expendable if they don't perform or if you find a better alternative. That would be this situation to a tee. Again, I'm not pushing Etienne, I'm saying IF they front office took him in the first, they wouldn't be letting a couple of very middling backs affect his path to success. "He’s not a “bell cow” back" Define "bell cow back" He's as big or bigger than Kamara, Ekeler, Motor (lol), Kenyon Drake, Christian McCaffrey, Cam Akers, D'Andre Swift, Miles Sanders, JK Dobbins.... "and he doesn’t pass block." Fine, let him run routes and catch passes, because he's VERY good at doing that. There are bell cow backs who don't pass block every passing play. "Are you taking the ball out of Allen’s hands to feed Etiene?" In the running game? ABSOLUTELY. You want our franchise QB taking hits in the open field? I don't. Your entire argument seems to be built around this imagined size issue and the notion that 2 underperforming 3rd round picks stand in the way of unleashing a unique weapon like Etienne.
  6. Agreed -- busy work day over here and didn't want to get into the finer details, but the gist, I think, is that he would be a weird fit, given our roster.
  7. Lol yep. Great value, but I can't see it happening.
  8. He's not a 1T. Barring a scheme adjustment, he'd be a replacement for Oliver, which... not exactly an ideal use of assets.
  9. What is that percentage based off of? If you're drafting a RB in the first round, he's starting over your 2 failed former-3rd-round picks. If you're drafting Etienne at 30, he's getting 18-22 touches a game, and a guy with his skillset, in this offense is going to be putting up solid, if not very good numbers with that many touches. I'm not saying Etienne has to be the pick, but you're using faulty logic to reach your conclusion.
  10. Not sure what folks’ obsession is with Basham but that’s 2 very meh prospects and an undersized gadget player with injury questions. I’d be far from thrilled with this outcome...
  11. Because he’s not elite?
  12. Probably true, or a future pick. If it got Phillips it’d be worth it
  13. Bills trade UP for Phillips in the 22ish range. Bills take a WR but not until day 3. Bills take a CB in rd. 2 or 3
  14. Lot of good work put in here, unfortunately only 1, maybe 2 of these guys will still be on the board at 30.
  15. Have a lot of respect for Dean and the amount that he grinds. I also do not have the time, energy, resources, or ability to put together anything resembling what he did for that writeup. All that said, that's a ton of work for a bunch of very 'meh' picks. To me, this amounts to: 1 average starter in Dickerson A high-upside gamble on Melifonwu 2 big fatties that can maybe form a solid rotation in Wilson and Tonga at an exceedingly replaceable position A journeyman/meh depth guy in Toney An interesting longshot type guy in Sherwood and 2 doubtful to make the rosters in Eubanks and Tommy Doyle I'd be pretty disappointed if this was our haul. Again, big respect to Dean for the work he put in, just not loving the output...
  16. With the 100th pick the San Diego Los Angeles Chargers select Spencer Brown, Tackle, Northern Iowa. Brown is The 2nd tackle the Chargers have drafted in this draft. Though not a massive need, the Chargers DO need a talent infusion on the lines and desperately need to keep Justin Herbert upright. Brown has the kind athleticism to start in a swing tackle role and grow into a killer RT (had he played for a big-name program, he would've gone much earlier than this), bookending Rashawn Slater. The Lions @Reed83HOF are on the clock.
  17. Because he should have been?! lol He and Nico Collins are both steals in the 3rd...
  18. As others have said, most draft choices ARE long-term decisions. I'm not sure how much what he's saying could possibly be a lie. I was just trying to take his comments and apply them to what we think we know about our own team's setup, going into the draft.
  19. This one doesn't take a lot of though (since we almost took him 20 picks earlier... With the 97th pick in the NFL draft, the Los Angeles Chargers select Dwayne Eskridge, WR, Western Michigan. Justin Herbert gets another toy. The NO Saints @CNYfan are on the clock.
  20. One more thought: I totally spaced RB on the stock up/down/shrug... Kenny Gainwell might be one to watch and is someone not talked a lot about on these boards... He doesn't possess the typical size of a lead/bellcow back, but he's incredibly dynamic. Per Beane's "future" comment, and knowing what we do(n't) have at RB and in the return game already, I could absolutely see him being a guy that they could give 5ish touches/game, get involved in the return game too and to learn, and basically take slowly to gauge how much he could be a lead back (my opinion, he could be an 18-20 touch guy like Kamara). Somewhat random, but definitely feels like -- outside of size -- checks a LOT of boxes.
  21. I still maintain a trade up is V likely too. Obviously mocks aren't the be-all/end-all, but it does feel like a handful of guys a tier higher than those that we're discussing go in the mid/late-20s. Ex: to me, a guy like Farley (if he checks out medically) or Newsome or Paye is probably worth paying the cost to move up 5ish spots, rather than taking a Campbell or Ossai... Problem is -- unless we're changing schemes, there's no one remotely worth a 1st rd. pick at DT.
  22. I know this has been posted elsewhere, so mods feel free to merge if deemed necessary, but wanted to lay out a general line of thinking taking this comment a step or two further... From Beane's presser the other day: So what might this mean in terms of position and player priority as they're looking at the draft? While none of this is mind-blowing, it tells me a couple things: Higher paid positions likely more in play than lower (CB, over S, for instance) Immediate needs become less of a priority than longer-term ones (see DE/WR age/depth/future contract situations) What impact does our franchise QB's health play into that? Might be too deep of a read into that quote, but we know the staff believes in building successful season on top of successful season. Could potentially bring OT into play... General player health might play a role too -- specifically thinking of Morse here. Given the contract they gave him to come from KC, the staff clearly prioritizes the C position... Probably "nothing to see here" but also fair to wonder if the decision to delay committing to Edmunds' 5th year extension could play interestingly there as well. Given his age and his athleticism, he'd still be an intriguing trade chip and there's depth to be found in the LB class this year... In general, if my thesis is proven correct, I think this statement from Beane probably means: Stock up: DE, CB, WR, OT, C Stock down: S, OG, 🤷‍♂️: LB, TE, 3T, 1T
  23. Depends on what the board looks like, but I definitely think he’d quickly become a fan favorite
