  1. a big rock in the middle of New Era field with a sword in it that only Allen can pull out accompanied by a light from above and a choir of angels. As likely as everyone agreeing
  2. This is a guy who keeps trying to rush back from an injury and is only making things worse for himself. I can understand his sense of urgency when there is two young TE studs taking all the reps on the field and football is his livelihood. He needs to be a bit selfish and take care of his body first and foremost. This seems very similar to the injury to Watkins got early in his Bills debut that stole much of his career; as planting and cutting on a weak ankle is a simple recipe for injuring it again.
  3. Good to know Gunner, but give me 3 years of trending on Allen providing his supporting cast stays constant (which we know is not the case for any QB, but I think we are fortunate to have some level of continuity with this current staff under Beane and McDermott, maybe then I will find some value in the information. As you say, it is a tool not gospel. I don't completely disregard it, but would be prescriptive in how I apply the information they gather. Since the Bill's front office went after the analytics guy in Miami, I am sure they find value in using analytics in a way that they feel help them improve as a team - there is a place for it.
  4. Truth. This is how we end up getting kicked in the sprinkler by teams we expect to beat. Focus on obliterating the next obstical.
  5. Over time, using different individuals objectively applying the same tools to measure the same things you should come up with a more objective measurement, but if PFF uses the same tools and the same people to measure performance there is a greater chance of seeing a bias play out when measuring something that is inherently subjective. That is why as fans we can be comfortable with what our own analysis tells us and keep in mind that players can develop into better players if they have the skills and are given the right coaching and supporting environment. It just takes time and patience. A subset of subjective performance data does not paint the full picture of where a player is, or where he will be over time. I for one, tuned out PFF a while back, and just decided to trust what I was seeing in regards to Allen's development. Not just his ability to dump the ball off in 4 yard increments successfully 30x in a row, but making the correct read, looking defenders off, throwing with anticipation, carrying out play fakes, avoiding the rush, protecting the ball, situational awareness and clock management. There is so much that goes into a QB's development. I am feeling good about Allen's maturation to date, but am realistic to know that most all of us grow by making mistakes and correcting them. Allen will have his share of mistakes, but as long as he learns from them and tries to apply what he has learned we cannot ask for much more than that. I said it before, but being in the same division as Belichick is a curse and a blessing because Allen is young and smart and is going to see just about every defensive wrinkle a coach could throw at him to confuse him, but that means that in a few years there will be very little he has not seen before. One of the things that makes Brady so good (besides his line getting a pass on holding calls) is his ability to read defenses no matter how hard coordinators try to disguise what they are trying to do on each play. That is why he can throw to an open spot and it is very difficult to defend where that will be, and why zone is ineffective against him and when in man they have perfected the rub plays.
  6. The ones that mimicked those horrible Titan unis - have to agree. Hated those. Mentioned before, but if the took those classic blue unis w/red helmets and went metalic on the colors I think they would look awesome. To each their own, but it would be fun if OBD would let the fans submit and vote on a uniform.
  7. He was labeled coming out of college and most of the national media talking heads are far better at parroting opinions than actual film study. Allen succeeding torpedoes their narrative, and their credibility. And let's face it, folks other than Bills fans would rather see this franchise making poor decisions and staying predictably at the bottom. BTW.... I am old enough to remember "Rocket Ship 7 and Dave in the Morning" nice avatar.
  8. The all whites are lame. The color-rush Reds burn the eyes. Like the blues - and do not care if it is a blue or red helmets - thought the old blue unis with the red helmets were pretty balanced and classy. Chest bump.
  9. It is interesting how well they nail those later round picks, yet struggle reeling in offensive talent in the early rounds. Ford to me was not going to contribute at RT this year after watching film of him; thought he would best serve at guard for this season. Not the worse thing in the world if he is outplayed and has to ride the pine a bit. I still think he would do a solid job at guard, but Feliciano is currently playing at a high level so he should be backing up both RG and RT spots as he grows into an NFL calibre o-lineman. Just needs to work on the foot speed if he is manning the edge at RT. Sends the wrong message if your org feels compelled to play their draft picks if a UFA and/or PS player is out-performing them and it feels like politics when they have Ford as 1st on the RT depth chart when Ty Nsekhe has the edge right now.
  10. The Dareus thing is actually pretty common and frustrating for coaches. Guys with tons of natural talent are more often than not harder to motivate than guys who have had to work their way up the food chain of competition that were blessed with great athletic genetics. There is a tipping point where if an athlete does not have the discipline and drive to compete they can no longer keep pace with those who do have that work ethic. Dareus was as naturally gifted as they come, but that work ethic and drive to compete and love for the game... not sure that was there at an NFL level. It happens, and I have seen pretty gifted athletes walk away and it was the right move for them to recognize they are missing some key ingredients.
  11. Well well... as a wise man once said, "You are either part of the solution, or you are part of the problem". The way things are going history may very well pin-point the moment the Bills franchise started to turn the ship around and become more successful as the moment Vonte walked off the team. So whatever... not really interested in what he has to say; there is a right way and a wrong way to do things when you are on a team and we all know where Vonte lands on that score.
  12. They threw us a bone, but will be interesting watching "the experts" try to walk back all their nonsense regarding Allen. Allen isn't there yet, but he came into the league as a talented, but raw project. He is what we thought he was. You can ruin guys like that if you do not give them the time and the resources to grow into the role. The patience of this coaching staff, and Allen's commitment to self-improvement is a good sign that he is in the right system. Everyone is a bit high now, but there will be some bumps along the way. It will be interesting to see if this is a more mature team that takes care of business against struggling teams like good teams do, or if they play down to the level of those teams as I have seen so often in the past. Good litmus test coming up.
  13. Zay makes routine catches look hard because he always leaves his feet and is either leaping or diving to trap the ball. I think he just does not trust his hands and that's a problem with a qb who is going to throw passes on a rope in front of his receiver and away from the defender trailing him.
  14. Are you Dan Snyder trolling us? I think I have seen this play out. All you need is star power baby, don't need discipline, ef drafting well or developing from within.
  15. So how much has he improved the Jags pass d? And NE makes every team look silly defending all their dinks and dunks, and rub plays. Doubt Ramsey suddenly makes them beatable.
  16. and still no... We have a #1 pass defense sans this clown. Honestly do not care if a player is confident and feels strong in their game, or if they diss every QB in the league, but the attention-craving divas get under my skin.
  17. Well you got to start somewhere to establish your baseline for perf evals and improvement. We will see where this goes, but I think NFL orgs that have success have to have owners that let their head coaches coach and their GMs manage - check. And having your head coach and GM on the same page certainly does not hurt - check. Draft well - check. A capable QB to build around - really want to say check here too, but a bit too soon. Certainly hoping Allen is our guy, as he is pretty entertaining and likeable on and off the field. Been a while since the Bills org was run professionally.
  18. I think this regime is better about doing a full e v a l of the coaching staff too. Rarely have I seen a front office so willing to part ways with a coach that does not grade out well or simply where they feel the coaching position could be upgraded; players yes, but coaches not-so-much. It is hard to sell the concept of accountability and improvement to players if the coaching staff is exempt. They are building something here....not sure where it is going, but at least it feels different.
  19. I am usually chill with mispellings, just think that pointing them out can be overused as a tool to discredit sound debate. Heck most of us are on our phones where typos easily happen and auto correct can have unforeseen consequences. Like a friend of mine that sent out a mass corporate email that ended with "Sorry for the incontinence".
  20. Lamar is in the right system for his skills - Roman will get the most out of him and although his first two games were against the weakest opponents I do not see Baltimore collapsing. That being said, if Lamar gets dinged and has to throw from the pocket, he loses the read-option running threat and he could struggle. Kind of the same fear I had with Allen relying too much on his legs last year - you have to develop good pocket skills to last in this league. I am not a big fan of rating these QBs, just because they are in different systems, with different supporting casts, and different skill sets. They all bring something unique to the table and it is something to have that many starters come out of one class. I don't know that last time that has happened - I will leave it to our history buffs to find out. I have been a bit surprised at how well Darnold has played for the Jets, he is solid, and I think he has the tools to stick in the league for a while if he can stay healthy.
  21. But it is fun to think of all the new names for "idiot" that we come up with for the national media pundits. That, and if we started getting too much love and respect the world as we know it would come to an end. Well - they do. In all fairness "the Saints" have taken over the top spot on the secret list of teams they maintain to poop on each season that we KNOW exists. Ralph is cheap. We have a process to help cure you of this process-mentioning intolerance. Not disagreeing, the few times we have beaten NE it has been with someone else under center - Brady is like having another OC on the field. I still want my Bills to punch him in his 42 year old va-j-j and cannot wait for him to retire already.
  22. Folks that correct grammar (incorrectly) that has nothing to do with the topic *************************************************** you're [yo͝or, yôr] CONTRACTION you are. "you're an angel, Deb!" or "you're not a true fan..." as in a contraction of "You are" not a true fan....
  23. I actually feel kind of bad for Rosen - went from a bad situation in Zona to a raging dumpster fire in Miami. Would not wish that on any QB. He is going to get smoked down there if he starts in place of Fitz. At least Fitz gets rid of the ball more quickly, even if it was to the wrong team:)
