  1. Obamacare is almost the same thing as Romneycare, Although Romney was for it before he was against it. Since then he has been for it, except when Obamacare passed, when he decided to be against it again. Have you seen the interviews when he is asked about it? Hilarious. He has plenty of time to come out for it before 2012 if public support increases. Actually, he has time to change his mind 3 or 4 times before then. Not sure how the Republicans will be able to support him. How do they reconcile their absolute hatred of Obamacare with the person who actually implemented the same thing in Mass? Actually, if the FNC keeps generating nuts at the current rate, Palin-Bachmann looks like a lock to be the Republican ticket. You might actually get the Democrats praying for the Rapture if they actually get elected.
  2. The biggest problem I see with a flat tax is implementation. Initially, the government has to collect the same amount of revenue. So implementing a flat tax creates some humungous winners and losers. If the flat tax rate is 15%, everyone with an effectiv tax rate greater than that is an instant winner. But someone has to be a big loser in this in order to balance the total tax revenue. Probably includes everyone making between 50k and 200k per year having their taxes go up in order for everyone above 200k to have a huge tax cut. The more you make the larger the tax cut you get. Does anyone see a problem with this? If the goal is tax simplification, you could accomplish it with several tiers. In other words, no deductions, but income brackets of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, etc. You could still pay your income tax on the back of a postcard, but you wouldn't have every millionaire getting a huge tax cut paid for by the middle class.
  3. I coached t-ball a while back. Make sure that you change the positions for the players in the field each inning. The pitcher and the 1st baseman get 90% of the action. I would try to let every kid have the opportunity to field a ball at least once a game. I never minded the no scoring rules. What I didn't care for was letting the kids stay on the bases even if they were thrown out or popped out. You want them to be able to at least play a game that resembles baseball.
  4. No a short sale on a house is when you owe the bank more than the house is worth and the bank allows you to sell the house for less than the mortgage balance and writes off the balance of the home. For example, your mortgage on the house is $200k, but the most you can sell it for is $120k. The bank MAY allow you to sell it for what it's worth and basically writes off the balance of your mortgage. In this case, the bank writes off $80k. You no longer owe the bank the $80k, but the bank will issue you a 1099-C because you are deemed to have received $80k in taxable income as a result of the debt forgiveness. Lots of short sales going on in FL, CA and other real estate bubble areas.
  5. You will be issued a 1099-C for the amount of the debt forgiven. This is normally taxable income. However, there are a couple of exclusions: In your case, you get to exclude up to $2 million on your personal residence. The following is from the IRS website: IRS webpage There is also an exclusion if you are insolvent at the time of the short sale. Basically this means your net worth is negative. This can help out a lot of people who may be underwater on their rental properties. In this case you would need to document your financial position at the time of the short sale and there is a form you file with your tax return. Since it is your personal residence, you should qualify under the first exclusion and won't have to report it on your tax return.
  6. Someone recently told me about Breaking Bad so I watched the first 2 season in about a week. Awesome show, and even better when you get to watch it all one after the other. Now that I'm hooked it kind of sucks to only be fed one episode a week. As far as all time, I put Breaking Bad right up there with Sopranos, Wire, The Shield, Sons of Anarchy
  7. You might want to slow things down yourself. He only has 45 days from the end of the listing to file a complaint with ebay. Let him take his time and then delay him a little yourself to run out the clock.
  8. Yes, you will be out the shipping costs. But the buyer will have to pay the shipping to return it to you. This might give him an incentive to keep it. The policy really sucks for sellers. But if you buy stuff on ebay, keep it in mind if you are ever unhappy with an item. Just file a complaint and you can return it even if the seller stated no returns, sales final or whatever. Also, sellers can no longer give negative feedback, so I never hesitate to send back if I find something wrong with an item.
  9. As others stated, you will need an HD box or an antenna to pick up local channels in HD. You should also search the internet for calibration for your model. Lots of geeks like to post what they feel are the best settings for each tv. I recently bought a 47" LCD and the "Trumotion" feature was on by default. Every review that I read said to turn it off. The TV looks so much better with it off.
  10. One more thing...you will be refunded the ebay and paypal fees if the guy sends it back.
  11. Actually, you are screwed. Under Ebay/paypal, he can get a refund up to 45 days after the purchase if he just files a claim and says it is different than what was listed. It doesn't matter if you say no returns, as-is, or whatever. It's happened to me both as a seller and as a buyer. The buyer will have to send it back to you but you will be charged-back for the full price + shipping that the seller paid. The buyer has to pay the shipping to return it to you. I called Paypal to complain the first time it happened to me but I got nowhere with them. You can negotiate with the buyer to keep it and you can give a partial credit. The only thing that helped me once is that the buyer decided to keep the item rather than having to pay the $30 to ship it back to me. I think that he was just trying to extort a partial credit from me. Doesn't seem fair but that is part of the price of doing business on ebay.
  12. I use a fusion too. I buy the cartridges on ebay for about $2 each (I buy 16 at a time). One tip...the fusion power blades cost more than the regular fusion blades, but the only difference is the color. The power ones are orange, the regular fusion blades are blue.
  13. 24309 kbps Download 9377 kbps Upload 23 ms Latency 0 ms Jitter FIOS - Hamburg, NY Speedtest.net: 20.97 Down 15.93 Up I love FIOS
  14. I have all of their albums on my pc. What I like best is "Delicate Sound of Thunder". A live album that gives you the best of everything.
  15. I was thinking it was going to be tough but I got it in about 10 seconds.
  16. MSG is owned by Cablevision. They are withholding the HD feed from FIOS in order to be dicks. Verizon has filed complaints and I also saw recently that Cablevision is spinning off MSG as a separate company. Hopefully, FIOS will have it soon.
  17. I did the same thing...Pure gold! Especially with BF trying to hijack the thread with the Ron Artest stuff. Classic stuff!
  18. Is there a Gross Profit number on your financials? Sales - Gross Profit should give you COGS. Inventory turns is an important number for several reasons. Most importantly, if you can get your inventory to turn over faster than your Vendor payment terms, you are essentially having your vendors finance your inventory, which is a good position to be in. For example. if you are getting 12 turns a year on your inventory (turning every 30 days) and you're paying your vendors in 30 days, your vendors are basically financing your inventory for you.
  19. Reminds me of a joke: What's the difference between the Spice Girls movie and a porno flick? The porno flick has better music. I also vote Nickelcrap as the worst band ever.
  20. Congrats! At least we won't have to hear you whining about your job hunt!
  21. I don't think that many people have seen this report about the "shed" and "electrical closet" that James was subjected to. Here's a link to an interview with Leach's attorney. A tour of the "shed" The initial reports made it sound like he locked the kid in a small closet.
  22. Hopefully, he hasn't started some management training program at McDonalds and is still available.
  23. If all else fails, back up your data and use your restore disk to reinstall windows. It's a pain, but it should solve your problem.
  24. Believe it or not, Microsoft has come out with a decent free package...Microsoft Security Essentials. It has gotten some good reviews online for being lightweight and very easy to use. Very quick download and it seems to use very little system resources. It sets itself up quickly and doesn't bother you at all. Microsft Security Essentials I have given up on many of the "security suites". In most cases they are bloated and use a ton of resources.
