It’s funny how quickly things can change. If the Bills make the playoffs this coming season, that will be 2 out of 3 years despite inheriting a weak roster with ageing players and no cap space. There will always be fans who judge their QB against Mahomes and their coach against McVay. I’m seeing reasons to have faith rather than dreaming of upgrades at HC and GM.

Incidentally I’m not keen on Jonah either. I’ve only seen a couple of his games vs Georgia and Clemson, so obviously high quality opponents. I thought DeAndre Walker bullied him a bit. By all accounts he did ok yesterday but he didn’t really flash as a dominant player. Perhaps that’s unreasonable expectations but unlike to see a high pick do well against quality opponents or in big games, especially if I’m spending a top 10 pick on him.

Good question. I think I do struggle to get the better of my own bias. An example of this is I automatically don’t want my team to touch women beaters of which there seem an astonishingly large number among NFL players. Is that fair considering I’m not familiar with the context? Absolutely not, but there it is. So that’s Simmons and at least one other prospect I can’t recall off the top of my head. Don’t care how much of a Tyreek Hill impact they have on my team or how much value they give by dropping.

Of course hes entitled to his opinion. I’m not sure that living in Carolina gives him greater insight per se, but I can sympathize with having to live among partisan fans and media. Even as a Panther fan I get sick of having him shoved down my throat but I suppose we should expect than when many franchises live and die by their quarterback. I completely agree that many folks don’t see him as likeable. That’s fair imo. What I do take exception to is when people polarize their opinion so much that they take it to extremes. This is the similarity I see with Allen. People decided they didn’t like him at the draft, then before he’s even played you have folks saying he’s trash or inaccurate. Allen has no OL no receivers and is a rookie QB but people compare him to Mayfield as though it’s a level playing field! The teams are nothing alike. As for Cam, he isn’t Tyrod and it’s daft to suggest it. He is the best QB the Panthers have ever had and he’s already achieved more than many will in their career. He may be declining but if so the world will keep turning for me.

Well if you’ve watched a lot of him you will know that early in his career he had an absolute cannon of an arm. His deep throws were a true weapon and the deterioration of his arm strength has been sad to behold, a shadow of what it was and due largely to being given no investment in oline and very few weapons. The best receiver he ever had was Steve Smith at the end of his career prior to this year. Did you know he has more 4th quarter comebacks than Aaron Rodgers? Now look he’s not a top 5 QB and his mechanics and commitment to his craft are questionable. It’s completely fair to say he was overeliant on his physicality, although he was put in that position and not discouraged from it. He’s immature and his bad games are total shockers but if you think Panthers would have made the playoffs 4 times in the last 5 seasons without him I would say you are mistaken. It’s a flawed roster. You’re right that he’s been guilty of putting himself in the path of harm. For me selflessness is not a terrible quality. He’s also taken some horrific helmet hits which haven’t drawn flags. Safe to say he doesn’t fall into the golden boy category of Brady or Brees.

This must be how Bills fans feel when people trot out the same old cliches about Allen. As a Panther fan who has watched the games I can tell you he had a completion percentage of almost 70% going into week 8. He was having the best season of his career statistically. Then the injury began to have a noticeable effect on his play. Not sure what you mean by the head case and focus comments but that is a standard accusation of Cam haters. I’m not fond of his persona. We will see if he’s done though. Sounds like a hot take to me. I will say I’m glad they shut him down this year. You know that people will be saying this about Allen too right? I hope for the Bills that you give Josh more help than Cam got. This is completely true.

You find equivalence between Tyrod and Cam? I mean I get that people dislike him but he won MVP with a team where Ted Ginn was the best receiver. That year we were dominant despite a fairly weak roster. Unfortunately we lost the big game so it’s meaningless, but he pretty much carried the team that year. That’s what a franchise QB does-regardless of whether you like him. I’m thinking maybe you’re giving Tyrod a bit too much credit here. Our pass D has been abysmal it’s true, but I wonder if the Bills would hold the saints to only one TD? Actually maybe they would. But we were 6-2 and considered a lock for the playoffs prior to our 6 game losing streak in the weakest part of our schedule. This happened to coincide with Cam’s shoulder injury flaring up.

This assumes that it’s complete given that all TEs take 4 years to develop. Just because someone says it on the thread doesn’t make it a fact. OJ Howard, Kittle are 2 recent TEs making significant immediate impact. Of course statistically it’s possible even likely. But Fant can stretch the field as well as a WR. There isn’t a player drafted who doesn’t come with risk. Perhaps a less risky alternative is taking a FA like Tyler Kroft and drafting a sleeper TE like Alize Mack later on. It’s reasonable to say there are plenty of holes on this roster, but a reliable TE outlet would really help JA’s development.

I agree with this. DK Metcalf is the stand out , but he comes with risk due to lack of production and ending his college career injured. I like Harmon but not high in the 1st. Fant as a weapon/release valve for JA, projects just as well as any WR and is equally a position of need. He can’t block so isn’t the complete package but trading back he would be an option. A clear upgrade over CC who could grow with JA.

I see a few guys I like and others that represent good value later. Good OTs can be had outside rnd 1. Dawkins and Williams/Moton from my Panthers are good examples of that. There seems to be a prevailing narrative that OL options aren’t what they were but there are plenty of successes to go with the failures. I would draft a center- one of Biadasz, Dieter, McCoy or Jenkins. At least one of them will be available in the 3rd. Little or Williams could be drafted as OTs in the 1st but with other needs I would take Daryl Williams or Jaquan James at RTin FA. If Saffold is available he would solve a position at G, but I would still want to draft another G. I would go after either Dalton Risner or Max Scharping- both highly graded Pff guys who have had college careers at OT but are projected to operate at G in the NFL. This way if an OT is injured you have T depth and Teller can come in as G depth. In this scenario (ideally) you trade back in the first, GB would be ideal with 2 firsts. This gives you an extra 2nd rounder. You are spending a late 1st on Risner and a 3rd on a C. Or a 2nd on Scharping and a 3rd on a C solving the Oline and leaving 2 high picks. If you wanted to draft an RT instead of using FA Cajuste and Edwards would both be good 2nd Rnd picks. You end up with: Dawkins Saffold Dieter Risner Williams A nice mix of experience and youth imo with this year’s affordable starters retained as depth.

The difference being that I’m not second guessing a draft after half a season or telling people what should have happened. That would be you. It’s a pity. I respect that you drive a lot of the content on TSW and are clearly passionate. But your biases are rather plain to see.

Fair enough. You are talking about showing intent to fix a lack of speed. My guess is everyone agrees on the importance of that to any offense. But St Brown wouldn’t have brought that- and I say that with hindsight. It would have cost you a better player elsewhere for the sake of scratching an itch.

Do you think considering the historic numbers that high octane KC O is putting up that he is finally living up to his draft position and hype? You’re obviously a SW fan but I’m gonna say without any vested interest that his numbers are at best patchy and inconsistent. Also it’s funny that Sean McVay didn’t see anything he liked in the WRs in this draft yet all the armchair Gms here know better.

I too saw st Brown mocked high. It seems there must be something up for him to fall to the 6th. I was surprised too. But investing a high pick in him or someone else would have shown prioritizing as you say. But what else? It is highly unlikely that he would have transformed this O single handedly. Would fans be satisfied with his current level of production at the Bills for a high pick and losing say Phillips. In this alternate reality would TSW have threads suggesting that HP was available but the Bills wasted a pick on “another” Zay Jones. I can just picture it. That’s why I call it hindsight. I get that people are frustrated with Bills WRs. But imagine supporting a team that had Benjamin and Funchess as receivers! Ugh. By the way. St Brown has a brother at USC (a WR with an even more awesome name)- Amon Ra. So your chances at drafting a St Brown are not yet gone!

This I agree with as a Panthers fan. Benjamin had his good games against strong teams for us. But his mistakes, lack of effort, and being badly overweight at TC were all red flags. In addition, he seems to be immature and come up with excuses. Even when he left, I still hoped he could be better, but something was clearly up for us to trade him when we were going to the playoffs and had a lack of WR production. Once Funchess was injured we were down to PS guys in the playoffs and that’s not gonna fly in New Orleans. No doubt the Bills were fleeced in the trade. But things can improve quickly, if you have even an average QB with good WRs. Speed has helped us a lot. Just promise me one thing. Dont take Funchess in free agency. He’s a Benjamin clone,

So taking a 6th rounder instead of a UDFA is enough prioritizing speed for you? He’s a 4.48 guy. I mean I don’t get it. Even though I would have taken st Brown over the guys they took in 6 and 7 too, the argument falls down because given opportunities on a better offense he hasn’t done much. If you want to use hindsight at least pick a guy like Tre’Quan Smith, Keke Coutee, or Valdez Scantling who have been difference makers.

This thread is too funny. I completely agree with @Alphadawg7 it’s hilarious all these revisionists with the benefit of hindsight who pretend that if you draft a top WR who plays on the Falcons opposite Julio with Ryan throwing the ball, that his production would be exactly the same if he was dropped into this team. Um no. Him and St Brown who has done nothing with Rodgers throwing to them don’t come here and get the same numbers. To even suggest it is laughable. Just count all the advantages they have at the team they are at. It would be fair if they had drafted badly with those picks but this was mostly good drafting.
