Draft better and you can afford to let guys walk. The problem has been the drafting and player development. I will also add in smart in season moves. The Chiefs won the game because of guys like - Toney (trade deadline move the Bills could have made, Pacheco (rookie, 7th rounder), Skyy Moore (rookie, 2nd rounder), JuJu (FA sub $4m contract), and 6 rookies playing some significant snaps on defense (McDuffie, Watson, Williams, Karlaftis, Chenal, Cook).

Khalil Shakir / answer for WR 2 / Makes Sports Illustrated
ngbills replied to Figster's topic in The Stadium Wall
I tend to not buy the "he would have done zyz if only he had the chance". There is usually a reason and its not like he was sitting behind a ton of guys. We were so light at WR that we signed Brown and Beasley. Its more likely he is not good enough yet and may never be more than a jag. Could have a decent game here or there or could not be dressing for games. Very unlikely he is a #2 on a playoff team. -
We would likely have drafted Sam Darnold...

Would you resign Edmunds or a tackle?
ngbills replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Edmunds will always be at least a above average starting caliber LB. In the right system does reach star status? Maybe, but he at least has a very high floor which will make somebody pay. Free agent LB this year: Deion Jones Lavante David Devin Bush Anthony Walker Jr Rashaan Evans Alex Anzelone Kyle Van Noy Denzel Perryman TJ Edwards Kwon Alexander Dylan Cole Germaine Pratt Kyzier White Lots of replacements and that is just the start of the list. -
Free Agents; Bolder are positions a starter needs to be replaced. QB: Keenum - Need to replace with back up. RB: Singletary, Jones - Need starter. Cook can replace or look to upgrade in draft FA. WR: Crowder, Beas, Brown, Kumerow - Need starter and depth. Not on roster, sorry McK, Shakir. TE: Sweeney - Could upgrade TE2/3. OL: Murray, Quessenberry, Saffold, Hart, Ike B, Van Roten - Need starters and depth. Not on roster. A lot of work needed. DL: Phillips, Lawson - Need depth at DE and DT. LB: Edmunds, Dodson, Klein, Mata - Need starter and depth. Not on roster, no Bernard, Spector are not starters. DB: Poyer, Johnson, Marlowe, Jackson, Lewis - Need starter and depth. Not SS starter is not on roster. P: Martin - Need starter. Not on roster.

We are in trouble if we try the same approach at WR. Diggs and Davis, Shakir, McK just wont cut it or we are fighting to just make the playoffs.

Bills now no longer have 2 fifths but one fifth and one sixth
ngbills replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Remember last year when many said it is great to be at a point the draft does not really matter? That did not last long. -
Chiefs are more like the Bills. We are the Dolphins, Oilers, Chiefs, etc.

Should QB Compensation Be Carved Out of the Salary Cap?
ngbills replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
My proposal: Only non-drafted players count toward the salary cap. So you can keep all of your drafted or UDFA and it has no cap impact. But free agent spending is capped and leveled out amongst teams. Rewards teams that draft well rather than punish them. -
Head Coach Broncos: Sean Payton Texans: DeMico Ryans DC Dolphins: Fangio Browns: Jim Schwartz OC Jets: Nathaniel Hackett Chargers: Kellen Moore Patriots: Bill O'Brien

Benford produced? Played in 9 games, none more than. I would agree he played more than people thought but produced is generous. Shakir had moments. That is a low bar. He may or may not be involved next year. Hopefully the Bills sign a WR in free agency, draft one high and Shakir is still below Diggs, free agent, draft pick, davis and possibly more.

This is a sad reality check of why KC is still better than us.

Perhaps Kromer is overrated as an OLine coach?
ngbills replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
OL, Kromer, Allen, Dorsey...pick your poison. But some combination of this group did a bad job. -

ngbills replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
If Edmunds resigns its one of two things 1) He wants to be here 2) No one else wants him. There is no magic involved. -

Von healthy how do we score more than 10 points? I think we still lose and then its even more painful.
-
I would cut Hines and not sign Signletary. Then either go all in with a Barkley or Jacobs guy. Or you go $2M or so for a Perine or Mostert type to pair with Cook. Draft a RB late. Dont see the point spending an extra few million.

Bills need to draft better and do better in free agency. Look at the Bills Bills roster construction vs Chiefs. This year KC is getting a ton out of guys making $2M or less. So many examples - Dunlap making $3M while we pay Tyler Mata over $3M. Look at the low end of the cap and they get a ton of production while we are paying guys $3M+ for less. Next year: Chiefs are paying Mahomes $47M, Frank Clark $30M, Chris Jones $28M, Joe Thuney $22M. After that they only have 4 guys above $5M. Bills on the other hand have Josh at $40M, Diggs at $20M. But have 13 guys at $5M. That is 15 guys at the $5M and above range vs only 8 for the Chiefs. Bills are paying $5-10M+ for guys like T Johnson, Oliver, Jones, Settle, Bates, Hines, etc. Then not $5M but $3M for guys like Neal, McK. Meanwhile KC is getting a lot of production from guys under $2M like Toney, Pacheco, Gay, Bolton, Humphrey, Moore, Cook, Gray, Smith, Watson and more. The cap issues are self inflicted. We overpay for guys the coaches like and dont have the contribution from low cost draft picks.

Cowboys looking for an OC - part ways with Moore
ngbills replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
#2 despite Dorsey in my opinion. You had Josh Allen and a defense that played well much of the season. That is a recipe for good offensive stats. But when you watch the games you could see the inconsistency, lack of creativity and just a lot of questions. -

1 year vs 4 years. Dorsey inherited a top 5 offense that got worse as the season went on. Moore inherited an inconsistent offense that became a top 5 offense. Allen or Dorsey? Clearly a downward trend: -

Has more experience. Basically has a top 10 offense every year with a less talented QB. 9 out of 10 teams would be hiring Moore over Dorsey for an open job. -

Pacheco - 5 catches for 59. Had 13 all year.
