If the board fell this way I would make one pick and trade down with the other. If we can't get up for a quarterback, it makes sense to either grab two immediate starters, or grab one player and trade down to gather more draft currency. Though I do like Payne and Jackson. My defense of DJ is that he thinks those teams will fill the QB position is free agency. Whoever gets guys like Cousins, Bridgewater, McCarron, maybe even Bradford, do not have to absolutely draft a QB. They still could, but they don't have to. Those guys are in their prime and going to require a significant commitment.

While I do think Beane will find a way to get up to draft Rosen or Darnold, I do agree with you. Aside from probably Rosen, none of these guys should start this year. No one can really argue that Jackson doesn't have the most upside here. When I'm drafting a young guy to develop, he better be clearly better than Nate Peterman. I don't see that with Rudolph or Falk. Though I do like Falk and I see some Michigan Tom Brady in him. Again, not saying he is going to be Brady, but I like some of his traits. You have to move the needle, and to me, guys like Rudolph, Falk, Ferguson, White just don't move the needle all that much. Are they worth a 4th round Peterman-Cardale Jones flyer? Yes. Does it mean the QB conundrum is solved? No way. Jackson has a chance to be Michael Vick, or RG3. But he has some unbelievable athletic ability and I think he goes late one, early 2. I think this regime is only going to draft a Darnold, Rosen, Allen. Otherwise, I think they will pass on the quarterbacks this year. So I kind of feel it is trade up or bust. This franchise has really never drafted a high upside top prospect quarterback since Kelly. With the draft currency we have, the time is now to get that guy. If no trade up is available, you trade down and gather picks to move up next year. You can't force it.

Titans Name Mike Vrabel New HC
MrEpsYtown replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It really depends on who he gets as his OC. Daboll would have made sense for him, but we beat them to it. Its all about Mariota for that team. Their defense was already good. -
Former Bills players and coaches in champions games...

Man he was terrible with his high school 3-4. -
Thanks I didn't realize he went back. I like him a lot.

I just don't think we are in a position to make him our starter. I think it makes a ton of sense for the Browns because Hue Jackson knows exactly what he is getting. To put the franchise in this guys hands just doesn't make sense. You better truly believe in him. I think it's much more likely we see an Alex Smith trade and trade up for Darnold/Rosen. That way you get your bridge and high end future starter. AJ McCarron is just spinning wheels again.

What would it (realistically) take to get Alex Smith?
MrEpsYtown replied to NickelCity's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do not think it is a going to take a lot. I think Andy Reid is going to want to do Alex Smith right. He isn't going to trade him to the Browns. He also isn't going to trade Smith to the Broncos, an AFC West rival. I know that Brett Veach is their GM, but Reid pulls the strings. There is a ton of nepotism and insider trading in the NFL. KC will do us right because we did them right with the trade down last year and by gifting them Reggie Ragland. Brett Veach, Andy Reid, Sean McDermott all have close ties and all share the same agent. KC is looking for any excuse to trade Smith so they can move on to Mahomes. My guess is that this has already been sorted out and is going to happen in the near future. We just have to offer Kansas City something respectable so they don't look bad. -
Would the Browns be a trade partner at #4?
MrEpsYtown replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Cleveland takes Allen you want to trade up to three. Indy will be fielding a million phone calls. -
I agree with this sentiment. Some people were mentioning Petty as a late one, early 2 and he went in the fourth. I think Rudolph goes in the fourth. I just don't see it with him. I'm not sure what the appeal is here. I'm not drafting either of these guys in the first, but at least Jackson has some high end potential. Rudolph is big and put up impressive numbers...he's also slow, played in a simple offense, has shoddy footwork, and an ok arm. Like many have said, he is a bigger, slower Bryce Petty in my opinion. There are the top four that go in the first. I think someone sneaks up and grabs Jackson at the end of the first with the extra year option. I really think that Allen, Darnold, and Rosen are the only first rounders, but Mayfield will be over drafted and Jackson sneaks in the first round as well. Then I honestly think we wait awhile for Rudolph, Falk, Ferguson and such to go. Those guys are 3-4s for me. Just my opinion, but I'm having hard time with all the Rudolph love. I just don't get it. I actually like Drew Lock more than some of the second tier.

Available FA's who might be a fit with the BIlls
MrEpsYtown replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed not a fan of Adolphus at all. I just don't see it with him. It always looks like he is in slow motion. We need a 1 tech, a 3 tech and a MIKE. Those are pretty criticall spots in the middle of a front seven. I still like Kyle as a 3 tech, but I think he should be more of a part time player at this point. -
Kiper Mock Draft: Josh Allen #1
MrEpsYtown replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for this post and putting in the time and work. Good stuff. With the super high ceiling of Allen, the Browns picking him actually makes a ton of sense. He has the highest ceiling but is also probably the greatest risk. If you are Buffalo, you can't trade up for that guy. If you are Cleveland, you could go ahead and take that guy #1 because you also have #4. It's just not as risky when you have 2 picks in the top 5. Don't know if they do it, but they are in a position to take that risk. If Cleveland takes Allen #1, it pretty much guarantees Darnold and Rosen go next because someone will trade to #3. Cleveland then still gets the best position player in the draft, whether that is Barkley or someone else like Chubb. Makes sense actually. -
Great point! That where I am. Try like hell to get up for Rosen, Darnold. Otherwise let the board fall to us.

Agreed and it's unfortunate because to me, they already have Josh Allen on their roster. -

I think that's a good comp. I think he can be Cam or Jake Locker. I think people need to be willing to put some time in to develop him. Cleveland should take Rosen or Darnold. Now if I'm Cleveland and I am going to pick Allen, I probably trade down and stick with Kizer. They have similar traits. Kizer is just five months older and has one year in the NFL under his belt. I was really impressed with how he was playing near the end of the season, but that's probably just me. -

I think one thing that is changeable on this list is the attitude. Rosen needs an attitude check. Everything else is good. Those other guys have pretty major flaws and therefore have a better chance to bust. Darnold has a good chance to make it if you let him sit 2 years. Mayfield will never get bigger, Jackson probably can't win from the pocket, Allen needs a lot of work (needs to sit 2-3 years), and Rudolph is slow with a so so arm as well as the footwork issues (To me he's Josh Allen without physical talent). I'm willing to take a shot of Rosen, Darnold, or even Allen round 1. The rest of those guys are a no for me. I think Mayfield is a borderline first round pick, but Buffalo will not draft him. So to me its Rosen. Now if Rosen is a Ryan Leaf level douche then he's off the board, but if he's just a spoiled kid I'm good with it. -
I think the skipping it will hurt his stock more than anything. NFL evaluators will hold it against him and it's not like he is in a position to skip the Senior Bowl. I think he's a second day pick. If he went to the Senior Bowl and played like poo he becomes a third day pick. It he plays awesome he could move up into the late first. If he does nothing at all, he's probably a day two pick. He probably felt it wasn't worth the risk as he's probably a day 2 pick anyway.

MrEpsYtown replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm betting on Rosen. It's okay if he's a little bit of a jerk. In fact I think he needs a no nonsense type of guy like McDermott. For Rosen its going to be if he can sit for half a season, who the starter is, and who the OC and QB coaches are. Trade for Smith, trade up for Rosen and let him sit a year. To me the position is fixed. Don't know if it happens, but makes the most sense to me. -
Kiper Mock Draft: Josh Allen #1
MrEpsYtown replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do think Allen is a great fit for Cleveland, and I could see this happening. I think he is going to jump up after the Senior Bowl and Combine. People are already saying he could be #1. I think the combine and SB can push him in front of Rosen and Darnold. -
Highest passing percentages of all time in college: Colt Brennan, Colt McCoy, Kellen Moore, Graham Harrell. I think the 60% rule is a bit archaic, as are the Parcells rules. The game has changed so much to really follow these as guides in my opinion.
-
Good stuff. I believe Carson Palmer missed the 60% mark as wel.
-
Agreed it is a lazy comp. I will say that O'Brien and the Texans staff adjusted the offense to fit what Watson does well and it was similar to what he was doing in Clemson. NFL defenses catch up to that stuff, kind of like what we saw with Kap, RG3 etc. I'm not saying this will happen to Watson, but I want to see him have success in a true pro system before I anoint him.
-
These are the exact reasons this regime is not going to draft him. I'm not saying he's not going to be good. He might be. But it's not a risk this regime is going to be willing to make. The off-field stuff doesn't help either. McBeane have been ultra conservative in their thinking so far and Brandon Beane has said that the most important quality for a quarterback is to be able to win from inside the pocket. They aren't going to hitch their careers on this guy, or a guy like Jackson. I think they try to trade up for Darnold, Allen, Rosen. If they can't get one of those guys they develop Peterman and maybe draft a guy like White, Ferguson, or Falk later in the draft. If you aren't getting the elite prospect, you are really just getting another Peterman. Just remember though, it is extremely early in the process.

Kiper Mock Draft: Josh Allen #1
MrEpsYtown replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mean drafting the fifth best quarterback probably isn't doing the job either. We lost games because teams ran all over us, we had no sacks, and the QB stinks. So that's what needs to be fixed. -
If you aren't getting one of the top two I say pass. Unless you think you are getting a Derek Carr, who everyone undervalued.

Kiper Mock Draft: Josh Allen #1
MrEpsYtown replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There 100% would be a trade up to 3 if Darnold is still there. Someone would trade up. I wouldn't mind going Hurst and Hubbard. D-Line would mostly be fixed. Honestly, if we can't trade up, I make one pick at 21, then trade down.
