Parsons traded to Green Bay, given $188 million contract
HomeskillitMoorman replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
Totally disagree and think those are two way different scenarios. The Mets needed an elite hitter in the lineup. Teams in MLB rarely win championships without at least 1 elite hitter, many of them have 2. Soto hasn't had a typical Soto season but it's only year 1. There's also no salary cap in baseball so if you have an owner like Cohen who is willing to spend whatever, signing Soto doesn't come at the expense of sacrificing other parts of the team. Parsons has some weaknesses such as being able to be run at. Soto as an offensive player really doesn't have a weakness like that. I think if your D is solid against the run overall he does offer a top quality rusher but it's different than what you can do with Soto. You can walk him but that's still putting a baserunner on for good hitters behind him. Also Soto's still pretty young in baseball years and his skill set with a generational eye at the plate suggests he'll age well. With inflation and and higher salaries, that could also even not turn out to look like an overpay just like Bryce Harper's deal doesn't look like one anymore, in fact that looks like a really good deal now. Just totally different IMO. -
They're fine...I just don't know why they admitted that this took 2 years for them to design when it's pretty simplistic

Allen vs Mahomes, is this a controversial take?

I don't really even think it's Reid being so masterful...I think it's just that he actually adds something positive to his side of the ball -
You literally glossed over the last and most important part of the comment about the elite Qb's when I said "games that they have played great in".
-
That's where I am on it. It's only remotely watchable for me because it's the Bills. The early seasons were amazing.

The defense has let us down in the playoffs whether we've been relatively healthy or not, that's really just a tired excuse. We have not had a lack of success on offense in the playoffs, that's the whole point. The offense has done it's part and more, the defense hasn't and has wasted great offensive performances from our elite QB. What we've seen is not normal at all. Elite QB's don't historically consistently lose big playoff games that they play great in. This is a unique problem that we have had because we have had a historically bad defense in games where it matters most.
-
It hasn't worked though. His defense has let us down for 6 straight postseasons. I think that's part of the frustration here, it seems like he's out of ideas. Athleticism has been part of the problem.

I'm sure this will be the last we'll ever see of Dane Jackson

What we do with our D is kind of like when championship teams bring back guys who know how to get it done on their side of the ball when it matters most...except for the whole winning championships thing or our defense ever not being horrible when it matters most
-
Sure, I wouldn't put it past the NFL to attempt something like that. But I don't think teams would go along with it if they really thought Sanders was going to be really good. I could be wrong but it's hard to see GMs and coaches with jobs on the line pass up what they think is a good QB in round 3 or 4. Kaepernick had a couple years where he struggled which I think helped that collusion. But it's a fair point, they're not above doing it.
-
I agree, I can't see how when most of the teams who don't have a franchise QB have coaches on thin ice that may never get a head coaching job ever again would pass up him up if they thought he was a possible franchise QB or even just a good one because the NFL wanted to make an example out of him. Especially in like the 3rd or 4th round.
-
I hope so...but it's frustrating to know there's zero accountability if it's horrible in January once again
-
And if we lose 34-38 with Josh not being able to give us like a 3rd lead in the 4th quarter, it'll be "well, they got the ball in Josh's hands at the end of the game, what more can you ask for? The defense being terrible for 7 straight postseasons is irrelevant". It's just hard to understand how all this has become normalized here.

McDermott - "Still looking for that other safety"
HomeskillitMoorman replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm glad this is such a big question mark with a couple weeks left before the season starts -
I think your point about Shanahan is actually the one a lot of us are making: You don't have to have a great coach to win with a SB with an elite QB...you just have to have one that's not a total liability. Unfortunately we do have a HC who has been a total liability as evidenced by how awful his side of the ball and management has been in these big postseason games and how we consistently lose playoff games that our elite QB plays very well in, which is historically just not normal.
