  1. Yeah, yeah yeah. They said that about the popularity of a lot of sports, where is horse racing today, almost non-existent? That is close to be outlawed too with all the horse deaths this year. Horse racing used to be one of the biggest sports in the US. "Footba;ll" might be around but its popularity wil be down dramatically and the game for an "old school " guy like me it will be unwatchable.
  2. Dont believe it. MMA is like boxing, as i said effectively the fighter is a free agent ,you dont have billion dollar owners to sue or you dont have billion dollar schools/states. Football was almost outlawed by Teddy Roosevelt. It has a target on it. Once Schools become economically at risk you will see a mass exodus, the entire system will slowly collapse. I would bet anyone football will be outlawed at public schools universitis by some state within the next 5 years. And those legislators and SJWs that lead the charge will use the IDENTICAL arguments some of you are using it. Only "poor" people play as they "have no other real choice" but football. It will also come under increasingly racial scrutiny. 96% white owner, 80% AA players with the white commissioner having the powers of God. Yep, no problems with the optics there.
  3. Off the top of my head jousting, gladiators and pro tennis...hopefully this cornhole phenomenon will be next. I fail to grasp your point.
  4. The "game" as we know it will disappear, it wil take a while but the direction is obvious. You are already having schools drop their programs in HS, no doubt some state like NY will outlaw public funds for football, too dangerous. Lawyers will get involved, former high school and university players will start suing. The game will be legislated/sued to the point where the game will be unwatchable. It will be an evolutionary process, the game will continue to be "de-risked". As i wrote, it wil look like the pro bowl...to me unwatchable. Oh and by the way, how poplar is boxing now, it used to be one of the big three sports, Boxing Horse Racing and Baseball where the top three in the 30s. Boxing you dont have "teams" to sue, you are effectively;y free agents, that is why boxing still exists.
  5. Yep, this is where it is headed, the money will be gone BUT no more people getting CTE.
  6. Average salary in the US is $52.208, they make 16.5 times the natl average. Not bad.
  7. If I may, he is answering as an economist would, interjection of emotion here doesn't really advance the discussion in my opinion. If he is selfish, why do you care? As I said it aint gonna change a damn thing, aint gonna make Le Ron feel better if Maj Bobby "cares".
  8. I dont disagree with this. All these people complaining about it will get "their wish", the game wont be the same in the very near future and the kids that did want to risk it for the fame and money, wont be able to.
  9. No, go back and look at the history, if you recall that was the year the NFL "come clean", the risks were known (no not all the risks, we certainly dont know all the risks) , hell there were lawsuits about in 30? ytr s prior.
  10. If he said "i care" would that make you feel better? Would that make the players feel better?
  11. Heck I knew as a kid playing the issues, i was much more afraid of getting paralyzed.
  12. A lot of occupations involve risks, a lot of occupations we learn more and more about the risk every year. The NFL is no different. Was the knowledge out there that football could cause mental issues, yes it certainly was. Do we know more today, yes and well will know even more about the risk 10 years from now, just about the time the lawyers fees are too big and they outlaw football.
  13. June 2007 - The NFL holds a medical conference on concussions. August 14, 2007 - The NFL formalizes new concussion guidelines which include a telephone hotline to report when a player is being forced to play contrary to medical advice. Le Ron started playing in NFL 2007, the risks were known. Even when i was a kid everyone knew like a boxer you can end up with serious mental issues, the entire stereotype of the dumb football player.
  14. 3 years vested in the NFL the benefits blow away what my father got or a coal miner would get. plus they can for the next 50 years GET ANOTHER JOB. https://www.playsmartplaysafe.com/resource/nfl-benefits/
  15. Very sad. I dont think the NFL game as we currently know it wil be around in 20 years, wont be close. It will be like watching the pro bowls. Sooner than that States are going to start outlawing high school football, former college players will start suing schools. Harsh but true. One might be able to say in years past the NFL hide it for years but current players are more than aware of the real risks. My father worked at Bethlehem Steel for 30 years, in the blast furnace, got lung cancer with all the iron ore and crap in the air. There was no glorification of him working in 100 degree heat and outrageous compensation.
  16. Good point, I forgot about Clowney, I think they have handled it incredibly bad. Even if Clowney stays he cant be happy with how he was treated and now everyone knows they want to trade him.
  17. I think Bill O'Brien is in jeopardy. They have not properly addressed their O Line (except for a Rd one development tackle from Alabama State) , which was as bad if not worse than ours, and already lose their starting RB because 2 linemen on one play missed blocks to allow a NT free shot at Lamar Miller. Deshaun Watson will be running for his life again, terrible waste imo. Texans division is now theirs for the taking with the departure of Andrew Luck, they dont make the playoffs this year I think he is in trouble. They don't have a gm this year, be an opportunity for the new GM they hire (odds are it is Nick Caerio from the Pats) to select his/her own coach.
  18. LOL as in Cagney & Lacey, even though i never saw that show and i "know" it sucked
