  1. Denver would have gotten in over us. they had to lose week 17 if we won out.
  2. had we won out we still would not have made it.... we would have needed the broncos to lose to the raiders week 17. everything else played out the way it needed to though.
  3. dennison was at the helm of the offense in houston that saw foster and johnson routinely have big/huge seasons. so i'm not worried about him having trouble utilizing the talent he has on this team like electric company hints towards. not to mention what dneveu just stated.... two 1,000 yd receivers in denver last year with average qb play. dennison has a fairly solid track record. and as far as watkin goes? he obviously has a ton to prove but i would also argue from the small sample size of him being healthy that he's arguably one of the best at tracking down those deep ones. i also think its absurd to think he's all of a sudden lost the ability to make hay in the short passing game. it was a HUGE part of his game in college and part of what made him an elite prospect.
  4. have been saying all offseason this coach is gonna be the wild card that nobody has been talking about..... he coached up what was arguably a top 3 d-line over the last 2-3 years for the ram and if you watch any of his hard knock clips he will make you wanna get up off your couch and go to friggin war! if this guy can light a fire under 99's butt..... game on baby!!!!
  5. totally agree. i used the same philosophy with bell last year and it worked out great.... i took him 4th(he slipped becuz people were scared off) and then i just went about drafting rb's and wr's and just pulled the trigger on williams early. i wanna say it was the 6th round. worked out great. i would do the exact same thing in this situation.
  6. for me i wouldnt change where i would pick elliot. i'd just pick up whomever wins the battle between mcfadden and morris a bit earlier than expected as his handcuff.... either will fill in and get borderline top 10 production i think. DMC was a top 5 rusher in the league behind that line 2 years ago.
  7. couple of points. 17th in hurries is getting on the wrong side of average. i wouldnt call that "pretty decent". and 21st in pass D dvoa isnt bad? thats almost bottom ten in the league. i totally agree the porous run d was probably the bigger issue but the defense in general was a letdown and can anyone remember a meaningful sack? like one that changed a game or happened when we really needed one? i cant. i remember thinking all last year, while our sack numbers were solid, were any actually happening at big time moments? and i've said it once in here but i'll say it again. i think the wildcard here in all of this that hasnt been mentioned is the new DL coach mike waufle. the guy coached up what was arguably one of the best DL units in the nfl over the last couple years for the rams. they were a bad team and so that unit didnt get nearly the credit it has deserved over the last few years. his former players had nothing but good things to say about him. and if you havnt seen him already, do yourself a favor go ahead and youtube some clips of him from "hard knocks". a complete FIRE STARTER. i'm so excited to see how aggressive the line is this year. if the guy can get through to dareus.... LOOK OUT!
  8. i think the wildcard in all this is mike waufle, the new D-Line coach. the guy coached up arguably the best line in football over the last 3 or 4 years for the rams... watching re-runs of hard knocks on nfl network recently.... this dude about had me jumping off my couch and trying to spear my 15 month old daughter through her high chair! if this dude can light a similar fire under the guys up front, namely dareus, LOOK OUT!
  9. 100%.... i just believe one unit had much more to do with extending the drought than the other. regardless both points there are valid
  10. the thing is, the guy he's directing his posts towards really doesnt "get it" i dont think. but i agree there's no reason to keep repeating it. peoples minds are made up. personally, after reading his posts recently, i'd rather go beat my head on a brick wall for a couple hours rather than try and discuss anything with old school...... so i think the parties involved just need to move on.
  11. i'm with ya. im all for keeping the qb search rolling even though i think his play has been plenty to get into the tournament if he had a defense that showed up CONSISTENTLY. But my favorite is the "running back playing QB" line.... PUH-leasssee... somebody find me a halfback that could play a full season and finish with a top 10 qb rating. i get that some say it in jest and to get a rise, but i actually think some people believe it and anyone that says it looks like an idiot.
  12. ugh.... i noticed my first greys in the chin sweater last winter.... Come on, Mr. Beane! TICK TOCK TICK TOCK.
  13. i engaged in this crap for about a week once i found this board after BBMB, realized the handful of people arguing from either side look silly and so now i just graze through with occasional random input and just chuckle at most of this ridiculous dialogue.
  14. i feel like this should be common sense for people watching the team over the last 2 years and yet its lost on so many poor souls. if somebody came to a bills fan and said going into week 17 you will be the 6th best scoring offense and have a record low 9's TO's, EVERYONE should take that..... but the sad thing is you have guys around here that might legitimately say "well.... were those rushing or passing td's and how many passing yards does taylor have in this scenario?" LOL.
  15. well i'm in my early 30's now and i'm for all of the above in bolded! lol. depending on the game, weather, my mood, and workload for monday is.... you may find me trying to find a group of my buddies in several different lots with several different motives. haha. i will say most of my crazy days are done though. we have seasons and last year my wife and i really only "tied one on" twice. being 90 min away south of erie, PA and having to now pick the little ones up when we come home makes "hooting and hollering and smashing things" not the greatest option. LOL.
  16. oh, and in other slightly related news, Mcdermotts 2015 defense finished 18th on the list.
  17. was 19 and that was the first game i had ever attended. sad day for sure.
  18. espn insider has some interesting articles of top 30 offensive and defensive units from the last 30 years based on DVOA. The 90 offense came in at 22. and i was shocked to see the 04 defense all the way up at #4! http://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/story/_/page/Outsiders30Defenses/football-outsiders-30-best-nfl-defenses-30-years-2017 "The 2004 Bills were the best team of this century to miss the playoffs, ranking No. 1 in DVOA for both defense and special teams. They had one of the greatest defenses that almost nobody remembers. The Bills led the league with 39 takeaways and allowed a league-low 4.32 yards per play. They tied for third with 45 sacks even though Aaron Schobel (8.0) was the only player with more than five. In one absurd December game, they allowed Cleveland a grand total of 26 yards in a 37-7 victory. The Bills did this with a lineup that probably included no Hall of Famers, unless London Fletcher or Pat Williams sneaks in some day. The Bills would have entered the playoffs red-hot as long as they beat Pittsburgh in Week 17. The game was in Buffalo and the 14-1 Steelers were resting starters. The defense held Tommy Maddox to 120 passing yards but somehow let the Steelers hold onto the ball for nearly nine minutes with a 26-17 lead in the fourth quarter. The Steelers won 29-24, and the Bills missed their best chance at the postseason since the Music City Miracle" http://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/story/_/page/Outsiders30Offenses/football-outsiders-30-best-nfl-offenses-30-years-2017 "The Bills led the NFL in offensive DVOA for 1990, but they wouldn't make this list if their postseason performance weren't incorporated. They scored 44 points on the Miami Dolphins (eighth in defensive DVOA that year) and then demolished the Los Angeles Raiders (13th in defensive DVOA) 51-3. In the Super Bowl, of course, they scored only 19 points instead of 22" top defense was 91 eagles and top offense was 07 pats. no surprises there as both were just urneal. was surprised to see that 04 defense up there. so many people give them crap for facing a bad schedule but DVOA takes that all into account. impressive.
  19. hahaha. very good point. i can just blame that on the fact that back in 92 when i was 7, they had sweet friggin helmets..... who knew it'd develop into the sickness that is being a bills fan.
  20. my dad cant stand football and literally made me give him the remote and changed the channel anytime he walked into the living room.... so that was fun.....
  21. right. before i got done even reading the original post my mind immediately went to a nifty little screen that brown took to the house last year in the playoffs from about 40 or 50 out.
  22. exactly... its lost on me why they opened up that part of his game. it was huge for him in college.
  23. i've seen plenty of screens to wr's work in the nfl..... its silly to think its something in his game they shouldnt start utilizing.
