Interesting that Gabe was part of the recruiting dinner. Makes me believe he’s in the long term plans of this team.
-
He’s still very good, but not a dominant game to game EDGE, I think we can all admit that .. but he’s clutch af and we saw that in the KC game. Late in game, up by a score, and we need a stop, chances are Von comes through. He has the ability to flip a switch that few in the NFL have. That’s what we lost. Have to hope the collective can give us that moving forward.

Worst case scenario would be doing what most teams do and trading away picks for the right to pay a player like Von Miller. That’s when you get in trouble. It’s not ideal, but I’m not overly concerned because he will be back next year, I’m certainly not betting against Von and we have our full compliment of picks to continue building this team. We signed him for his play on the field and his mentality for our culture. Let’s hope the latter still translates and he can help coach up the young guys who will need to pick up their game this postseason.
-
He’ll be back for the back half/back quarter of the season and the playoffs. We still have all our draft picks. Please explain how we will “feel this one next year”… Not much changes aside from not having Von for potentially 10-12 games.

Sounds like people knew that knee was yolked up after surgery and was quote “a ticking time bomb” last year. I can’t even imagine playing on that and knowing your knee could very well go at any moment. He showed enough, imo, to warrant my interest if I’m Buffalo as him being my WR2 for a year or two, and if he can help in the playoffs this year… even better. It sounds like his knee is in a much better place (surgery/recovery) than last year. I do get the trepidation though. I’m certainly not thinking we’re going north of 10-15M per year. I’m under the assumption the gamble is to get an elite WR2 at a bargain.

People can be annoyed at OBJ for making this a circus, if you think he did that … I don’t. He went to visit the Giants. Low key. He went to visit the Bills. Low key. He went to visit the Cowboys. They paraded him around like an escort and then proceeded to leak medical info and trash him after he left.

Understand why the FO did what they were forced to do, but what an awful (and predictable) circumstance. I’d be shocked if Araiza is able to get his career back. Excited to hear all the WGR personalities and Bills podcasters who smoked an Araiza pack for clout address this development…. Suspect I’ll be waiting a while.

Im starting to think the Bills want him for ‘23 and getting him for the playoffs and on a (likely) team friendly deal is the bonus due to the gamble.
-
This is where I’m at, and wonder (if we sign obj) if part of it isn’t truly because they want him here next year. We obviously know this coaching staff is slow as molasses in integrating rookies. Allows them to draft a WR high to be WR3 and eliminates the decision of do we pay Gabe or let him walk for nothing after the season. Given Josh Allen’s contract hitting next year, we’re starting to get to the point where questions need to be asked about moving guys a year early for draft picks rather than playing out their final year and leaving for nothing. Love Gabe’s big play ability, but he would seem to be a prime candidate after the season to be moved if OBJ is in the fold.

Question for anyone in the know.. Given Von seems like a physical freak that loves football: If Von truly does want to try an play out the six year deal, should both sides agree on it after the guaranteed money is done - would an ACL surgery like he just had, followed by a presumed calendar year off be better for his long term prospects than say, shaving off some of the meniscus if they had to clean it up to come back this year?
-
Joe Marino had an interesting question posed to him on Locked On Bills about trading Gabe Davis for a 2 if we sign OBJ. Not gonna lie.. Diggs/OBJ & McKenzie/Shakir heading into the draft with a 1, 2, 2 & 3 in the Top 100 picks looks enticing. Especially with OBJ a full season removed from injury/recovery and likely on a team friendly contract for a high end WR2.
-
Had this same thought .. wondering if Von’s injury affects their thought process regarding OBJ. If I had to guess, they likely operate under the view that you can’t extrapolate what happens to one player against all the work & evaluation you’ve done on another. Id imagine they view OBJ as his own person, contract, view on what he can do for the team. Not potentially “ACL Guy #3”.

(OBJ enters the chat) Cap space of course is an issue, but the fact is Beane hasn’t made a big “picks for player” move since Diggs. That’s when you can get burned. We brought in Von for the ‘22, ‘23 and ‘24 playoffs. We won’t see him in ‘22. It is what it is. Nothing we can do about it. Regarding cap space/team building.. he’s going to miss (I’d assume) most of next year. Beane seems to think he won’t. We’ll see… Anyway you slice it, they’re going to be careful and he’s a 20M per year piece that may miss most of the ‘23 regular season. Luckily we enter the off-season with all of our main picks to continue building the team with affordable contracts. What we didn’t do is trade away a 1st or a 2nd and 3rd for the right to also pay him 20M per year. There are gambles you make that don’t work out and there are gambles you make that can bleed into future seasons. Beane making cap space gambles only hampers us so much.. it doesn’t kill our future team building.

Another Dallas player had a similar annoyed-ish response when asked about OBJ earlier as well. Reading the tea leaves, it sounds like they know he’s not going there, but can’t elaborate out of respect for OBJ, and are completely sick of talking about it.
-
Von posted an upbeat, positive video about being back next year. Beane said he expects him back for most of next year. Also will be back with team this year off the field and rehab in Buffalo. Obviously we can conclude … injury settlement.
-
So, your off-season wish list is to pay an aging Safety and draft a RB in RD1?
-
-
I agree, but we also need to acknowledge that our FO is able to do this because of the Pegula’s willingness to spend up front. We don’t give them enough credit at times.
-
Von video they just played on NFLN sure sounds like he's coming back next year. Side note: He is so inspirational man.. even from the hospital, knowing he won't play this year, he's got me hype.
-
Worst case scenario - he retires and we work out an injury settlement. Won't hurt us a ton. As long as he comes back, we're basically without a 20M pass rusher for (potentially) 80-90% of the regular season next year.
-
I'd push back heavy on this. Hyde/Poyer > Poyer/Hamlin ADV '21 Tre/Elam/Rhodes/Johnson/Jackson > Jackson/Wallace/Johnson etc ADV '22 Edmunds/Milano > Edmunds/Milano ADV '22 (same players.... different Edmunds) Ed/Jones/Settle/Phillips > Ed/Harry/Star etc ADV '22 Jerry/Mario/Rousseau/AJ/Boogie > Shaq/Rousseau/AJ/Boogie ADV '21 I'm taking our defense, as is, over last years every time. We've just taken another hit to what could've been one of the best defenses in a decade.
-
For the doomers... this is why you try to build teams without trading away a ton of draft picks. While this is incredibly frustrating, this why we're not screwed moving forward in paying a huge chunk of cap space to a major piece that won't be back until potentially Christmas of next year. DL is loaded with high round talent and we have all our main picks next year to infuse young talent onto a roster with limited cap space.
-
They'll likely slow play Von's recovery even more than Tre's due to age. So we'll likely have him for Playoffs 2023 and all of 2024. After that we're basically out of the contract. RE: Team set up. Rousseau, Ed, Settle, Daquan, AJ and Boogie are all on the roster next year. Is it ideal... nope.. Is it the end of the world... also, nope. Going to need the young guys to step up because that's who we've got until this time next year.
