Hines elite returning ability shined vs Browns
SCBills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Do not care what he did at Georgia. I live in Georgia.. I’ve seen him play quite a bit. He’ll be two years removed from that next year. Do we think rookies never evolve? We’re likely not keeping both Singletary and Hines. It would be criminal to draft one early, again.. unless somehow Bijan Robinson drops to us. Cook is the one guy we know will be here, and he looks just fine running inside and outside. Put some muscle on him over the summer and have him practice pass pro. I don’t really get what the problem is. If people want Singletary/Cook again next year.. fine. I’d rather have Cook/Hines. -
Hines elite returning ability shined vs Browns
SCBills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
He looks to be running just fine between the tackles, and that’s before an off-season S&C program. Cook and Hines are perfect backs for our offense. Hardly anyone has a bell cow anymore, let alone teams like the Bills, Chiefs, Dolphins etc. -
Hodgins was never the answer. IMO. The draft board fell horribly for us, in terms of WR.. but if Jake Kumerow is outside WR3 on a pass heavy team, that’s a problem. We had issues coming into the season, only exacerbated by the non-production from the slot position thus far.

Hines elite returning ability shined vs Browns

I honestly don’t know if we’re capable of running a screen. They just end up with Allen chucking it into the dirt as the play looks like a dumpster fire. -
Not really sure how Dallas is involved, given this sounds like a multi-year, legit money contract.

McKenzie's Place in the Offense Going Forward
SCBills replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cole Beasley in 2022 is likely not the answer. He’s a small receiver and wore down last year. That being said. He is literally the second most important player that Josh Allen has ever relied on in the NFL. They were, by all accounts, very close .. and Josh Allen’s development had Cole Beasley as his safety valve since his second year in the league. I think we all underestimated the loss of Cole. Now, what do we do? If it were me, the answer is two-fold. 1) Knox, one of Allen’s closest friends.. similar to the Beasley relationship, becomes the safety valve like we saw against Cleveland. No reason he shouldn’t have the role we saw on Sunday in this offense with only Diggs and Davis demanding receiving targets. 2) Flip Hines and McKenzie in the Offense. Use Hines as the gadget/slot move around piece. Bring in McKenzie for jet sweep motion and red zone packages. -
Definitely crossed my mind when we got to the red zone in the Vikings OT, with a chance to get to “and goal” but instead tried throwing lasers into the end zone from 15-20 yards out.
-
Given teams are playing us to take away wow plays, if we stop turning it over and get better in the red zone … this offense will methodically score 40 ppg. *If Allen is willing to patient. Then, at some point, teams will come out of that defense. Then… fireworks. It’s up to Allen really. For the issues we may have, if the main pieces stay healthy (knock on wood), Allen’s physical traits are the only thing in the NFL on par with Reid/Mahomes genius.

Tre'Davious White - when will he be ready?
SCBills replied to Deadstroke's topic in The Stadium Wall
As frustrating as it is, and we’re running out of games … I’d hope the team/White are on the same page with the hope of him being a full go against Miami. Misses this week. Limited snaps, or maybe out again, against the Pats. Then we have a mini-bye. Get him snaps at home against the Jets. If he’s still out at that point, I think there’s a serious issue. Then full go against Miami, and into the final stretch. -
Hines elite returning ability shined vs Browns
SCBills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the plan should be Cook as lead back in ‘23 after an off-season of S&C and pass pro training. Then get with Hines and re-work that contract. Cook/Hines with a Duke Johnson type and mid/late round rookie to round out the room. -
It does seem like they are constantly finding reasons to not play guys. It’s weird. Although, I’m sure he’s not going to come out and say “yes, he’s going to be more involved” so the Lions can prepare for that.
-
If I’m Dorsey, I simplify things and stop trying to force pieces that aren’t working. We’ve played 10 games. Settle on personnel sets. Singletary/Cook in the backfield. Ideally getting towards a 50/50 split. Cook warrants that, at least. Diggs & Davis outside. If the staff wants Shakir to be rookie year Gabe Davis and rotate in/back up all WR positions, fine. Not ideal, but we have literally no depth, so I get it. If McKenzie isn’t working. Give that role to Hines. He literally can’t be less effective than what we’re currently getting from the slot. Jet motion, line up in the backfield, line up in the slot. More Knox, especially in the safety valve, chain mover role. Gilliam, Morris and Hart all used in heavier sets. Basically… what id love to see starting on Thursday…. More Knox. More Cook. Hines over McKenzie.
-
As good as Singletary looks lately.. I’m ready for James Cook to be the lead back. Would love to see him and Knox continue to be a bigger focus moving forward. Especially after them both having strong games on Sunday. It likely won’t happen, re: Cook, because our staff is loyal to a fault at times .. but he looks explosive, capable of running between the tackles and has a knack of falling forward for 2-3 yards when there isn’t anything there. It’s not even really a knock on Singletary.. I just think, given how teams are playing us, along with our own internal issues, we need explosiveness in other areas. Easiest way to find that is by handing/pitching it directly to Cook & Hines.

Don’t disagree with this at all. Why McKenzie doesn’t run pre-snap motion or shallow crossers is beyond me. Watching KC’s offense, then ours, feels like they’re in advanced learning and we’re stuck in remedial classes.

On MNF, there was a play where McCoy threw it to where the slot receiver was supposed to sit down in the zone on 4th and a couple yards. The WR ran the normal route instead of breaking it off. Pass fell incomplete with only the defender having a chance at it. Judging by some of the breakdowns of his play I’ve heard by the podcast guys, I don’t think Josh trusts McKenzie to know what to do on plays where the WR is supposed to read the defense in determining the route progression called. … nor does it seem McKenzie gives him any reason to.

No, it hasn’t been mentioned. What is this you say about a torn ACL!?.. That changes everything.

I think our OL is ok. Truth is, most teams don’t have strong OL’s. Chiefs spent, Chargers spent, Bengals spent … are there lines any better than ours? I think James Cook is legit, and it’s about time the staff started using him. Singletary is solid. We traded for Hines. It’s up to Dorsey to use them correctly, but that’s a talented backfield. Knox is much better than this offense has given him credit for. Let’s hope yesterday was a start. WR’s… swing and a miss. Beane bet on Davis to become a high level 2, McKenzie to be a contributor and Crowder to be a rotational slot / slot insurance. 0 for 3 there, at least so far. Nevermind the fact we came into the season short handed at the position with no outside WR3 in a pass heavy offense. Just bizarre asset allocation with this unit.

Tre'Davious White - when will he be ready?
SCBills replied to Deadstroke's topic in The Stadium Wall
Terry Pegula definitely paying record amounts in cash over cap so we can be tied with 3 other teams chasing KC…. Again. If Tre wants to wait, that’s fine by me, but I absolutely understand the frustration. We have a decimated defense, guys playing through injuries and a guy that flirted with opting out is now mysteriously not playing. Not shocking how this has evolved amongst the fanbase (and some plugged in media) as this drags on. -
People can defend Beane all they want, and he’s been great, but when you get to Week 12, are a passing team and have four WR’s, of which only two are reliable.. there is a problem with roster construction. Blame injuries if you want, but one guy is a special teams player and the other is a slot who we signed to a small contract due to his injury history.
-
If KC is the benchmark.. the team we need to get past.. It's all so gross to watch Mahomes have: Kelce, MVS, Juju, Moore, Toney, Hardman and Watson Josh has: Diggs, Davis, Knox... and then, literally, two playable WR's left active in McKenzie and Shakir For a Super Bowl contender, this is a five alarm fire and absolutely absurd to have only three reliable targets (and I use that term loosely outside Diggs)
-
He’s playing himself out of a 20M+ per year pay day, but if I’m the Bills, I offer him an extension after the season, lock it down at a reasonable number and then draft a WR early. His big play ability will always be a huge piece of this offense, but we’re seeing that he’s not WR1 potential.
-
The Bernard pick was puzzling when we did it, and even more-so now. I don’t know what he does.. or projects to do, on this defense. Id be shocked if we don’t lock down Edmunds now, and Bernard isn’t an Edmunds replacement anyway… so what is he? Milano’s backup for 4 years? That’s what we used a 3rd round pick on when we clearly could’ve used OL or WR help?

Tre'Davious White - when will he be ready?
SCBills replied to Deadstroke's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm fine with this. We wouldn't be having this level of frustration if there weren't players in and out of the lineup on a week to week basis with a decimated secondary on this defense, but that shouldn't make us rush Tre White back before he's ready. After all, we need him right for the playoffs more than anything. That said.. After his opt-out flirtation, and now this, I'm quite ok if the Bills moved him for decent pick(s) this off-season. Hopefully he helps us win a Super Bowl and we can go about rebuilding the next iteration of this secondary around Taron Johnson and Kaiir Elam after the season. I doubt we move him, but I also think some tough decisions need to be made after this season.. i.e. what KC went through this past off-season. -
Whether this is true or not, I have no clue, but at least he has the potential of getting better. McKenzie is what he is, and that's quite clearly not a starting slot WR in this league. He's a WR5/Gadget and he's occupying a space previously held by Cole Beasley aka the second most important offensive skill player of Josh Allen's career thus far.
