Playoff Solutions Assuming they don’t replay the Bengals game.
BigDingus replied to Locomark's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ooooh, I see. I thought you meant the options were: A) Homefield advantage throughout all 3 games of the post-season but give the Bills a BYE B) Get a BYE, but games against Bills/Bengals becomes neutral site Now it makes more sense. -

Wouldn't you always take the BYE in that situation though? Knowing that if you get paired against the Bills it'd be played at a neutral site anyway, why not just take the BYE, get a free home game in round 2, then play round 3 at a neutral site (given you win round 2)? -

I dunno, they were both great players imo. Reggie Wayne (14 seasons): 14,345 yards (#10) / 1,070 receptions (#10) / 82 TD's (#28) / 1 x First-Team All-Pro / 6 x Pro Bowler Andre Johnson (14 seasons): 14,185 yards (#11) / 1,062 receptions (#11) / 70 TD's (#49) / 2 x First-Team All-Pro / 7 x Pro Bowler You have to remember though, Reggie Wayne had Peyton Manning & Andrew Luck throwing to him his whole career. Andre Johnson had: 1. David Carr 2. Sage Rosenfels 3. Matt Schaub 4. T.J. Yates 5. Case Keenum 6. Ryan Fitzpatrick 7. Old Matt Hassellbeck (Colts) 8. About-to-Retire Andrew Luck (7 games before getting injured) 9. Marcus Mariota And that's only counting guys who started significant number of games, not all the backups like Matt Leinart, Ryan Mallet, Tom Savage, etc... I feel like Andre Johnson could've destroyed so many records if he played on good teams with consistent QB play. One of those "what if?" guys like Eric Moulds. -
I must be growing soft, but Pats fans lately have been really supportive of the Bills (and I'm not even talking about the Damar situation). Even discussing Lamar, I saw a lot of Pats fans responding on Twitter that they'd love to see Bills win a SB just to see Hamlin holding a Lombardi Trophy. Got me right in the feels! Coupled with hearing so many of them praise Josh & say they wish he was their QB, I definitely don't hate them as much as I used to 😆

I didn't realize journalists were reporting the NFL were taking that into consideration! I honestly think that'd be the least bad option out of all the bad options. Because out of all options, at least this one has the side benefit of A) making another fanbase happy & B) making the NFL more money by holding another game -

Yeah, I honestly wasn't paying attention lol. Just kinda scrolling through the names that stuck out to me. But hey, they can all get in at some point! -
What if the Bills refuse to play the Patriots?
BigDingus replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
So as long as kids also play a game, it's automatically "a game for kids" or "a kid's game?" Basically that makes any and all games "games for kids." Whether it's soccer or chess or video games, kids also play those, so guess they're all kid games! -

Joe Thomas & Jared Allen definitely should get in, so should Andre Johnson & Reggie Wayne (they're #11 & #10 all time in receiving yards). Willis & Revis were best at their positions for a long time too. I don't really have strong opinions about the other ones. For some reason I already assumed Darren Woodson would be in the HOF, he was a 1st Team All Pro on a SB winning dynasty after all. -
Sean McDermott should be Coach of the Year
BigDingus replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know he won't win it, but I'd give it to Dan Campbell. That dude is dragging that team out of "poverty franchise" status & into the playoffs. Those players always play their butts off for him, regardless of their record. Dude even inspire ME, just chilling on my a** watching him online 😆 -

BigDingus replied to Locomark's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's still a better option than most. If the Bills win, they end up getting 2 weeks heading into the Divisional round anyway. Sure, it's an inconvenience if they lose, but let's be real, the Bengals & the Bills are the only teams that reasonably should be inconvenienced by it. The minute the game was cancelled, the only teams that would ever have to makeup a game would be these 2. -
I think your title question has merit, but the contents of your post completely miss the mark. There was nothing wrong with the Hamlin hit (a hit HE delivered). No rule change can prevent that. However, there will likely be rules added to assist in the scenario we find ourselves in now - what to do in the case of a suspended/cancelled game. There are guidelines in place now, but they're very vague & basically just amount to "commish will figure it out!" I believe far more wording will be put into place to outline an orderly solution to the issue. Instead of fans & the media throwing out options & guessing what will happen, the NFL & NFLPA will set a strict outline to follow, with perhaps even an additional BYE be agreed to, in the case that games need to be rescheduled.

Curious how the refs will call games this week.
BigDingus replied to AuntieEm's topic in The Stadium Wall
If anything, it might result in players being a bit less likely to try & kill each other when delivering hits... Not saying they won't still hit insanely hard, but perhaps more mindful of the usual headhunting stuff. The officials won't call things any different though -
Peterman starting for the bears this Sunday
BigDingus replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
Poor guy, he just can't ever catch a break can he? Seriously, this dude has had some of the worst luck I've seen. This Bears team is TERRIBLE! 28th in yards per game 32nd in passing yards per game Oh, and throw a terrible O-line into the mix... I'm sure he definitely won't throw any INT's 😅 -
Bengals Board Posts - http://thebengalsboard.com/Thread-What-would-you-like-to-happen : 1. "It's fine by me to just declare the game a no-contest, with no winners, no ties, and don't replay. Players and fans of other teams impacted would understand. The worst scenario for me is a decision that benefits the Bengals because that would cast the Bengals as villains from now until the end of the NFL. I'd rather the Bengals take the high road, even offer to take a decision hurts the Bengals. It was the Bengals field, the Bengals were hosts, so even offer to take a loss if they want." 2. "If I'm the Bengals, I'd offer the Bills the W just as a nice gesture. It's relatively meaningless to them right now, but it would just show support. Whether they'd accept it or not, calling the game for them would just be a nice thing to do, and would be well regarded for a long time." 3. "I am fine with anything other than accepting a loss. Cincinnati did absolutely nothing wrong. You can’t punish Cincinnati for something out of their control." 4. "IMO the Bills should be given the option to play it or forfeit. There should be no tie or "no contest". 5. "The moment the Bengals agreed to leave the field and then the game altogether, they forfeited any sensible capacity to demand a forfeit. Ridiculous." 6. "To some extent there is time to resume the game, at the same point, because the two weeks break before the Super Bowl can always become a one-week break. Two weeks always seems too much anyway. They can push the playoffs back a week. Playoff teams all get a week extra. I'm sure you can't push the Super Bowl back, but playoff games surely can, because you never know whether a team would be playing anyway." 7. "What if Bills are still too overcome with grief and sadness to play New England, what does the God man do then ? Should the Bills' feelings dictate how the season plays out? Should they just be awarded the Lombardi and the lague just calls it quits til next season?" 8. "Probably won’t happen, but: Scratch this game entirely. If the Bengals and Bills meet in the playoffs, play it at a neutral site (Detroit would be very fair). I realize Buffalo would have the better record, but yesterday’s game was still for the 2-seed at least." 9. "My biggest fear at this point is Buffalo trying to use this whole situation to their advantage. There is more incentive for them to NOT PLAY this game and take a tie rather than to play it (down 7-3 and the Bengals threatening to score again) to try and claim the 1 seed. If they lobby for a tie, it gives them the two seed, gives them one less game for their guys to get hurt, and eliminates the possibility of slipping to a 3 seed. Given how the game was going and the score, I think they'd be more than happy hanging on to the 2 seed rather than chancing it. I hope I am wrong, but a tie really ***** over the Bengals here." 10. "Absolutely nothing from the Bills owners, coaching staff or fans indicates they would try to use this to their advantage. GTFO with that sh" (response to above post) Chiefs Board Posts https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=346826 : 1. "I hope our fanbase doesn't come out being jerks about it, whatever happens. I can't imagine we would, but there are always a few exceptions. At this point if they just simply cancel the game and go from there, who cares?" 2. "As far as I am concerned both teams decided last night to forfeit the game." 3. *Here's a little back & forth* - Guy 1: "It's an unfair advantage to allow them to choose to play a game in the next few days or next week that they chose not to continue last night because someone nearly died on the field? Yeah, that seems like a solid and persuasive argument." Guy 2: "Yes because of playoff implications, it IS an unfair advantage. We had a player off himself in front of our COACH and GM and we played two days later, as scheduled. "Nearly Died" We have seen players become PERMANENTLY PARALYZED and they continued to play. The unfair advantage is some teams would be RESTING players next week. Now this throws a wrench into the entire seeding issue." Guy 1: "Do you think the Chiefs would've played the game if Belcher had killed himself in the parking lot immediately before the game? Answer: no. We now know that he didn't die on the field. But at the time, none of those players had any idea if he'd make it to the hospital or even off the field alive. Not the same as a guy being taken away by an ambulance on a stretcher with fear of a potential paralyzing injury." 4. "America is so weak." 5. "I'd say leave it up to the Bills. If they're not up for it within the next few days, they need to forfeit." 6. "This is going to go down with the Music City Miracle and Wide Right in Bills lore." 7. "if they cant / dont want to play it, then they should just concede the L and move on." 8. "The right call is whatever is best for the teams involved. The right call has nothing to do with inconveniences or money lost by the fans." 9. "If they call the game, I think it needs to be a Bills loss and Bengals win. Bengals were winning and playing really well. It wasn’t one of their players who went down, so why punish them?" 10. "I have to say, I've never seen more virtue signaling in my life. Everybody is trying to show everybody how morally superior they are on this subject. People on fantasy football Reddit are acting like people can't even ask questions about how to proceed in their leagues." 11. "This year in lieu of a superbowl trophy every team will get a participation trophy as well. **** that. Take a L for a forfeit, take a tie if Cinci agrees (and I doubt they will), or play the game. I'm not trying to sound callous here and I understand they saw some scary *****, but come on man. It sounds an awful lot like someone is trying to use that ***** for their advantage." ************************************************** So yeah... majority of Bengals fans seem as confused/concerned as we are. There were a handful of dumb posts, but most of them echoed our sentiments. Chiefs fans on the other hand, much more of a mixed bag. There were plenty of posts voicing concern, but also a MUCH greater % of people being callous, talking s*** or just whining. It's clear they've got no interest in any solution that involves them.

Playoff Solutions Assuming they don’t replay the Bengals game.
BigDingus replied to Locomark's topic in The Stadium Wall
I suppose so, but that just adds more teams you're screwing over into the mix. Your way makes more sense for parity purposes, but it also complicates things in a negative way for an additional team. Having one AFC team play one additional post season game isn't a huge deal, especially when the #1 seed is only in that position due to the #2/#3 squads missing an entire game from the schedule. Both #2/#3 teams have a head-to-head win over #1, so it'd be harder for them to cry foul about not getting their BYE when they did not control their own destiny going into last night (unlike the current #2 seed). -

A weird option that would make the NFL more money & even make another fanbase happy - allow a theoretical 8th seed for the AFC, no team gets a BYE, and all 8 teams square off WC weekend. Sure, the Chiefs lose their BYE, but they just as easily could've lost it to the Bengals or Bills depending on how the season played out anyway. All 3 teams are forfeiting their chance at a BYE, while also giving another fanbase a chance to participate in the post season. Plus, the NFL gets another game & more revenue from it. Obviously, this won't happen, but it at least screws over everyone equally & has a bit of upside for another team. -
Yes, but seeding itself is huge, & people on all sides will be weary because it again gives KC homefield throughout the postseason. It also has the side-benefit of guaranteeing Mahomes MVP. All the stats Burrow or Allen could've put up with an additional game (and we already saw a glimpse of what could've been a great offensive game) get thrown out the window too. I know this isn't crucial, but fans of all teams are going to raise an eyebrow seeing only the Chiefs ended up benefitting from this game. With the AFC playoffs again going through Arrowhead, Chiefs getting a BYE by default & Mahomes getting an uncontested MVP, it'll make fans from all around cry foul. The NFL is in a very tough position, and I doubt those outside of Buffalo or Cincy will be very reasonable.

It's possible to care about more than one thing... My grandfather recently passed away 2 weeks ago, but I still had take care of my house, feed my pets, pay my bills, and do dozens of other things that still mattered, even while prioritizing funeral & travel arrangements. No need to disparage people who aren't meeting your threshold for expected grief.

The league will come up with something. Problem is it happened on national TV during a game, so there's no simple solution. JJ Watt had to get his heart shocked back into rhythm, but it was off the field so the show went on. Players have been involved in life-altering accidents or even died during the course of a season, but not in front of TV cameras with the world watching. It's a different set of circumstances that requires a different set of solutions. I'd assume there'd be some creative compromise figured out aside from just declaring a no contest & moving on.

That just made me think there's a huge lack of color/diversity in MLB uniforms... The Orioles, Rays, Brewers & Astros versions looked pretty cool though.
