Observation #2 - settling for a field goal
1ManRaid replied to 42Knuck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know...you can just put two different thoughts about the same game into one thread, right? This is the definition of "every thought that floats through my stream of consciousness deserves its own thread". *edit* Also...LAMP -
Houston is 0-4 and Miami owns their 1st & 2nd round picks

Oh no. Please BoB, find your balls for a month or two please don't do us like this. -
Can someone explain why Browns catch wasn’t a TD?

Back to back weeks where the broadcast bring in the officiating expert who says the replay is clearly in our favor, but it still goes against us. Beane better have a sternly worded memo to the league tomorrow. -
Chargers were in a position to tie it up at the end of the game then rookie QB threw a rookie INT. Cowboys had first and goal to get back within 3 points when an INT ended that for me too. Bass missing the extra point cost me winning by 8. Shows my picks were good, but just wasn't meant to be.

It was going GREAT until the last 3 minutes of the Browns and Chargers games. Browns were up 3 and the Chargers were looking to tie it up. At least I'll profit $5 overall if the Browns hold out to win.

***** Browns and Chargers, you were supposed to be competitive and keep it close, not have three score leads at halftime...

I decided to do a big ol stupid bet at the last minute. Up here you have to pick a team to win by at least 4 or 8, or a "tie" which is a game decided by 3 or less. Chargers tie Buccs Browns tie Cowboys Bills beat Raiders by 8 Eagles tie 49ers Packers beat Falcons by 8 $5 bet pays $950. First two games are already promising, Chargers just took a pick 6 off Brady, and Browns are tied so far. Oh and my friend is giving me 2 to 1 odds for the Browns to beat the Cowboys in our private bet.

In a purely hypothetical crazy world? Maybe a couple key Pats players have "day to day" injuries and could use another day or two of rest. Or extra time for a new signing to clear the waiting period. Or a hundred other ways a schemer like Belicheat could put an extra day to good use. Not specifically saying being without Cam helps in any way, more theoretical conspiracies about how something like that could work to an advantage SOMEHOW.

Something sheer and fashionable to use as a face covering I'm sure, because standard masks are SO last season. If I was a professional athlete making millions (especially if I was a household name starting for a premiere team), I would be on a self imposed ZERO CONTACT WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD FOR THE LOVE OF ALL YOU FIND HOLY STAY AWAY FROM ME DON'T RUIN THIS FOR ME protocol outside of required team activities. Even when I'm at work there's a mask on and a bottle of sanitizer on my person at all times unless I'm in action on the field. But you know for Cam, divas gotta diva.

Isn't there like a 5 day waiting period on signing free agents, specifically to protect from that sort of thing? If they’re testing every day I'm sure that's long enough for a quarantined incoming signee to be sussed out. That makes me giggle thinking about it, but then I get sad because I know there are a LOT of really stupid professional athletes who would do something that dumb. Just look at the Raiders...

I'm pretty sure there is a waiting period on signing new players. Cuz, you know, Covid protocols? I'm 100% sure a virus screening is required procedure before letting any new player through your doors, like comon think about it for two seconds. Also can anyone save me 22 pages of scanning and tell me if anyone knows the circumstances around Newton getting it? I absolutely wouldn't be surprised to hear that he was out partying or something.
-
Meanwhile, Gruden says he is proud of how his team has handled protocols, right after 10 of his players attend an illegally crowded event with no Covid screening, no masks or social distancing, and shaking hands with the public. You'd think a guy who had the virus himself would be a bit more serious about it.

I'm most concerned about going forward later in the season when there aren't bye weeks to flex into. If a team who has already been through their bye week (naturally or by rescheduling) has a game the next week against a team that suddenly has an outbreak, what do they do? Will they be awarded the win by default or do they push back the playoffs a week and add a week 18 to flex in another reschedule? You'd either have to push the season back a week to give unaffected teams a second bye week, or have the top seeds have two weeks off through the wild card round.
