What stops the saints safety from just tackling the receiver before the ball gets there yesterday (besides his inability to tackle) if it’s a 15 yarder instead of spot?

Yup. Belichick would do it every game.

Does anyone remember when he had his players tackle our receivers a couple years back because Taylor was out of the pocket and apparently that's legal? I haven't really seen it since, but as far as I can remember that's still the rule, along with no roughing the QB outside of the pocket.

Any coach or front office guy that Marrone has worked with this year or in the past belongs on the tree...can't pick and choose which branches are real...they all grow from his roots.

That's not the way that works - at all. Not even a little bit. Coaches only get credit for guys they brought into the league or gave a first real chance to that stuck around for multiple years and learned their system.

  3. Mayfield is easily the best QB in the draft. I'll let the Browns do the Browns thing and draft Darnold. I could see Baker falling due to size. Hopefully the Bills snatch him up if they get the chance and we get our own "too small" version of Drew Brees/Russel Wilson

    Unfair??!!!!

    Anthony Lynn coached Tentative Tyrod

    Do some research

what instated I got from reading articles on the Chargers.

He was too protective in his game plan and actually unleashed Rivers

That is when the losing ended.

Well, I watched the games, so...

  5. You also have to take into consideration Washington's offensive regression, I think.

3 years and TT has not improved across the board with multiple coaches.

Anthony Lynn tried the same approach in LA and the Chargers started 0-4.

When he realized the Tyrod method did nothing t work and lol how well they performed afterwards!

See edit.   I omitted an important fact initially.

The chargers comparison is incredibly unfair the lost 3/4 of those games by field goals ont he last play of the game with scrubby kickers.

AFAIK he's still getting paid by the Pegulas, so I doubt he has much of a problem getting credit in these credit-permissive days

Oh, you meant for the playoffs.....how many players he brought in are even still on the team?   A lot of turnover.

McCoy, Hyde, Poyer, Taylor (good or bad) I'll flip a coin on this draft since it's likely McDermott had a ton of say, but also unlikely he had time to scout anyone.

What a poor outlook.  You are crediting Andy Dalton for us making the playoffs?  Yeah we wouldn't be here without that game.  We also wouldn't be here without McD putting the team in position to get that help.  2004 was the only other time in the drought this team was in that position in week 17.

Andy Dalton definitely gets the credit for a 9-7 team making the playoffs. That's not trashing the Bills it's just reality. We didn't control our own destiny. Dalton gave that to us. He's a bigger Buffalo hero than Taylor.

Mcvay inherited a loaded roster. So did marrone

Not to belabor the point, but you could have said the same of the Bills before they shipped off Watkins, Darby, and Dareus. This staff created the holes they had to fill, helped out by the previous staff's handling of Woods & Gillislee.

Goff looked like an early bust candidate before the season, and I think many would have taken Taylor over him. Looking back, not so much.

Reconsidering, I can't believe I left out Pederson. talent or not, it would be hard for him, or Belichick to not to walk away with the hardware. The last team to finish 9-7 or worse was Jimmy Johnson in 1990. Given that Belichick has won it 3 times in the Brady era, I don't think talent plays that much of a role. I Give McD no better odds than 5th. (Pederson, Belichick, McVay, Marrone, Zimmer/McDermott)

No way.  The Bills seemingly shed talent and had major roster upheaval.  The other teams didn't.

Regardless, I'll take it. This is the best day of my soon to be 31 year old life. I still want a lot of people on this team gone, and I think the Bengals deserve the lions share of the credit, but none of that matters. The curse is broken, and I don't have to live every day with that hanging over my head anymore. Being from Buffalo finally isn't strictly a punchline anymore and that feels great.

The score was 10-7 when the first fumble happened.  The score was 24-7 at the second fumble in the third quarter.  We would have had the ball on the Jets 34. We lost the game by 13 points.  Hence... if the two fumbles didn't happen we MAY have won the game.  It wasn't my point anyways.  My point was when something doesn't happen... you cant change history by saying if it did happen then Roman becomes awesome.

I know you're in your Tyrod hate mode so you have to post more Tyrod hate.

I'm not a Tyrod hater at all. I like him a lot (bought his jersey), just not as my starting QB anymore. I'm more than happy to blame it on how he was coached, but that's neither here nor there. He just isn't good enough and I'm more than happy to provide evidence why to anyone who disagrees. It doesn't seem you're in that camp though, so I'm not sure why this thread is still going.

If there was a world where taylor could stay here the rest of his career as a backup gadget player, I'd love that scenario, but it's not possible.

I'm not arguing against benching Taylor here.  I'm pretty excited about it.  I'm arguing that your expecting a complete turnaround for this pathetic defense because of it.  They might look better this week because the Chargers offense hasn't been anywhere near what the Saints offense is, but that doesn't change the fact that outside of turnovers this defense has been bad too.  Taylor has little to do with that.

Maybe not. What I can tell you is that it's a virtual guarantee Taylor had no chance to beat NE barring a career worst day from Brady. Now, who knows? I can talk myself into a scenario where we get a couple turnovers and Peterman has a big day.

He wasn't **** all season.  He was **** in 3 games.  Not good enough still.  Blaming defense on Tyrod Taylor is ludicrous.  They been getting their asses handed to them all season long. The only difference is they didn't get the turnovers the last two weeks.

The Bills are ranked 22nd in the league in offensive DVOA, leading the pack of the worst offenses in the league. That's simply not good enough. The good thing is McDermott finally sees it too.

Id expect them to be able to force a punt or two regardless of how bad an offense is.  Don't change your argument now.  I'm excited to see what Peterman can do and realize that Tyrod has issues... but to put the entire defensive failure, which is essentially what you did, on him is just unfair.

That's not what i did. I didn't bash Taylor for just last week at NO. I bashed him for 5 wins and 4 losses. It's probably a cold fact that we win last week with very few QBs and no other changes. That said, this Defense gifted Taylor 5 wins this year that he didn't do much of anything to claim for himself. I'll repeat it here: give me one of the top 20 QBs in this league and this team is 8-1. Taylor has been **** all season.

  14. Just now, Scott7975 said:

They are tired from being on the field all game long also because they can never get their own asses off of it.  They were in the top of the league the first 5 weeks because they didn't allow points.  What they did do was let the opponent drive all the way downfield and either get a turnover or force a field goal.  The difference the last two weeks is they didn't get turnovers and were pitiful in the redzone.

And that's not sustainable. This is a talent bereft defense. If you're expecting them to go out and shut down opposing teams running a cover 2 with a bunch of rookies and journeymen, you're dreaming. The best we can hope for is a D that forces an offense to take a lot of time to move the ball, and tackles well. An improved offense helps that.

To drastically improve your defense you need a bunch of new players, a new scheme and maybe a new coach. To get a drastically better offense/team you just need to throw a better guy under center. It's really that simple.

A good QB is NOT going to make better a defense that gives up 300 yards on the ground.

Better offense production rarely presents the opportunity for an opponent to accumulate that yardage. Facts are we possessed the ball 18 to 42 minutes for NO. If we built drives it would not have been possible for them to embarrass us the way they did.
