My main takeaways from the presser: - Bojorquez big time'd them. It will be interesting to see if any team pays him the money he seems to want. - It was interesting to hear that they regularly consult with Josh regarding offensive roster moves and additions. - Emmanuel Sanders is a guy they've been after for a while. It's clear now that they simply viewed him as an upgrade over Brown, period. - Both Beane and McDermott believe they already have the pieces in place to improve the run game. Mentioned practice reps and scheme as potential fixes. - Said they were "very content" with Wallace vs Jackson for the CB2 job, which might (or might not) rule out an early round pick being spent on a CB. - They wanted Andre Roberts back and simply couldn't afford to pay him what he sought - Beane is clearly irritated at the cap situation this year (but then, what GM isn't?) - They seem hesitant to do more restructuring of contracts this year, unlike many of the armchair GMs here and on Twitter. - They simply don't have much money to spend on big time free agents. Any remaining additions will likely be low cost, bargain bin variety. - They spoke in pretty vanilla terms about what they'd like to do at tight end and defensive end, which might be "Poker face" stuff. I think they want to add dynamic players at both spots.

Yep. "We weren't on the same page". Sounds like Bojo big-timed 'em.

Gotta be one of the best backup QBs in the league. 64% career completion percentage, 64 TDs to 37 INTs. Has had two seasons with QB Ratings above 94.0. I know people like to pick on him, and as a starter -- particularly one taken third overall -- I get it. But as a backup? Great signing.

Three thoughts: 1.) I beat Yolo to the punch for once! 2.) Could THIS be what Cynthia Frelund was talking about? 😆 3.) This thread should be fun.

Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
Logic replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The veteran tight end market is just about dried up, and we know that the Bills badly want a veteran tight end. Darren Fells is still out there, I suppose, but the dropoff from Ertz to Fells is significant, and Fells is quite a bit older. I do not think it's a draftee they want to add to the stable. They want a vet. Gotta get the Ertz deal done. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
Logic replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All the players you just listed would help, sure, but they’d all be rotational players at best. They also all have the POTENTIAL to be good players in the NFL. Meanwhile, Zach Ertz would be a full time starter, and we already KNOW he’s a good player in the NFL. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
Logic replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree that a 3rd is a steep price, but... I'm just curious who, with the 30th pick in the third round, is likely to improve the Bills more (and more instantly) than Zach Ertz. Moss, Singletary, Knox, Phillips. Those are our most recent third round picks. I dunno, man...I just don't know. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
Logic replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think he would, necessarily. I think they were going to do a presser today, regardless, to discuss the re-signings to date and answer questions from the media. The fact that the presser was pushed back an hour, though, has led people to speculate that it's because Beane and co are working on something behind the scenes -- like finalizing a trade. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
Logic replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hear you. I'm just saying that in my view, a 2022 3rd ISN'T too steep (and I realize I'm in the minority), because: 1.) I think Ertz would greatly improve the offense. He'd improve the run game, the passing game, and allow Knox to become more of an H-Back/Move TE. Two positional improvements for the price of one. 2.) Next Year's picks generally are considered one round lower. In other words, a 2022 3rd is equivalent to a 2021 4th. 3.) because I think Beane could recoup the third round pick easily by trading down in rounds 1 or 2 this year or next year. -

I don't want the Bills to have to spend a 3rd round pick for Ertz. That said, I'm not sure who could realistically be selected with the 30th pick in the 3rd round that would have as big (and instant) an impact on the Bills as Ertz would. Recent third round picks by the Bills: Harrison Phillips, Devin Singletary, Zach Moss, Dawson Knox. I think I'd be okay with a 2022 3rd. Beane could find a way to trade down in rounds 1 or 2 this year or next year and recoup the pick. -
How will the Bills defend against the Patriots 2 new TEs?
Logic replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Colts and Chiefs ate against the Bills defense for sure. In between those, though, they held Mark Andrews (an elite tight end having a great season) to 4 catches for 28 yards. My point is simply that I believe the Bills DO have the ability to limit opposing tight ends when healthy. Time will tell whether that belief is correct. I do not think that 2021 will be a repeat of 2020, in terms of defending TEs. -
Of all the iterations of Zero we’ve seen here, “let me explain how the cap works” Zero might be the worst Zero yet.

For the Deadheads here... I just listened to the second set suite from 3/24/73 at the Philadelphia Spectrum. He’s Gone>Truckin>Jam>Dark Star>Sing Me Back Home Hoooolllly cow. It was so stunning, so jaw dropping, so amazing, that I had to share it here. The He’s Gone is the first played since Pigpen passed away two weeks prior. That and Truckin are outrageously well played, but it’s the 20 minute jam that follows that just dropped my jaw. Positively other worldly excellence. Just when it can’t get any further out, it drops into the shortest Dark Star on record, out of the ashes of which a stirringly beautiful Sing Me Back Home arises. They follow this masterpiece suite with a rockin Sugar Magnolia and Johnny B Goode to close this historic 30 song epic performance. The show is available on YouTube, Archive.org, and as an official release (Dave’s Picks series). I highly recommend at least listening from He’s Gone onward. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Put on your headphones and close your eyes and float away. Magic.

Oh, cool. Another thread where Zero lectures all us simpletons about how the salary cap really works. 🙄

How will the Bills defend against the Patriots 2 new TEs?
Logic replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I want to wait to see what personnel we add before answering this question, I WILL say this: In 2019, the Bills allowed the third fewest yards to tight ends of any team in the league. Defending tight ends was a strength. Last year, clearly not so much. But with Milano and Edmunds taking turns being hurt all year, it’s not too hard to see why the drop off likely happened. Furthermore, the Bills saw an offense that made liberal use of heavy sets and 2TE formations in the playoffs: the Ravens. They held them to 3 points. With Edmunds, Milano, Hyde, Poyer, potentially a DB yet to be added, McDermott/Frazier as coaches, and a full, real offseason.....I like our chances just fine. -

Ask again after free agency and the draft. Impossible to answer this question without knowing what personnel we’ll have. -
Christian McCaffrey

I, too, expect speed to be added via the draft. Particularly at WR, RB, and CB. Here’s hoping.
-
Fair. The only thing I'll say to that is that the Bills were without Brown for quite a few games last year, and teams were still two-highing them quite a bit in some of those games. Furthermore, while Gabriel Davis doesn't have deep "speed", per se, he IS a deep threat. His 17.1 yards per reception attest to that. John Brown, by comparison, has a career 14.8 yards per reception average.
-
I stand corrected. Nevertheless, the Tweet I'm referencing infers that Wallace had no interest in leaving the Bills. His preference was always to stay here. Maybe he's just saying that to save face because other offers weren't materializing, but I don't find it too hard to believe that a guy wants to stick with a team that gave him a shot in the league and with which he has comfort and familiarity.
-
I love that Levi Wallace told his agent not to even entertain any other offers, because he wants to be a Bill, because “we are going to win a Super Bowl”. How can you not love that?! As others have said, Levi is a GREAT “worse case scenario” to have as CB2, but I bet they draft one high and give Dane Jackson a long look, too.

Cynthia Frelund teasing Bills fans with rumor tweet
Logic replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Talk about whatever you want, sure. I just think it’s cringe worthy. It necessarily objectifies female reporters, which seems unnecessary and a little gross and certainly not football related. -
Cynthia Frelund teasing Bills fans with rumor tweet

It’s a certainty that if a female reporter or media personality’s tweet or report is being discussed on TBD, the discussion will quickly turn to how *****able she is. 🙄 -
I posted this in the John Brown thread, and decided to paste it here as well: I think it was @Hapless Bills Fan that said it here first, and then I saw Erik Turner and Greg Tompsett of Cover 1 talk about it on Twitter: John Brown too easily got erased by aggressive press coverage last year. He too easily got erased from whole games, in general. Seeing now how much Brown signed for, compared to how much Sanders cost, and then keeping in mind that the Bills didn't even ask Brown to take a pay cut (according to Brown)...it just seems like the Bills view Sanders as un upgrade. In particular, as Turner pointed out: Teams started to play two-high safety zone coverage shells more and more as the year went on to force the Bills to dink and dunk their way own field. It took the offense some time to adjust, and Brown was not particularly helpful in these situations. By contrast, Sanders is more physical, a better route runner in general, and can work underneath more effectively. So while they gave up the speed and familiarity of Brown, they gained the physicality and route running of Sanders and, thus, theoretically gained the ability to more effectively operate against the two-high shells and/or to force defenses back into playing man-to-man. TL;DR: Beane and McDermott seem to feel that Sanders is simply better than Brown, or at least more effective at doing what they need from a WR2. They replaced Brown with Sanders as a means of more effectively operating in the short and intermediate game, so that when teams go to soft zones, the Bills can more effectively counter.
